Yeah...

...that's because it was laid out in those lengthy back-history posts and PMs for the most part, I think. There was talk about Sam owning a share but, given his twitchy nature (not wanting to put his 'name' to anything official), and the whole cortex specter thing, it was decided that 20 credits a month plus room and board was the deal. Anything else that might've constituted 'Sam's cut' of any jobs (if there was any) went back to Wyatt as a "thank you" and to keep Roc flying.

Darn it.

Stupid iPod delete my post instead of editing it.

For reference I was saying that the book list 200/Month but saying that was ridiculous due to 1) it being a tramp ship and 2) bed and board being included.

I agree with you Al. How is the captian meant to make any money paying his crew 200/month?

Business is business

Seven crewmen eats into a captain's profit margin!

Ok, so Willow has 2 shares. To make this easy I'm going to think of all income as a whole, and divide things into 10 shares. These shares would then be split amongst all who contribute to the job. So in the case of this recent job, Wyatt would have paid everyone out as soon as he got the coin. The shares would have looked something like this (please correct me if I'm wrong):

Asher 1 share
Sam 1 share
Willow 1 share
Wolf 1 share
Wyatt (which basically means Trish and the ship too) 6 shares.

So that means that each member of the crew receives 300 credits, and that leaves 1800 credits to refit the ship, take on supplies, etc. I'll look into ship advancements and see if there's anything that I'd like to see done to Roc, otherwise, aside from restocking and such, the money would be going towards the relief fund...relief from dry spells.

Nice that you included Andrew

Mr. Bowman has a full time paying gig now, with invites to ladies socials and all the pie he can handle so he politely declines the offer for a share. After a few days on your crew, he figures you'll need it in bandages and operating tools.

I thought that Willow bought a double share of the ship as she was the only one that didn't have to buy weapons and armour so she had a lot of cash left over. however I looked over the character sheet and she has one share written in, so I am mistaken. So it is 1's across the board.

So...

To clarify the point thing: We each get six points to utilize in our advancement, right? According to the book you can use advancement points to advance one skill, or one attribute by one die type, or purchase a new one at a d2 level. Are we foregoing this rule?

Second point to clarify: If I have a d6 in a particular skill and I want to advance to a d8, the way I read the rules in the book I'd need a total of 8 APs to do so. However, in the post where you gifted us with the points, you indicated that in order to advance from a d6 to a d8 you'd only need 2 AP. Am I misunderstanding the rules? Or are you adjusting them for this game?

Another question: I just spent all of my Plot Points...do we get any for finishing the gig?

And another: You made mention that two new ballistic shirts are needed. I'm under the impression that personal armor was purchased by the character out of their funds. Did we decide differently?

Yet another: Do we need to replenish ammo? Food? Med supplies?

And more: If I wanted to increase Roc's Alertness to a d6 from its current d4 how much would that cost in credits, drydock time, and AP? Same for increasing Roc's Intelligence from a d2 to a d4, and her Willpower from a d2 to a d4?

Improving the ship

Improving Roc's sensors (alertness) and/or on-board computers (intelligence) might be a decent way for John to come in, introducing him as a Techie rather then as a potential pilot... what do you guys think?

EDIT: I think there are also guide rules either in the main book or Six Shooters and Spaceships.
Sourced from the main book.

Port Fees Page 104 Docking for up to one week, administrative costs, power hookup, septic flush, and fresh water fill costs 1 credit per 100 tons of ship. Each week thereafter is 0.5 credits per hundred tons.
(So I guess the Rocinante's port fees could be around 25 for the first week and 13 for each week thereafter, dependent on the port and not accounting for any additional "fees" the port authorities may wish to levy.)

Improving Attributes Page 114 Making permanent improvements to a ship’s Attributes, Traits, or Skills is not as simple as doing the same for a character. Upgrades require replacement parts, new hardware, shipyard time, and extensive reintegration. In game terms, calculate the difference between the ship’s original (not purchase) price and what her new price would be, based on increasing Complexity. That is the cost for the upgrade, in addition to any Progression Points required. The ship will be in dry dock for one week for every 10,000 credits of the upgrade.
Example: Upgrading Hotaru’s avionics suite and thereby increasing Alertness from d2 to d8 will bring her Attribute point total up to 30, raise her Complexity from Very Low to Low (cost factor 0.6), and increase her original purchase price to 72,000 credits. This is an additional 24,000 credits for the upgrade, which will require two and a half weeks at a shipyard to install (assuming things go smooth).

Dry Dock Page 104 Repairs and maintenance can be contracted from local shipyards (if available). This costs double what similar work would cost for parts and materials alone, and may involve substantial delay if there’s a lot of work already scheduled. But it is much faster than do-it-yourself. The cost is one week per 100,000 credits, rounded up.

So I'm guessing that upgrading Rocinante may be a bit out of reach for the time being. (Grows a mustache and begins planning how to rob a core-world hospital)

EDIT: Reading the rest of page 104 it also gives a guide for fuel costs (5 credits per ton) and suggests that spacehands earn between 10 and 20 credits a month so I've no idea why it suggests 200 credits a month per crew member earlier in the book, must be a typo.

Shares

Willow indeed did not have to buy weapons and such, so she bought a share of the ship (time to stop running away from her troubles) AND she spent her remainder on the medical bay.

We can debate whether that's worth an extra share or not the next time you have holes that need patchin'

okay

Sorry if I don't always expalin my thought processes. I often assume everyone knows what I am thinking..

Advancement Points

Yes I am using a different system than the book just as I do for plot points. You have 6 points. You can put them to skills at 2 point for every step up. Remember that in Cortex, the general skill goes to d6 and then you special after that. So if you ar d6 guns and d8 rifles and wanted to go to d10, you put two points in and you got it. The most you can go up in a single advancement is one step unless I say otherwise. You may increase an attribute if you so desire but I need a reason for the attribute to go up. IE: I am working out more so I want to increase my strength.

If you are d6 and want to advance in a skill to d8 it costs two points but if it is a skill you have not used in the campaign, then I need a story.

Plot Points

You start all new campaigns with six points. You gain points by palying your complications to the benefit of the game. Also if you make me laugh, cry or scream "kiss her you dip!" at the screen, you will get more plot points.

Guns and Ammo

I believe that everyone is responsible for their own guns, ammo, and armor moneywise. The comment I made in a post about needing new ones was a throw away joke only. Now if you wish to have a "Ship Gun Locker" for anyone to use, then you'd have to have to put that on expenses.

Rocinante at the moment of leaving Regina

The ship has skipped it's last two regular maintenances, plus you are running on a stripped Aft Alternator and a rigged Grav Dampner. The Hover Mule could use a good overhaul, or at least have the brake line redone properly. Fuel wise, you are full to the brimm and that is good for 600 hours of travel. You don't need to replenish Med as the Doctor covered you and wouldn't take payment, although he did take a kiss from Willow. Food - alway an issue with Wolf and Ash on board. Dry Pasta - voice of experience here. I believe I posted your possible future expenses in a post before this one.

Making a better Rocinante

I will have to read up on that, thanks to Loki for the research on the topic but I may want to tweak the rules a bit on that as I often do. Give me a day or two to get back to you.

Did I answer all the questions?

Yep so here's a pair of new ones :)

Ok I'm unclear on what is meant by a share. A share of the ownership of the ship or a share of the profits from jobs we make after expenses.

Also in terms of cash amounts whats the % of each share when that is spilt up.

Shares...

Buying into the ship would take a bit more $$$ than what was made individually on this job, I think, so I'm making an educated guess that, in this case, a "share" means a cut of the profits from the job, Tann. So, given the way it looks as if Wyatt's divied things up, that works out to about 10% for each of the crew who were granted 1 share... (10% of 3000 is, of course, 300 credits)...

Now, I could be wrong or my math could be a mite fuzzy buuuuut I think that's the way the thought processes went.

Edit: Oops... didn't see that Brom had already edited this bit into his post above... apologies from the Department of Redundancy Department.

share the share

At the start of the game, the players who had left over cash for equipment chipped in to buy additional armour for the Roc, the operating theatre and the Hovermule. That was considered to buyng a share.

Now Bromern has divided the money up and considered Wolf as owning a share. Knowing Wyatt he feels that you almost gave your life for the crew and ship, so Wolf deserve a full share.

When the Captain hires on the new Pilot and tech guy, then he can decide how they will be paid or use the one share per person method which is simple and straight forward.

I will be on vacation next week so if you are looking to spend that 300 credits on something nice, then let me know. I will be posting off and on during the week to get the next game set up. So let us say that all changes to characters, new equip and new characters be in by August 10th. After that, you are stuck with what you have.

Al is correct, sir!

I plan on keeping the shares simple. Wyatt is a simple, straight-forward kind of guy, so he isn't going to prefer complicating anything as mundane, and volatile, as financials.

Debate with Willow? Wyatt would rather face Pearson wearing nothing but his long johns and with only a fork as a weapon.

I did some math estimation and we don't have close to enough money to perform the upgrades I was looking at. However, I'd completely forgotten about the maintenances we skipped, and the parts that we're in need of replacing. How much for the parts? Maintenance is in the book if I remember correctly.

Wyatt's advancements...

Athletics from d6 to d8
Influence from a d6 to d8
Perception from a d6 to a d8.

Oh, and we'll spend the 400 to replace the parts, and the coin for maintenance as well.

I'll also buy a Databook (30c), 2 cutting torches, 10 "Sticky" Scrapper's Gel; Basic Toolkit, Electronics Toolset, and Mechanic's Toolset.

This leaves me with 493.6c if prices are standard in the book.
