So True

It is that players never can trust that the NPC's the DM puts before them could actually be beneficial. Although, this isn't my gaming group, my group would have beheaded them.

Perfect example: We are walking down the road and hear a rustle in the bushes. Instead of investigating in any way shape or form our ranger unloads a series of arrows into the bush. When it finally stops moving we investigate. Only to discover the arrow punctured body of a young girl, and more rustlings in the distance that we later learn are caused by a group of goblins that were chasing the poor girl till we mowed her down. whoops. She was supposed to help us get to the goblin lair or something. Instead the ranger ended up picking up a coin from her and it started haunting him, along with those few points of 'Evil' that crept up... lol...

So the group in the strip is actually pretty mellow

Don't kill the cannon-fodder!!!!

Ah... the strangers from out in the cold... either we've got DM provided meatshields, DM provided backstabbers, or, mayhaps, a little of both?

Those guys just need some red shirts!

npcs?

I know that personally as a player I'm always excessively suspicious of NPCs. I never quite believe that the DM just put them in to help us out. There has to be some devilish plot behind it all - I'm always quite sure about that. That's probably because as a DM I tend to give characters guides that end up firing arrows into the party's backs. I just can't help it: being evil is an addiction !

Dragonblood NPCs

I would never want to assume an NPC is bad. Or at least that it would be good to kill them. Those might not be the same thing.

But I think I will need to keep Dragonblood's malicious NPC's in mind since he is running a game I'm in! That town is out to get me!

Hmm

I once played a game where the DM eventually betrayed me with an NPC. Of course this NPC was a horse I found on the side of the road and decided to claim as a mount.

Treacherous villian of a horse was apparently a fiend or something.

No Mr. DM I did not cast detect evil on the horse. Why? Because it was a goddamn horse.

Anywho...comic still good.
