I thought

According to Roger you could not upgrade a general skill like Athletics from d6 to d8. However instead you had to pick a specialazation like you did with Dodge??

clarify

General skills go to d6. Then you specialize.

Here is a list of General skills and possible Specializations. If you have a specialty you want but don't see here, let me know.

Skills
General - Even if you have never done anything in these skills, you have a chance based on attribute alone in these skills. So a novice can shoot a gun, or come up with obscure knowledge.

With specialization, if there is a category you can think of, but don’t see – bring it up. This is hardly the exhaustive list. Some cross over several skill sets, so don’t specialize twice.

Animal Handling – You like animals, or you know how to talk to them.
• Specializations: Training, riding, zoology, veterinary, specific animal
Artistry – you have some artistic talents
• Specializations: Appraisal, cooking, forgery, game design, painting, photography, poetry, sculpting, writing.
Athletics – You are good at moving and using athletic skills
• Specializations: Climbing, contortion, dodge, juggling, jumping, running, swimming, any sport
Covert – The subtle arts of the sneaky sneak.
• Specialization: Camouflage, disable devices, forgery, infiltration, disguise, hide in shadows, streetwise, open locks
Craft – You can create things out of other things.
• Specialization: Architecture, blacksmithing, gun repair, leatherworking, cooking, pottery, origami, metalworking
Discipline – You have had some sort of training, usually military.
• Specialization: Concentration, interrogation, intimidation, leadership, mental resistance, morale
Guns – Any dip can squeeze a trigger – this is about aiming and knowing how to hold the gun
• Specialization: Assault rifles, energy throwers, grenade launchers, machine guns, pistols, rifles, shotguns
Heavy Weapons – The big guns that are used to take a ship out of the sky.
• Specialization: Artillery, catapults, demolitions, forward observer, mounted guns, rocket launchers, cannons
Influence – Sometimes words are better than guns and glances.
• Specialization: Administration, barter, bureaucracy, conversation, counseling, marketing, seduction, streetwise
Knowledge – Knowing stuff and more stuff.
• Specialization: Culture, selling goods, appraisal, philosophy, earth that was, sports, religion, local customs
Melee Combat Weapons – Weapons held in the hand that don’t shot nuthin’
• Specialization: Clubs, numchaku, swords, knives, dagger
Perception – Picking up on the subtle clues in your surrounding
• Specialization: Deduction, empathy, gambling, hearing, intuition, reading lips, search, sight, smell, taste, tracking
Performance - You got a song in the heart or a desire to act out.
• Specialization: Acting, dancing, costuming, keyboard, guitar, wind instruments, singing
Planetary Vehicles – You have the ability to drive, steer and operate land based vehicles
• Specialization: cars, canoes, sailboats, hovercraft, ground vehicle repair, military combat vehicles, submarines, yachts
Ranged Weapons – Any weapon thrown or shot that isn’t a gun
• Specializations: Blowguns, Bows, crossbows, darts, grenades, javelins, knives, slings
Survival –Buck naked on a rock – things ain’t so bad.
• Specialization – water, land, desert, nature, space survival, specific environment, making fire, hunting
Unarmed Combat – You fight with fist and feet
• Specialization: Boxing, brawling, judo, karate, kung fu, wrestling, street fighting

Skilled Only – you must have points here to try these at home.

Linguist – You know languages well
• Specialization – Arabic, Armenian, French, German, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, etc
Mechanical Engineering – You know machines and how to fix them
• Specialization: Invention, machinery maintenance, mechanical repairs, plumbing, security systems, identify problems, rewire and reroute electrical.
Medical Expertise – You have studied medicine either in school or on a battlefield
• Specialization: Dentistry, forensics, general practice, genetics, neurology, pharmaceuticals, surgery, toxicology, prosthetics
Pilot –If it flies, you can drive
• Specialization: Navigation, astrogation, astrophysics, gunships, transports, helicopters, patrol vessels, ultra light, covert stealth ship
Scientific Expertise – Plenty of schooling or self taught, you the nerd, man!
• Specializations: Earth Science, Terra-forming, Historical sciences, life sciences, mathematical theory
Technical Engineering – If it has a computer, you can work with it.
• Specialization: Communications, computer programming, hacking, security devices, technical repair, create/alter technical devices

Did I designed this ship?

I just looked over Rocinante and a lot of the numbers are not jiving.

Not it!

Though I am pretty handy with a few image editing programs (see: Destiny ^_^ ), so if you'd like me to make a few changes on our behalf, I'd be happy to.

Actually

I think it may be the rules that have the problem or I am missing something cause when I do up the ship it is very high complexity and costs over 100K, which does not match up to the firefly or even serenity in the book.

Of course I could be too tired for math.

Ah ha!!!

Sample ships in the book were done with a earlier version of the rules and were not undated before printing. I found a Serenity RPG ERRATA. Okay, now I see why it doesn't make sense.

So Rocinante is correct as listed.

Ok not to be pushy LOL

But do we have a final count of what each of us gets in the way of money after all the needed repairs and ship priorities??

I want to buy a few things but need to know how much cash I have to do so with before Roger's deadline.

300

This post is hardly worthy, but I've resisted the temptation for too long.

THIS IS SPARTA!

Anyway... looking forward to getting on and joining the game. Can't wait to learn what dastardly design you have devised for us Alacrity.

Image

What I would love to have is a picture of the crew like I had before but with the new folk in as well.

Now that would be cool. Do you know who did the original image?

I did...

I'll have to see if I can come up with something. Time is the challenge, but I've been thinking the same thing. I really want to.

Oh, and in case this was missed because of the way I edited the post instead of posting anew:

Wyatt's advancements and additional purchases:

  • Leadership from d8 to d10
  • Pistols from a d10 to d12
  • Perception > Intuition picked up at a d2.

Oh, and we'll spend the 400c to replace the parts, and the coin for maintenance (412c) as well.

I'll also buy a Databook, 2 cutting torches, 10 "Sticky" Scrapper's Gel; Basic Toolkit, Electronics Toolset, and Mechanic's Toolset.

This leaves me with 493.6c if prices are standard in the book.

Oh Great........

Well if Ash gets 300 credits for one share then he has to spend 206 to just replace the guns and ammo that Sam barrowed.
1 x PK12 Peacekeeper Pistols (60c)
8 x Magazines of Ammo (96 bullets/ 4c)
5 x Boxes of Ammo (240 bullets/ 10c)

1 x Colt .22 ST Pistol (20c)
3 x Magazines of Ammo (24 bullets/ 1c)
1 x Box of Ammo (48 bullets/ 2c)

1 x Justice Arms JC39 Assault Rifle & Shotgun (75c)
3 x Magazines of Rifle Ammo (150 bullets/ 6c)
3 x Cases of Rifle Ammo (300 bullets/ 12c)

Then 12c for a box of flashbangs and 12c for a box of smoke
bombs he took too.

1 x Boxes of Flashbang Grenades (12 grenades/ 12c)
1 x Boxes of Smoke Grenades (12 grenades/ 12c)

Now take 45 for mesh vest he got 25 left to go crazy with. WOWZIE!

So bank the 25, I'll wait for anything else. Maybe the next payday will go better.

My list is simple

2 Quick Draw shoulder holsters.
3 laser sights.
Buy a cut down modified auto action shotgun with a front action pistol grip, folding metal wire stock and a larger magazine capacity. (10 shell magazine)
Easy wear flap holster sized to fit the shotgun carried on back
New balistic vest.

And just so you don't have to look for it my skill changes once more.

Skills:
Athletics d6
*Dodge d8 (+2)
*Weight-Lifting d8
Mechanical Engineering d6
*Maintenance d10
*Repair d10 (upgraded to d12 +2)
*Rewire and Reroute Electrical d8 (+2)
Planetary Vehicles d6
*Ground Vehicle Repair d8 (+2)
Guns d6
*Pistol d10 (upgraded to d12 +2)
Melee Weapon Combat d6
*Knives d8 (upgraded to d10 +2)
Unarmed Combat d6
*Brawling d10
*Martial Arts d8 (+2)
(Note not sure how the rules go again in determining this, but I would think that both unarmed Combat specializations would over lap as they do in Mixed Martial Arts)

Asset (+2)
Mechanical Empathy (minor) – Having finally accepted the Rocinante as home he is more intune with her, feels her in a better way, and loves her as more then just a ship.

Complications (To be added to existing ones)
Loyal (minor)- After the events on Regina and the way Asher and Wyatt treated him and rushed to get him help, having never had those type of friends other then Sam. He is now 100% loyal to them, the rest of the crew, and the ship herself which he now considers home.
Straight Shooter (minor)- Due to the Chip on his Shoulder and never having learned how to hide his emotions very well, he is easy to read because of said emotions. As such he is a bad liar and can be very blunt at times. Holds to the belief that he would rather hurt a person with the truth, then with a lie.

I'll put this out there...

If Roc get's boarded by Alliance and the crew get's in trouble for the arsenal being packed around, Wyatt'll toss a couple of people out the airlock.
