Possibilities..

As always, I seem to be overcome by my want for gaming, and I wind up back here. My work life is busy enough to keep me occupied, but I do find myself wanting to establish one of my creations once more. But, due to my somewhat limited time available to compose a game, this one will be aimed towards those seeking something that tells a great story in which every participant has their definitive role, not just short, too-the-point posts. Which I never care for to begin with..

And so, it is in my interest to seek out a group of four to six people for a heavy roleplaying experience, located, as always, within the boundaries of my own world of Baelenoa. I will post more information later today as I get a few things out of the way and thus have time to write them up, but for now, this is merely something to see if I catch any eyes, and an overdue hello to those I have not seen for some time.

A One-Year Synopsis...

It has been one year since Cardinal Ilphian declared Season of the Witch in Alcana.

Throughout the terrors of this inquisition, hundreds of heretical 'arcanists' and others who would oppose the Cardinal's bloody purging of the land have been publicly executed. Many more have vanished without trace, and in the wake of the ravaging Scarlet Flashfever, the citizens fear for their lives with every passing day. In the fractured state of the nation after King Alphonse III passed the previous year from the contagion, the temple of Mallien and its holy knights have taken hold over much of the political fray. The Lionte Throne has been occupied by Akkeyl Feirniese, holding regency after a forced claim with the backing of Ilphian.

The Barovain family has been almost entirely exterminated during the witch trials. What was once the right hand of the royal family has been reduced to a scant few remaining members, driven out of the capital of Vyrrmas and into hiding in the countryside. Throughout the span of the year of the inquisition, the once-proud family found itself being gradually picked off under false claims from Ilphian's Seekers, but as the months rolled past, their remaining members dwindled rapidly beneath the fervour that scoured the city.

Alcana found the spark of unrest kindled to outright civil war after a mysterious personality named Erkand Vale proved to the nation that the clergy of Mallien was specifically targeting the Barovain line under the cover of the witch hunts, removing the opposition for the Feirniese family. Vale's resistance army, assembled throughout the months, was put down by the temple knights, and survivors scattered into the wilderness. Proclaiming Erkand Vale eliminated, the resistance forces found themselves leaderless, and spread out across the country.

Supporters of the seemingly-extinct Barovains, as well as those in opposition to the sweeping mobs that tore up the land, have formed up in refugee camps on all ends of the nation. The general populace is too frightened of the consequences of speaking out to break their routine, but those bearing great spirits and steel nerves have begun to make their stand...

Now, provided I get some responses here, I'll start putting up some world information, party details, and so on.. For the time, I'm looking for four to six players who are seeking out something that promises to challenge both your inner-gamer and the composer in you. Just ask anybody who's gamed with me before

Well well well

Sounds very interesting. Love the political intrigue.
What are the game details?

Something to consider

Finally, some interest! I was afraid my reputation had finally been hit with an axe after my last disappearing act.. I like your writing style too, Nimu, so it pleases me to see your interest here.

Details, eh? Well, let's see...

As you know, four to six Pcs are required for this chronicle. But beyond that? How about...

-Setting is my own world, Baelenoa.
-3.0 Edition, basic core books (For now, anyway..)
-Character level 3.
-Races will be chosen from a supplied list of my own peoples of Baelenoa, which I shall supply. Certain races will only allow one PC to select.
-Classes are standard from the PHB. If this actually gets anywhere, I may open up the options for additional sourcebooks.
-I like to avoid class stacking, so unless it is an obvious class (Like fighter or thief) I typically only allow one PC of a given class in my games.
-Due to my own schedule, updates will come generally once a week, so its not going to be an especially fast-paced game. But! In the event that everybody gets posts in, I may be able to sneak another update in, just to keep things going.
-Like all my games, its going to be RP heavy. Checking out Season of the Witch will give an idea of what I expect from my players, and in turn, what I put out. I look for realistic characters, but that information comes a bit later once we have some people to game with...

Beyond that, character building and the like is engineered with my anti-munchkin system, which I will list further if we get a bit more interest. But for now, this is a start. Specific questions can be fielded here. And, just to give something for reference, some world information can be found at the Q/A for my original game of this theme, Season of the Witch.

http://www.rdinn.net/view_topic.php?topicid=2141&page=1

This will also give you an idea of how I chronicle all my information and the like.

So, in addition to Nimu, I have interest from one other person, so we need at least two more. Spread the word, and lets see if we can't get this moving.

Okee Dokee

Took a look at your Season of the Witch Q&A. It seems like you've got a very rich world there, complex and full of intrigue.

The twilight elves are fantastically interesting, I've got a twilight elf druid already taking form in my head. Also have some ideas for a woodland elf illusionist.

I'm not familiar with the 3rd edition, just 3.5. How much do they differ? Are the core books essentially the same? I'll have more questions later but will hold off for now until you get more bites on this thread.

Me too. I am very interested in a game. I am down to two steady but slow game active games the rest have DM that have disappeared and one that had not started yet. I can play just about anything needed to help balance the group out.

Rulings

Core books are largely the same between the two, aside from a few small changes. 3.5 spellcasters seem to have many more offensive spells at their disposal, as well. A few character abilities and the like have changed. Nothing major. If all you have is 3.5, we can try to work with that.

Now... There is already one player who has laid claim to a Mith'ganni, by invite of my own. But! With a sufficient writing sample, I may allow a second in. Due to their rarity, Mith'ganni are not encountered often whatsoever. But, at the same time, players seem captivated by them! I'm torn!

With Brianna, that makes three. One more can get us the minimum count, and at that, I can start putting up much more information in a new thread. But I think its safe to assume that we'll have a fourth, and thus, you can all start drawing up ideas. If any of you know somebody who might be interested, feel free to push some ideas

Engineering

At some point tonight, I'll establish an actual Q/A thread for us, in which I'll start dumping world information and the like to allow you something to build your characters off of. It just seems so improper to have to reference you to my old game thread to find the info... But, for now, here are the character building formats I will subject you to for your creations.

-3.0 Edition
-3rd level, using classes from standard core books. Branching off into other material may happen later, but I'd rather not go through all the hassle of tracking down other information, only to have this not work out.
-Races are to be chosen from my lists provided. Special racial information will be sent out with selections.
-No magical gear.
-Starting funds are 130 Ketch (1 Ketch = 1 Gold while in Alcana) to purchase what you like. In addition, the following items are supplied to you:
1 Weapon, of normal grade. Missile weapon comes with appropriate ammo (x20) and matching case.
1 Suit of up to medium armour, normal grade.
1 Backpack, with bedroll and waterskin.
1 Tinderbox (Contains tinder, plus flint and iron)
1 Appropriate Item, supplied by me once I receive your character sheet.
-Please supply a detailed background and description. The more, the better. Yes, I do use it.
-On top of normal character info, please supply the following:
Phobia
Obsession
Ambition
Trigger (Trigger is a certain something that stirs the character's emotions on a particularly deep level. It might be child abuse, it might be witnessing starvation, but its deep)
Pick something realistic here. Selections that are particularly uncommon to prevent fear and the light will certainly arise more often, on principal alone :]

And now...

The Anti-Munchkin Engine This is my device to prevent overpowered low-level characters, and to provide a bit more balance to the group.

All attributes are rolled from 4D6, drop the low die. No re-rolls. Supply as you will. Normal, right? Here's the difference..

Before racial modifiers, only ONE attribute may exceed sixteen. If more than one roll do so, two of them may top out at sixteen, with one being higher. That's three rolls so far. The next two numbers cannot exceed fourteen, and are reduced to fourteen if they are higher. The final tops at 12. Thus, the highest possible count can be 18ish, 16, 16, 14, 14, 12. And that's if you're lucky. But it provides some balance and no big-time heroes at low level. Attach racial mods afterwards.

Balance, right?

Have fun!

dammit

I would love to put my name in the hat on this, but as it stands my work schedule has my time so drained I'm only half-present on the other games I'm playing in/DMing at the moment. I've been rather drained lately anyway, not sure I could live up to the expectations that I know you are (in)famous for.

Well now

Good to see you, Shield Wolf! The rate this game would move along at would be about once a week or so, and with proper notice and a bit of instruction as to what to do, an update can be bypassed and moved on. So, if you find this manageable, you've got a seat here.

You know what...

I think I will commit to this, I've been waiting for this since you last announced Season pt 2. I'll try to keep up with posting or at least let you know when I'll be delayed and whatnot. Just please try to be patient with me, I've been under a lot of stress, but this may just be what I need to loosen some of that up. I'll let the other players decide what they'd like to play and just fill whatever role is needed by the party.

Questions

Might there still be room for 1 more?

And if so, you said 3.0 core books, is 3.5 acceptable?
Also, if we want something outside of the core books, are they completely off limits or can we try to sell you on the idea?

Hm..

One more puts us up to five, which is within my six PC limit. Four was what we needed to get moving. Welcome aboard, Steelight.

While I prefer to use 3.0, I'm not entirely opposed to 3.5, depending on what it is. One thing I had forgotten to include in the above post is that I disallow monks every single time. They're too overpowered to make any reasonable amount of sense to me But what is the class you are thinking of? If anything, I may allow cross-classing into it, but for the time, I think I'd prefer to disallow outside stuff until you guys at least gain one level. A level up shows that we're at least going somewhere with this
