Need some help in designing an encounter....

Hello all.

I am in the process of designing a horror adventure, and I have wandered into a bit of a snag. In one of the rooms that the party will go into has a male human with chains going through their body. Behind him is a large mirror. While the body is not moving, the reflection is going crazy with pain, shrieking.

Now, what I want to happen is that the mirror will shatter, (either by chance or by the party) and send shards of glass into the human male, animating him in a "crazed" sense. This also has the downside of shattering all the mirrors in the local town, doing the same to the townspeople.

I have checked most of all the books, and I cant find something to match what I want via monster. Any suggestions on how to make this encounter work or (gasp) make it better?

And by the way, glad to be a part of RDInn. Have a couple friends who have shown me here.

Thanks.

~K

First of all...

That sounds like a crazy fun encounter. But when it comes to trying to think of something all I can think of right off the top of my head is jut create your own monster! In te back of the monstermanual it gives you a ton of help in making your own thing, and if you do want to use a creature like this, then I suggest some sort of minor daemon or a variation of some fiend? iunno

welcome

First off welcome to the inn! Hope you hang around and become a regular member!

On to your question - sounds to me like a perfect candidate for the book "Heroes of Horror" from 3.5. It's one of my favorite books, and has all sorts of tips for creepy encounters not covered by the standard rules. You might even be able to find a suitable monster in there.

Also - in case you don't have any luck there, check out the "Fiend of Possession" from the Fiend Folio 3e.
