Character Class Help

Alright I want to make a dwarf character who uses twin-spiked gauntlets to fight with. Character Level 9. Have 36,000 gp for equipment. Also I dont want him to wear anything over medium-armor. I need some help with this, anyone?

fun concept

Well as Eol points out in his blog more than just stats all good level 9 characters start out with a level 1 race and class. You have the race: dwarf but what class is your guy? and what class did he start with? For a dwarf that likes being in the fray I admit to being a little cliche and liking me some dwarven fighters but for your concept a monk would work just as nicely. Perhaps you should read Eol's 'More han just stats' and make your guy along with his guy.

At a glance...

...and assuming that you're using 3e or 3.5e rules, I'd recommend a couple of levels of ranger to start... you can get the two-weapon-fighting bit for free at your second lvl of ranger... after that, it kind of depends on exactly where you wanna go with the character...

P.S. Thanks for the plug Ion.

no prob

Ranger's also a more interesting background character choice as it almost implies a more solitary character and hints at skill choices. And before anyone makes the comment but dwarves are underground and rangers protect forests let me remind them that neither assumption has to exist and as the Underdark from Forgotten Realms can most likely attest there can be forests underground. Without any pre-knowledge of the world you're playing in I would suggest have a cave ranger and instead of taking skills in wilderness lore take ranks in cave lore.

More plus stats...

What are the ability scores that you are working with?

And do you have an alignment you'd like him to play?

And what books are allowed? Core? PHB2? The Complete... Series? The Races of... Series? Tome of Battle? Any Campaign specific books?

Also...

Are you hoping to basically make an unarmed warrior... except he uses gauntlets?

I have an idea for a guy that does a lot of grappling. He'd probably be a "mage-killer" type (i.e. high saves, good movement rate, rushes in and pins down the NPC spellcaster so he can't decimate the party)

One idea

Here's one possible build...

Build: Barbarian 2 / Ranger 3 / Scout 3 / Horizon Walker 1

Build Progress: Ranger 2 / Barbarian 1 / Scout 2 / Barbarian +1 / Scout +1 / Ranger +1 / Horizon Walker 1

Alternative Class Features: Lion Totem - Pounce (from Complete Champion... replaces Fast Movement... you need this!

Feats: Weapon Finesse {1st}, Track {Bns}, Two-Weapon Fighting {Bns}, Intimidating Rage {3rd}, Extra Rage {6th}, Endurance {Bns}, Swift Hunter {9th}

Stats: DEX > CON > STR and WIS and CHA > INT.

Class Features:

Barbarian: Rage (4x/day with feat), Pounce, Uncanny Dodge (or Improved Trip or Improved Grapple if you use Alt Class Features from Unearthed Arcane)

Ranger: Favoured Enemy (2 with Swift Hunter feat), Track, Wild Empathy, Two-Weapon Fighting, Endurance

Scout: Trapfinding, Uncanny Dodge, Battle Fortitude +1, Fast Movement 10', Skirmish [+2d6 dmg / +1 AC with Swift Hunter feat], Trackless Step

Horizon Walker: Choose "Desert"... this gives you immunity to fatigue, which allows you to negate the "after-Rage" penalties.

This gives you a wild woodsman (or mountain-man). The skills between the classes blend nicely and it should be half decent to play.

Your main combat tactic is charge and then full attack. Your dex is high so you should be one of the first to move. Move at least 10' to get the charge bonus to attack plus the skirmish bonus to damage.

Anyway... there's one idea.
