The doors are 50 feet high so the room is plenty high enough for the party to wait on the stairs while Ulthok runs the cloud kill for several rounds. The gas will stay down at ground level and flow into the den and rooms through the openings in the rotten doors.
If things get dicey then we can start the bar-b-que. But if Ulthok can clear the floor we can more safely check the rooms before we advance to the next level. There may be stuff in there we can use. What do you say? Are you game to try the poison gas first?
After Ulthok casts Cloud Kill he will pull out his wand of light to help the others to see. He can use his infravision to see enough for the spell casting.

... flame or gas... either or... why not a little of both... use a wall of flame to set up a wall inbetween us and the stairs to give us time to get to it... and then cast the cloudkill beyond the wall of flame atop the bugs...
+2 Battle Axe of Demon's Fire SM/Med: 1d8+6 LG: 1d8+6 (when used in combat vs. undead or the like on a successful hit of 16-20 will cause said creature to burst into flames taking an additional 1D10 points of damage each round and cannot cast spells or use any special abilities such as drain life. The flames cannot be put out by normal means only magical, even holy water has no effect.)
Picture a Triangle the den is to the left/West side of the main doors on the pointed end and your in the southeastern corner of the base. Between you and the Den is roughly 80% of the distence of the 150x100 span.
So if your gonna use Wall of Fire, Cloudkill, or some other type of area effect spell go for it as there is enough space to do so.
