Unwanted Characters

hi, i just started a Pathfinder game with a few of my friends (4 of them) and one of my friends younger brother. My mom is forcing me to let my little brother join becuase of my friends younger brother, she is saying either my brother plays, or no one plays. a couple of my friends have no problem with letting him join, but a couple want nothing to do with my brother, what should i do?
Thank you
SIgned Jon Snow, Lord Commander of the Wall

?

Do you really have a choice? Let the little dude play. He might turn out to be a great roleplayer

Well...

...if you're playing in Mom's house, I'm afraid I've gotta back Mom up on this one... Let the lil bro play... keep Mom happy and, in so doing, keep mom's house as a place to play in the future.

Heck, who knows, maybe little brother will play for a while, get terribly bored, and decide he's out before you do... On the other hand, maybe little brother will turn out to be a better player than you or your friends expect (wouldn't that be cool?) and, in retrospect, all of this concern will turn out to have been for nothing. And, you know, even if he doesn't turn out to be the best gamer in the world, it's still an opportunity to take the kid under your wing and help him to learn right?

Honestly, I'd be a little more concerned about your "friends" who are so quick to protest the very thought of your bro playing as I would be your brother. Friendships are often fleeting, you know... Family's forever.

Moved this to the Common Room, btw... Q&A threads are for discussions related to games that are running on the forum... General discussion questions are usually posted in the Common Room.

Aaaaaand... Welcome to the Inn, huh?

Thanks, for the help, but..........

Thanks for the help, im leaning towards just telling my friends to cool off and let him plsy, but i did that with 4e and my brother quit before the first dungeon was finished, and i dont want him to do the same again. I know pathfinder and 4e are different and that perhaps he will like it but it's a big risk......
thank you,
Signed Jon Snow, Lord Commander of the Wall

meh

Just one of those things. If he quits, your dilemma is solved - don't have the story rely on him. If he stays and does well... yay, bonus points for you.

From experience...

I know where your coming from. My lil bro is a little over 3 years younger then me and he used to worm his into my games back in the day. While I certainly wouldn't take it easy on him I also didn't allow anyone but me to pick on him. The way I handled him was to try to keep him interested and cater to him but at the same time minimize the risks involve should he get bored or quit. I did this by making sure his character was never key to the story or the party. So long as you ensure that the rest of the party can function without him then if he does quit you can simply kill off his character. Play tested and approved by me!

P.S. Ten years later I still talk to my brother a couple times a week but I only occassionally talk to one of my friends from high school. I think I made the right call there and I wish you luck in your own decision. Good luck and best wishes bud!

O.K.

I'm the little bro in my family and I agree. Sure sometimes I don't wanna play with my bro and he acts like a little brother sometimes, but the reason why I laugh when hit by him is because either it's a break from playing with him, or he's just having fun too. Now, lets see, when he gets older they're 2 sites he can go too. A site with an rpg game/rpg maker or this site. Your choice.
But only if he's good! You don't want a messed up game with no one coming in to play and to be embarresed by your brother. Lets see what lies in the future. Let the kid play.
