Questions

Lyonna chuckled lihglty after Sev's suprise, then squinted at the man inside. "Aren't you one of my men?" She blinked.
---
"I can't keep talking!" Seira growled. The adrenline was already wearing off, letting her feel just how intense the pain was.

"Wh-who are you guys?" She shut her eyes, trying to focus, "I'm Seira, the Captain's daughter. I-is my mom alright?"

Cries in the dark

I don't think that was the voice we heard earlier. But perhaps there is another survivor.
Lance moved quickly down the passage to the right to what he was sure was what remained of the engineering levels. Even if his ears were playing tricks on him he might be able to find something he could use to hot wire the environmental controls back at what seemed to have become their base camp.

As he approached he heard something shift. A slight scraping of metal on metal. Instantly he crouched down. He may not have been trained in the elite security corp, but he had his own manner of training, and he was not as naive as most people thought.

He rounded the next corner as quietly as possible and saw a person (or so he thought) rummaging through some scrap metal and other twisted and broken components. He, Lance supposed though he couldn't see the person's face, was clad in heavy furs and wearing a large jacket with its hood laying back over his shoulders. The door to the engineering compartments was just beyond him.

This may be a good time to brush the dust off of my fighting skills, though I guess I should try to talk to him first. He may be no threat at all.
"Greetings stranger." Lance said as he stepped out from the corner.

Instantly the man turned, and it was no man at all. A humanoid creature with the face similar to a jungle cat, but longer and more wrinkled turned toward him suddenly, dropping the piece of scrap he held in his hands. As the creature's hand dropped to his side Lance dove back around the corner, barely avoiding a particle blast that cut right through the interior wall, almost taking Lance's leg with it.

Okay, so not friendly after all. I don't stand a chance without a weapon, unless I can get in close.
He looked around, trying to find a solution before the next particle beam pierced his cover. His mind worked quickly as it always did and he noticed the cluster of coolant pipes above him. Hopefully the crash hadn't damaged the supports too much and the catwalk above would still support his weight.

Quickly he leaped up, kicking off the wall and grabbing the floor of the catwalk. By the time the strange, cat-thing cautiously came around the corner, he was laying on the catwalk above, trying hard to slow his breathing and remain unheard...

lots going on...

Quintin heard the girl cry out "I can't keep talking!"
She sounded like she was in pain. She kept talking a bit anyway. "Wh-who are you guys?" There was a pause and then "I'm Seira, the Captain's daughter. I-is my mom alright?"
the captain's daughter? She wasn't suppose to be on the ship.
Quintin had to talk to her to find her. He was closing in on her voice but it wasn't easy. "Ok Seira. I'm Quintin one of the security personnel. We are looking for survivors and supplies." He wasn't sure how to address the question of her mother right now. He couldn't tell her she was dead. Not yet at least. "It sounds like you are in pain and I can imagine it is hard to talk. If you can move your hands perhaps you could bang on something nearby so I can find you.. I'll keep talking to you. If it sounds like I've passed you tell me to stop."

When he was done he waited for a response, but it wasn't what he expected. Behind him down the corridor that Shadow had taken he heard commotion. It may be possible that there was danger. Shadow can take care of himself. If he needs me he'll yell. Besides I have to save this girl and soon
Quintin continued talking to Seira, making his way through the wreckage toward her.

More puzzle pieces

Seira tried moving her hands, it ached to do so, but she grabbed a nearby piece of metal and slammed it as hard as she could into the ground.

"I-I'm pinned, my back's not broken because I can feel my legs, but I think something is broken... You, you siad you were security, do you know my godmother? Her name's Lyonna, I think she's high up. I c-can't remember..."

Seira shut her eyes and gritted her teeth, slamming the metal down again, her head aching with the echo it gave off.

of course

Quintin heard the sound of metal striking metal ahead of him. good she can move
"Seira, I'm glad you are still trying to talk to me. It lets me know you are still ok. I'm an EMT as well as security so when I get to you I'll check you out before I move you."

Hearing that Seira was pinned and possibly had something broken troubled him. He knew there was a risk for her going into shock and right now he didn't have the equipment to deal with that. As he moved through the corridor he realized he was getting closer to her. He also realized that he was getting close to his own room. Perhaps if he needed it, he hoped he could find some of his equipment still in there.

"I do know Lyonna, she happens to be my boss. She is quite high up. The head of Security in fact." The metal rang out again, much closer this time. "I'm getting closer to you. It's not easy getting through here, but I should be with you soon."

More Trouble

She nodded with what he said, beginning to feel a bit numb and un-connected. His voice seemed to get further away; even her pain became subdued. Suddenly, her eyelids felt heavy and she just wanted to sleep.

The metal fell out of her hand, making a sharp clang as it hit the ground, and her head followed suit.

Within seconds, Seira had blacked out.

out of nowhere

Quintin made his way through a particularly rough area of wires and twisted metal as he was talking to Seira. He could feel he was getting closer to her. wish I had a rescue dog with me right now. Would make this a lot easier. With the thoughts of getting to the captain's daughter at the forefront of his mind he totally missed the fact that he had just passed by his room.

He was more focused on the loud clang and the piece of metal now laying just a few feet in front of him. "Seira, is that you?"

Quintin moved slowly toward the entangled mass in front of him. As he approached he saw the girl in the middle of it. He was thankful that he had found her. Unfortunately, she appeared unconcious and stuck beneath an entry door. It wasn't going to be easy getting her out. He examined the situation a bit more closely. He couldn't move the door even with some help. He would need hydraulics for that. Seira's injuries seemed mostly superficial, but it also seemed like her hip or her leg may have been broken when she was pinned. He couldn't tell for sure until he had her out of there.

He started working to move some of the debris so he could more easily reach her. As he did so he uncovered a placard on the wall and realized how close he was to his room. ok I have to check my room for my gear. Most important things to look for, my cutting torch, my med kit, and my sword.
Quintin grabbed Seira's hand and hoped she could hear him as he spoke. "Seira, I found you. I'm going to get you out of here, but I have to check my room for some equipment. I won't be long, hang in until I get back."

Turning around he backtracked down the corridor until he found the door to his room. Luckily it wasn't completely shut and he could squeeze his way in. He just hoped he could find what he needed.

A Shadow gets his name

The design engineer was more than what he seemed. He was called Shadow for a reason. He lay silently on the pipes above as his shipmate directed a blast of steam at the creatures face. She ran, trying to escape while the thing was distracted, but it was going after he... right beneath him.

The creature raised its weapon up to fire, more than likely a killing shot with the power he had seen come from that gun. He had to do something or she was going to die. There had been enough death on his hands, though he would be damned if he showed that he felt this tragedy was his fault. Then the creature stopped... sniffing at the air as if it knew something was amis.

He grabbed the side rail of the catwalk's floor and swung over the side, using all of his momentum to slam both feet into the cat's side. The weapon's blast went wide, blowing yet another hole in the hull of the ship. The creature was knocked against the wall by the force of the blow, but it quickly shook off the effects ad came at Shadow with claws to rival the velociraptors in the museum he had once seen.

With as much luck as skill he managed to duck and weave around the sharp claws, but he could not find an opening to get a strike in. Occassionally he would lash out with a lightning fast kick are elbow strike, learned from his earlier days, but the reflexes of the cat were faster and he couldn't land a blow. Luckily, it seemed that he had dropped his blaster when Shadow had kicked him, but he couldn't dodge forever.

"Rossettia, could I get a hand with this thing!?!" he yelled out as he dropped to the floor, avoiding the creature's lunge by a hair's breadth. "And be careful, it's incredibly fast!"

He rolled back to his feet yet again avoiding the slashing claws of the beast they had found.

"Rossettia! I need your help now!"

Bad News

Seira was faintly aware of him in the back of her head, but showed no visible response. Cold was slowly crawling up her spine, and she could already feel a prickling at the base of her skull, making her htink only one thing.

Hypothermia's setting in.

surprise surprise

Once Quintin was in his room he immediately went for his bed. He had to move some debris out of the way of the matress and then lifted it. There sat both his swords. the one was a simple katana and not very important. The other was an ornate katana. The scabbard was intricately carved and matched perfectly with the pommel. It had been in his family for ages. He carefully placed both swords on his left hip.

Then he continued searching his room. Things were scattered everywhere. His storage locker was turned over on it's side and the lock was broken. He opened the doors and started rummaging through looking for his cutting torch. It was a mess guns had fallen off their shelves, shelves had broken loose, ammo and powerpacks were strewn about. Right when he got his hand on the cutting torch something made its way into his room. He went to back out of the closet to see who or what it was, and bumped his head on the door "Damn". As he turned around he heard a female voice. "You don't by chance have a blaster on you by any chance do yo..."
Quintin could hear something moving around in the passageway. He knew Shadow was out there but it sounded too large. "Yeah I got lots of weapons", he turns around and looks in the locker for some weapons not bio coded to his DNA. He finds a blaster and a pistol. He quickly checks them and hands them over. "I've got more but only I can use them. The captain's daughter is further down the passageway. I need to help her."

Quintin grabs the cutting torch and hooks it to his utility belt. He then reaches into the locker and grabs a laser rifle and an extra core pack. "What is out there anyway?"

Lance

Shadow catches snatches the gun out of the air, and takes aim for a moment before pulling the trigger, letting lose another blost from the weapon. The creature continues fighting for a few moments before its brain registers the large hole in its chest. Then it slumps down dead. Only then did he realize that he had almost hit his ship mate in the process...

"Sorry about that. What took you so long? I'm an engineer not a warrior for pete sake!"

He walks past Rossettia, handing her the gun in the process.

"So what have we found then?"

Lance

The engineer moves back to the other security guy.

"I see you found another survivor. How is she?"

He looks around a bit, searching for power or heat sources. Finding none he returns his attention to their wounded comrade.

"I can try to help you get this chunk of metal off of her. But I'll still need to head back to engineering in order to find the parts I need. I think I saw something that cat creature discarded that might be of some use."

saving the girl

"I'm glad the two of you showed up. Even with my equipment it would have been hard to do this alone."

Quintin started walking back toward where Seira was pinned. "She is the captain's daughter. Name is Seira. Not really sure how she got here. Most of her wounds seem fairly minor. She has a few broken bones but nothing that couldn't be set by the doc. She passed out just beore I got to her. I'm guessing the pain got to her. I figure it will be easier to revive her after we get her out."

Quintin started showing Lance the door which was pinning the girl. He started pointing to a few points on the door and motioning in specific direction. "I'm thinking about cutting here , across here. From this point to here. One final cut here up to this point. I think that should break it up enought to move and get her out. You see any better way to do it?"

Quintin knew they had to get her out and finish their original task. "Once we have her out of there I can stabilize her and revive her. Rosettia or myself can stay with her and the other can acoompany you to engineering. I think we should be getting back to the others soon."

Lance

"You're right. I don't want to leave them without heat for too much longer."

The engineer examines the door quickly, analyzing the cuts his crew mate suggested.

"When you cut, take extreme care. We don't want to further injure her. In fact, what fuel source does your cutting tool use? I might be able to better utilize that."

He looks once again at the door, and is suddenly struck by inspiration.

"This is one of the crew doors. That means it isn't solidly built. The doors to the crew chambers were constructed to muffle sound and provide minimal security, not to protect those inside from explosions and the like. That means the interior is hollow, and likely filled with a synthetic protein that absorbs sound and vibration. If we can get a whole cut in the base of the door, we should be able to drain out the majority of that protein. That means it was more likely the impact that injured her and drained her strength rather than the continued crushing of the door (though the door would still likely be rather heavy). If we can find a container we can even keep it for use in insulating our own quarters back with the others."

He rushes back into the nearest room, looking for a sealable jar or something. After a moment he calls back.

"Take care when cutting though. The protein will flow, but it is thick and heavy. It may douse your torch in short order once you penetrate the skin of the door."
