Favorite Magic Item

Just curious to see if anyone had a favorite magic item from a character that they played?

Mine was from a 2nd edition game I played in. It was an intelligent sword named Decaphase. It was a githyanki silver sword with an attitude. It had several special abilities and such. I remember it could cast plane shift 1/week, it could speak via telepathy, it had a special purpose (destroy githzerai),unfortunately I cant remember its special purpose power (It was in 1992), but If memory serves right it was a +3 weapon.

Me and my adventuring group had to fight a pit fiend in order to retrieve the weapon. It was in one of the 7 Crypts of Cauldarius (The campaign that I spoke about in a previous post).

The only problem was that for some reason the Githyanki liked to show up at the most inopportune times to try and recover it.

But it was fun...

Re: Favorite Magic Item

For me, it was, and still is, Garlak Kol's Ring of Ultimate Wizardry. Not only a Ring of Wizardry (I, II, III, and IV), but it also had the ability to store spells for later use (channeled to a matching greataxe), and at the end of the campaign it proves itself to be more intelligent than it's owner, who (for a half-orc) is far more than he seems.

As for other powers, it's been awhile since I played that campaign, so the details are hazy, but I remember it could heal it's owner, true ressurrect on rare occasions, and convert the (magical in it's own right) greataxe into a truly horrific energy weapon (pick your poison, usually it was flames, but it could shift to ice, lightning, whatever the ring decided was best...usually all of the above, shifting between hits.)

Yay, magic items!

I had a 2e elf wizard who found a set of artifact yellow dragon hide armor (hurrah for house rules!) In addition to the armor bonus, it didn't interfere with spellcasting, made me immune to fireballs, dragon fire breath or like effects and could actually spout a fiery blast three times a day. Jeez it's been years and unfortunately my DM kept my sheets--I can't remember any other powers it had. *nods*

Another player in the same campaign ran a kender who dual wielded Wands Of Wonder. You don't know the meaning of "trepidation" until this kind of randomness pervades your game sessions.

"Where'd all the butterflies come from, and exactly HOW does this help us against the bugbear war party?"

Gauntlets of Random Movement

We are in a current 2ed game and one of the NPC's has Gauntlets of Random Movement. Each time we meet we roll a d20 to set the Gauntlets. Any time that number is rolled during that session someone plays the NPC and calls out the movement, such smacking his forhead, waving like bird wings and so on. It can be a whoot in the middle of battle to have him start doing swimming stokes. The character is a Ranger by the name Pond, James Pond and yes he is a spy.

i have two

we had a bow in a previous game, whose string was an indestructable diamond string capable of cutting anything, of course he had 7 fingers after his first usage, after that point he could basically saw off anything.

also, we found a +5 spoon of stirring, best tea any of my characters ever had.

Hmmmm....

My favorite was a set that came from a Middle Earth Role Playing module called Moria. (yes, that was an exciting place...)

The set was Dwarven Plate and Shield, both made from Mithril. Non-magical, but +4 for each piece. Gave my Dwarf a -6 AC. Talk about a tank.

Good ol' 2ed

Hands down my favorite came from 2ed. The Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity. After explaining to the party's fighter's player what a girdle was (I told him it would make his chest look bigger >.>), he put it on. Hilarity ensued. It was that moment that has led my players to question my every motive to this day.

An odd one.,..

Infinite bag of dowels.
I know, it's lame when you hear it, but I play with a very odd group. That bag became the most useful, useless and stupid thing to ever grace one of my campaigns. The Thief was a bit mental and would give dowels to everyone he med as a gift- and I mean EVERYONE. As they walked he would just hand them out randomly in the street.

Now these were just 8 inch long, finger thick wooden dowels, so it confused people. Then he started to get paranoid that whenever they encountered any antagonist like characters- he feared they were after his dowel bag and nothing else. He would sleep with the thing, and protected it like a child. He would talk to it and even gave it a name- 'Simon'. Eventually he would treat the bag like another person, introducing 'Simon' to others as though he was another character in the party.

One of the funniest moments was when the thief was sneaking around a minotaur to activate a gate and suddenly the player shouts out 'QUIET SIMON, OR THEY'LL HEAR US!!!' in character. As Dm, I burst out laughing! It was a great in character moment that cost the party a smooth get away.

Then, next session it happened... Simon became real. The Player had sown a small bag, filled it with wooden dowels, and drew the same happy face on it that the character put on the in game bag. It was awesome and stupid all at the same time!

Eventually Simon got a crush on one of the other party members (Schizophrenic thief FTW) and the thief tried to court the player with the bag of dowels. This led to a lot of sexual innuendo about 'wood' and 'long rods'.

The party got sick of the bag (in character that is- the players loved it) and took it from him one night while he was asleep. The Thief went insane and looked everywhere for it. Eventually when no bag was found he grabbed the nearest bag like objected, hugged it and started rocking in the corner crying. Everywhere the party went he would call 'Simon! Simon! Here Simon! Where are you?!?'... This included during meetings with royalty, dungeon crawls and when everyone wanted to be quiet.

Deciding to give it back, the party decided to let one member 'find' Simon and bring him back, saying he got lost or something while 'walking' around. This was so the thief would respect/love/like that character and hopefully be more manageable and listen to them.

Ah... That bag. Damn those are good memories.

Mine was from a demon campaign my friend ran. Although I don't quite remember what he called it it was a chain whip that extended to anylengths i wanted. Now granted if i had said 250ft so as to hit someone that far away i would have never hit...
