patching up...

Brutal stepped back when Corban came to Doc’s assistance… he seemed to know more about the situation… Brutal took watch over them … his Schmessier now with a fresh magazine… when asked to thread a needle he attempted it but after missing a couple times… he was glad to hand it off to someone else more capable….

He just went back to lookout… he kept an eye on the doorway through which the gargoyles … or whatever they were… had come… he knew there were probably much more dangerous things to come… he was concerned that their ammunition supply was slowly being diminished … if they ran out in there… heaven help them.

What's next... Mutant Smurff's??

The Thompson at his shoulder, Sergeant Troy Romo slowly moved backwards towards the entry tunnel pooping off shots coolly and calmly. As the Gargoyles slowly ‘died’ he kept watching for more enemies to appear. After a few moments of no more Gargoyle attacks he lowered the SMG to take stock of the squad and the Lady Greta.

Of all of them only Reid was hurt, and he the damn medic! As Clements moved to help him, Romo knelt facing the entry hall, removed the Thompson’s half used clip, replacing it with a full 30 round one. As Clements was replaced by McGuinness then the lady Greta, Romo took this time to withdraw the 50 round drum from his pack, open it and start transferring rounds from it to his 1 empty clip, then the half used clip. After he had finished reloading both clips he took the last rounds from the drum, placed them in his BDU pocket and discarded the now empty drum.

Having used the Thompson for most of the war he knew how unreliable the drum mags were and was glad to have 5 full clips once more. Checking to make sure his one frag grenade was still secure and everything gained was in one piece he stood and moved to stand just to the left of Greta and the sniper.

“How is he ma’am, will he live?”
(Assuming a sarcastic type answer from the Doc )
A smile on his face Romo next moved to stand by the Captain.

“Your orders, sir?”

"Are You A Turtle?"

Romo moved to stand just to the left of Greta and the sniper. Looking over at the medic the sergeant chided, “How is he ma’am, will he live?”

Jack gritted his teeth as he eased his uniform back into place. Between Greta and Corbin they had done a pretty fair job of closing and dressing the gashes the gargoyle had left in his shoulder.

“You bet your sweet a**, I’ll live”, Doc shot back. “This lady has more important things to do than to tend to this sorry crew.” Popping down a hand full of aspirins with a slug of water, Jack looked at Romo’s side to see if there might be a sign of his wound still bleeding. “You taking care of that bandage job of your own? Maybe you should step over here for me check you out. Besides you’re due for some more aspirins yourself.” Doc tossed Troy the card with the remaining eight tablets; “Takes these and call me when the war is over.”

Lite 'em if you got 'em...

Brutal smirked and spared a glance at Doc… he reached in his shirt pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes… shook one out and popped it in his mouth… he pulled out a match… struck in on a pant leg and lit it up…

“Well… count yourself lucky Doc…” he said as he turned back to keeping an eye out for more ‘things’… “you didn’t patch yourself up… so you just might make it.”

getting back inside

His plan had seemed to work. The stone creatures were much less of a menace once they were forced to fly in one by one. Still, one managed to get to the Doc, and for an agonizing heartbeat Luke thought: “I wasn’t able to save them all.”
Luckily, the rest of the team retaliated quickly. His eyes widened at the item which Greta used to set the creatures on fire. He made a note to ask her about that device later.
When they finally thought themselves the victor, one of the things just popped up out of nowhere. It was greeted with an equally instant burst of bullets. Brutal once more proved to be a much needed asset of their team.

While people tended to the Doc, Luke could only keep watch, with his gun ready. His mind kept racing: It came out of nowhere! It came out of nowhere! How the hell are we supposed to fight things that just come out of nowhere! But beyond the almost panicking mindflow came a calm tactician’s point of view. A coping mechanism perhaps. When Romo joined his side he was looking at the entrance to the castle intently.

“Your orders, sir?”

Without taking his eyes of the entrance, gun still ready, Luke answered:

“We’ll get the Doc inside. Place him in one of the chairs while we search the room for useful materials. He needs all the rest we can give him right now. God, those wounds were deep.”

Once they were inside his intentions were to look for anything that would help their quest. He also wanted to take a better look at the room’s layout before deciding which way they would go. And he definitely remembered his desire to ask the lady about that handheld flamethrower.

Orders finally recieved

“Your orders, sir?”
“We’ll get the Doc inside. Place him in one of the chairs while we search the room for useful materials. He needs all the rest we can give him right now. God, those wounds were deep.”
“Yes Sir, McGuinness wait 5 minutes then help Reid into the room, Clements with me, lets check it out.”
With Brutal behind him in a covering position Romo led the way back into the gargoyle room, Thompson at the ready....

(OOC: OK entering the room in standard two by two covering formation)

Checking....

... Brutal took another long drag off his cig and then butted it out with his boot... hefting his Schmessier he fell in with the Sarge to move into the room they had just vacated to check it out further... he stayed slightly behind and to the right of the Sarge... making sure not to sweep him with the muzzle of his gun...

His eyes checked out every corner... especially the high areas from where their last horrors had come... he let the Sarge do his thing and check out everything.. his job was to cover the man incase anything jumped out at them... he was alert and ready.

nerd coming down

“Well those need closed, at least at the deep end. “Doc said, “ Open these and thread that needle with the silk. Corbin, you pinch the end shut and I’ll sew it closed, but first shake a little sulfur in the hole before you pinch it.”

As Brutal tried the several time to hit the needles eye Greta came over, “You men are so good with shooting, but leave the fine work to me.” She took the silk and needle and in smooth deft motion she threaded, drew and knotted the silk. As Doc reached for the needle Greta glared down at him,” You lay still, I’ve sewn a person before, I had brothers that couldn’t seem to keep from falling out Grandfather’s trees.” Pushing Doc’s hand away Greta leaned in and blocked Jack view in a way that was highly distracting to the Doctor. Greta was a beautiful woman and it had been awhile. “I’ll have to put two in each; I’ll be as quick as I can. But first I am going to pour a bit of this on the wound." She says producing a small plastic bottle from her purse If you feel nothing, that will be good. If it hurts, you must tell me.”

(Assuming a "what is that" or "wait a minute")

Greta squirted the water into the wound and waited for a reaction. The Doc didn't flinch and then shook his head. She nodded, "Holy water. that was all. If it was still alive it might have burned, but we'd know that you had to have the pieces removed."

With the same deft motion she used to thread the needle and drawing the silk tight, pulling the gashed meat together. Greta let out the breath she didn’t realize she was holding. “There, that should hold them. If you have any disinfectant you need to clean it over those before you cover them.”

Jack pulled out a silver flask. Closest I got to disinfectant.”, he gasped. Jack held the flask out to Greta, and she took the flask and applied it liberally, “Now bandage him up, you may need him later” she said as she got up and re-shouldered her rifle.

The gargoyles had died like living creatures but what was left of their bodies and returned to the stone they had once been.

“Your orders, sir?” Romo asked

“We’ll get the Doc inside. Place him in one of the chairs while we search the room for useful materials. He needs all the rest we can give him right now. God, those wounds were deep.” Luke replied looking grim. The mission was getting stranger by the minute.

“Yes Sir, McGuinness wait 5 minutes then help Reid into the room, Clements with me, let's check it out.”

With Brutal behind him in a covering position Romo led the way back into the gargoyle room, Thompson at the ready. Upon entry, you see that things were pretty much as you left them except for the stone debris which is all over the room. No more gargoyles looking down upon you and the castle is now quiet as a grave. The two dead german soldier were torn apart, most likely by the gargoyles. They have two mags for Schmessier each but there weapons are damaged and bent by claws and talons and are completely spent. They also have two grenades each - Model 24 Stielhandgranates or potato mashers.

Once the entire unit is in the room you put the doctor down on a chair and give him some time to recover. The bandages are red, but holding well and he seems to be moving a lot better than before as the pain meds kick in.

Greta goes over to where she dropped her lighter and picksit up, pulls off the siilver case and removes a small cylinder from the lighter to replace it with another from her purse, and then replaces the cover and puts it back into her bag. "I wouldn't want to lose that." she says to no one in particular, "it was a gift from my late husband."

In the room beside this entry hall (#9), darkness hangs over as no electric lights have been strung. To the east is a set of double doors that are slightly ajar. To the east, a single arched corridor is lit by light from the circular stairwell some twenty feet down. Standing beside the archway to these stairs is a suit of plate armour in a shallow alcove, darkness shrouds its helm and faceplate.

Suddenly, there is a clatter of steps from the large stairway to the north, and the team reacts with weapons at ready towards the steps. A lone man, balding middle age, very thin with a white lab coat, stained with blood and dirt comes running down the stairs. He sees you and screams, quite girlishly and then raises his hands in the air.

"Nicht schießen! Ich bin unbewaffnet." Do not shoot! I am unarmed! he shouts and then screams again as he loses his footing and tumbles down the stairs to the floor below in a cacophony of screams and thuds. He lies at the bottom, moaning in some pain.

Was ist das?...

Finding the gargoyle room empty of any further threats… Brutal sent over to what remained of the dead Germans… he relieved them of any useful ammo and equipment that was not destroyed… taking the Schmessier ammo he handed the Sarge two of the mags and kept two for himself… finding the two potato masher grenades he smiled…

“Probably have good use for these..” he said and tossed one of them to the Sarge and slipped the other into his belt next to where he kept the grenade that Doc had given him… though bullets seemed to work he liked to have some major damage dealers around if necessary…

He remained on guard as the others came into the room… he only spared a glance in their direction before going back to keeping an eye on the exits from the room… so when a clatter of steps was heard he whirled in that direction and leveled his Schmessier… he didn’t fire when he saw it was a man… and not a soldier from the looks of him… a scientist maybe…

"Nicht schießen! Ich bin unbewaffnet." he shouts and then screams again as he loses his footing and tumbles down the stairs to the floor below in a cacophony of screams and thuds. He lies at the bottom, moaning in some pain.
Brutal didn’t understand but a word or two of German… and none of those words were what the man blurted out… but he did understand the universal sign of surrender… the man throwing his hands up in the air… besides the man looked like hell and he didn’t appear to be armed… his tumble down the steps made Brutal chuckle a little bit… but he maintained his focus… the man was running from something… he was more worried about what might be behind the man up the stairwell…

Moving over towards the man… he stopped over by the wall next to the stairwell from which the man had tumbled… he covered up the stairwell with his weapon… he was ready in case whatever the man was running from was closer than it seemed…

(OOC: He isn’t covering the man… he figures the others have him covered well enough… he is using the wall as cover … if anything non-human appears up the stairs he will open fire)

Questions

They had only just started going through the entrance hall of the castle, when they were disrupted by a man shouting in German. Luke immediately aligned his gun with the man’s movement as he came down the stairs. But the man proved unarmed as far as they could see, and a bit clumsy in his haste. As the man fell, Brutal moved to get a better view of the direction the man had come from.

Luke himself paced over to the man, and grabbed his arm. The captain wasn’t a very strong man, but tried to haul the middle aged German to his feet. He guessed this man was a doctor of some sorts by his dress, and might prove a valuable asset in learning the lay out of the castle.

He got the man into a chair near the resting Doc quite roughly, hoping to shake some of the fear from him. He glanced occasionally to the stairway, and kept his gun ready as he pointed his finger at the lab-rat.

“Sergeant Romo, search this man please.”

As the Sarge went at it, he started his interrogation.

“You’re one lucky canary, mister, to run into us. We can give you some protection, if you can give us some answers. First of all, what was your job here?”

(OOC: Luke wants to know a whole lot more than that, but it’s a start. He’ll ask about the layout of the castle, where the library is, where they can find either Captain Metzger or the Head Scientist, after clarifying whether or not he’s the latter himself, and what the man knows about destroying the creatures and the portal that has been created.)

Guard duty to medic to guard duty

Corban looked at Doc's wounds until the woman came up and took over the operation. He was fine with that. He could do some medical work if needed, but was far more comfortable with a riflew than a medical needle.

After the Doc was temporarily patched up the group moved back into the big room again. The sniper thought about leaving behind his signature card to mark his kills, for certainly he had helped take out some of the gargoyles. But he didn't drop any. He doubted they would know what it meant, but he didn't think he wanted whatever was here to know he had been here. There was still a job to do, but it just didn't seem like the time to sign your name to it. So he didn't.

As they moved back into the big hall where the attack had begun, the sniper took up a position near the entrance they came in and, placing his back to a wall, stood guard. In particular, he kept his eye on the suit of armor. it wouldn't be the first time something in this place that was not supposed to move got up and walked. Or flew. Or just existed.

When the German scientists (or so he assumed at a glance) came running and shouting down the stairs the sniper barely flinched. One eye flickered over, but seeing one panicked man come tumbling down the stairs, he allowed his teammates to deal with that situation. He didn't know but a few words in German anyway. Corban continued to stand guard. He watched the armor very carefully, but also spared an occaisonal glance at all of the other entrances - even the one behind them. While the others were preoccupied with the Doctor, it was his job to make sure nothing else snuck up on them.

Great, just great.....

“Well… count yourself lucky Doc…” Brutal said as he turned back to keeping an eye out for more ‘things’… “you didn’t patch yourself up… so you just might make it.”
Jack glanced back at Jake, “Yeah and it looks like I got baptized too, never got that close to Holy Water before.”
Doc, gathered his gear and prepared to move back into the castle.

McGiuinness gave him an arm up and Jack wobbled a bit as he stood. “Sure was a lot easier falling down.” The pain still racked through his shoulder and Jack knew if the aspirins didn’t kick in soon he may be forced to use the morphine. A one winged bird don’t fly so good.

Is was a struggle to get to the heavy wooden chair inside the entrance. Doc knew he had to pull it together, these men need him to keep them patched up. As he sat there a panicked voice came the stairs a lab coated man rushes down, "Nicht schießen! Ich bin unbewaffnet." The tripped and tumbled to the floor.

“Great, just great!”

Last to post yet again LOL

As Romo followed by Brutal did a quick yet thorough search of the room a clatter of steps could be heard coming closer from the large stairway to the north. Suddenly a lone man, balding middle age, very thin with a white lab coat, stained with blood and dirt comes running down the stairs. He sees you and screams, quite girlishly and then raises his hands in the air.

"Nicht schießen! Ich bin unbewaffnet."
Do not shoot! I am unarmed! he shouts and then screams again as he loses his footing and tumbles down the stairs to the floor below in a cacophony of screams and thuds. As Brutal moved quickly to cover the stairway, Romo moved to help the Captain get the German up and moving, calling out orders as he did so to the rest.

“McGuinness cover that area to our South, Miss Greta would you please keep an eye on Doc”
As the Captain roughly shoved the man into a chair Romo felt the need to caution the Captain's use of force.

“Easy Captain, he could be badly hurt and we need what he knows”
Looking at him, the Captain pointed his finger at the lab rat and ordered a search.

“Sergeant Romo, search this man please.”
As Romo searched, the Captain spoke directly to the German, the sergeant seeing that the man did not at first appear to understand English translated the Captain’s words into German.

“You’re one lucky canary, mister, to run into us. We can give you some protection, if you can give us some answers. First of all, what was your job here?”
(OOC: Ok not sure if he does or does not understand English but I’ll continue to translate unless he starts speaking English at which point I‘ll move to stand with Brutal watching the stairs and other entrances into area

Help and strength from beyond..........

As Doc sat there watching, he scanned his crew members. They had pulled together to get this far and they will stay together to end.

Doc saw Brutal position himself once again to protect the team and words of Doc's youth prompted him to give give thanks for these friends. As he sat in the chair and with his head lowered Doc silently asked for help from beyond his power to protect and watch over Jake and the others.

"Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil."

As Doc Reid finished his prayer and raised his head he thought he caught a glimpse of Jake; he nodded his way with that familiar smirk on his face.

Hard to keep a good monster down

“You’re one lucky canary, mister, to run into us. We can give you some protection, if you can give us some answers. First of all, what was your job here?” The Captain says and the Sarge moves to translate for the german prisoner. The man is very agitated and nervous at first. He keeps tell you that there is great danger and that you must flee while you have the chance. But eventually you get this much from him.

His name is Drew Goldstein. He is an electrical engineer brought to the castle two weeks ago to help them with a power surge problem, or so he was told. He doesn't like the Nazis or want to work for them but they have his wife and daughter captive and one wrong move and it would mean Auschwitz for him and them. (A number tattoo on his arm confirms at least part of his story) At first he did what they said but he knew they were doing something very evil here. Something that required a lot of power and attempting to ... well he didn't know but he had heard Herr Doctor say something about opening a dimensional rift.

Last week, they has done an experiment outside and it went horribly wrong. A soldier was electrocuted but then, they found something living in his corpse. After that, things became very bad for Goldstein. He was forced to work on the generators to maximize power. They worked him day and night with little sleep and constant guard. But the guards talked of a creature growing. Civilians were taken for another experiment and then the soldiers started to become scared - there was talk of more monsters appearing. He heard Guards talking about something with no body that possessed men.

Herr Doctor and the Commander attempted the experiment again and all hell broke loose. There was a blue light and then creatures from nightmares poured out. Demons of darkness and fire. Goldstein ran blindly upstairs and hid upstairs in an office until a few moments ago when he decided to make a break for it and found you.

He has no idea where the Commander or Herr Doctor are but he knows that similar equipment is set up in the crypts below the castle. He also tells you that another American soldier was fought with the plane, and is being held prisoner in the castle, in the dungeons below.

Suddenly the scientist starts to cough and hack. He seems to have problems breathing. Doc moves to see what the problem is but suddenly the doctor breaks free and runs for the door. Brutal moves to intercept ..

When suddenly there is a crash and bang from the front of the castle as the doors burst open. A familiar tentacle swiftly reaches into the room and grabs Goldstein. He screams. The monster bellows a angry cry. It is the creature from the bridge, now trying to get into the castle but only able to reach an couple of arms in. The German man is pulled out screaming until a gut wrenching crunch and ripping of flesh and bone puts silence to his protests.

"SONOFABITCH!" Brutal yells, "How often do we have to kill this!?"
