Conversation

Tatiana smiled brightly at the greeting from the Mith'ganni. They were typically loners and often didnt associate with even their own 'cousins'. This one might be different but his appearance tended towards those use to dealing within the shadows. 'Darkness withered the heart' was a famous Elvin saying. At least among the Elves that dwelled within the light.

"Vedui' Heru en amin," she replied in kind her voice the exact opposite of his own for it was soft and almost musical, "yes it is quiet but I rather enjoy the solace of silence... sometimes." She lifted her own wine glass to him and drank from it as she continued to study him over it's edge.

Lowering the glass she continued, "You seem a 'regular' here," she stated, "I noticed how the serving girl brought your drink unbidden."

She seemed a little intrigued by this strange Mith'ganni. They had a reputation as being troublemakers and untrustworthy. Only time would tell if such was the case with this one.

And so it continues

Nyx shrugged at the woman's appraisal. "I stop in from time to time," he replied, "and they know me well enough, I suppose." He paused, here, sipped at his wine, and let his gaze flit around the room once more before returning his attentions to the woman. "Though, not as well as they should like to imagine, yes?"

He shifted in his shadows, then, taking another taste of his wine before relegating the goblet to the table. As he leaned forward to do so, his yellow eyes caught light from the hearth and flashed from the darkness in which he sat as they took the woman in. A faint, yet, razor sharp smile played on his lips.

"And, you, my cousin," the Mith'ganni continued as he studied her, "You are not a ‘regular' to this place, hm? What brings you here this evening I might wonder?"

More wine please

Tatiana shrugged as she took a sip of wine before responding. She let her gaze also look about the room but the other might notice a faint hint of apprehension as she did so.

"No, I have never before visited this area," she said after she lowered her glass to the table and fixed him in her gaze again.

"I'm just... passing through," she continued with a faint uneasy smile, "My name is Tatiana. May I have the pleasure of your name sir?"

She looked over seeing the serving girl return from the kitchen. She lifted her near empty glass in the air and the girl nodded and ran over with the bottle to refill her glass.

"Leave the bottle please," she told her and slipped a coin from one of her pouches and slid it slowly with her hand over to the girl.

"Yes My Lady," Sara said as she picked up the coin. Nyx might have caught a flicker of light off the Golden color.

(Edit: Fixes spelling error. Decides wine sounds good and goes to pour a glass )

o.O

"My name is Tatiana. May I have the pleasure of your name sir?"

The Mith'ganni's smile sharpened all the more at that, and he took up his goblet, again, indulging in a languid sip before replying. "My name typically brings anything but pleasure," he chuckled softly, drawing an uneasy glance from Sarah as she moved to refill Tatiana's glass, "but you may have it, all the same. I am Nyx Shyndyn."

Sarah might have shuddered in the moment she took the elf-woman's gold coin in trade for the bottle she'd left on the table, but, in the flurry of motion that was her secreting that coin away and taking leave of the table, it might have gone unnoticed. Undetected or otherwise, though, the Mith'ganni seemed to take some amusement from it, chuckling softly around the rim of his cup as he took another sip of his wine.

Gasoline, match, sits back and waits. :)

Tatiana laughed heartily at his words. She looked at him silently for a long moment before smiling.

"If there was any a doubt of what you are," she said softly, "that doubt has certainly been erased."

She seemed to anticipate that he was going to ask for clarification of her words so she went on.

"It has been a long time since I have encountered one of your kind," she says with a faint smirk on her lips, "but all Mith'ganni I have met show the same desire to mystify and frighten others with shadowed threats and meager displays of power."

Her smirk grew as she raised her now filled wine glass to her lips. She paused short of drinking and added, "Oh and they are all quite arrogant as well."

She drank of the wine deeply then lowered the glass and raised and eyebrow as she waited for a response. Still she idly played with the blue jeweled ring on her free hand. It seemed an almost unconscious action as if she didn't even realize she was doing it.

(OOC: ~Sips wine herself and waits for a response~ )

Volley... ;)

Nyx smiled in the face of the woman's appraisal of the Mith'ganni and, while the expression had the appearance of amusement, there was a coldness to it that made the smile almost mask-like. Once Tatiana had finished passing her judgement and taken to toying with her ring, Nyx nodded faintly, and reached for his wine. A drink from the goblet washed the smile from his lips and his moon-hued eyes skimmed the room before returning to Tatiana.

"My people must have changed quite a bit since I was last among them, yes?" He sipped at his wine, again, and seemed to contemplate the matter for a moment. "In fact, the last time I recall any attempts to mystify and frighten, as you say, or any ‘meager displays of power,' it came from our shaman," he arched a brow and leaned back, deeper into his shadows, "He died trying to frighten me, in fact." That last was spoken somewhat softer and had more the sound of confession to it than boast.

"As to arrogance," he continued after a moment, a bit of the humor returning to his voice, now, "I suppose you have the right of it, there, my cousin. I have been named so, myself, yes? So, perhaps, this is a truth.

Shall I share with you, another, then," the razor-edged smile flitted across his lips again, "I have learned, in all these many years away from Shanurdir, that true arrogance - the purest form of it - is often a domain specifically reserved for spell-slinging slitches."

Back atcha.

Tatiana tilted her head back and laughed heartily; it was a musical sounding laugh that drifted like musical notes about the room. The staff in the room all looked over at her in wonder at how anyone speaking with Nyx would find anything to laugh about with him. Shortly though they all begin to smile just a little as if they got the joke but none of them realized that they had no clue to what was being said over there.

"Touche," she said to him when she was done laughing.

"You have to admit that the people here are afraid of you," she said with a gesture of her head towards where Sara worked wiping down the bar, "Now why is that I wonder? Is it because you have harbored nothing but good intentions towards these people? Or, maybe it is because you have been all mysterious with a threatening demeanor every time you have come here?" She raised her glass to sip while she looked at him over the rim before continuing speaking again.

"You say you dont try to mystify and frighten 'cousin'," she said using his term for their relationship, "yet you use the shadows and frighten simple folk and do nothing to contradict any thoughts, real or imagined, about you. So tell me what does that mean about your demeanor?"

He would surely notice that she made no mention of his mentioned 'confession' about possibly killing someone. As if that didn't matter to her in the slightest. Her eyes studied him and if he looked close enough he might see a faint bluish glow to the irises as she did so.

Amin n'rangwa edanea

"Perhaps," Nyx answered from behind a wry grin, "it means that I care very little for what they might think of or about me, yes?" His gaze swept the room, again, pausing on one face or another along the course of it's travel; regarding each with a bit more curiosity than he'd ever deigned to allow before. When he framed Tatiana in his sight again, he offered a faint shrug along with a short puff of air that may have passed for a chuckle; "And, perhaps, this ‘fear' they have of me is self-inflicted.

I come to this place for the wine," he continued, still grinning, "the mushroom stew, and, from time-to-time - how is it said? - to conduct business, yes? Never have I threatened a one of them, or so much as raised my voice, to that end. Neither have I ever caused a disturbance on any of my visits. I come, I drink my wine, I eat my stew, and, now and again, have conversations. What is there to fear from that?"

The Mith'ganni lifted his goblet again. "Yes," he said following a taste of the wine, "any fear they have of me comes from their own imaginings, I think. Or from rumors nervously whispered across a tavern table, mayhap, hm? They have more to fear, I think, from you, lirimaer," he gestured at Tatiana with his cup, and winked, "With your sorcerous eyes and all your little eldritch trinkets." He feigned a shudder even as he smiled; "Terrifying. Truly."

Uuner uma, n'dela no'ta

Tatiana watched Nyx as he explained himself and his thoughts and ideals regarding his impact and perceptions of those beings around him. Her eyes never wavered from him as she simply swirled the wine in her glass with her left hand and caressed the ring on her right. When he was done she smiled at him and nodded her head.

"Truly terrifying yes," she chuckled at his obvious joke and thought if only he knew the truth of his words. For an instant a fiery light came to her eyes or maybe it was just a flicker of the fireplace flames reflected there for a moment.

"I am sure that these people are assuming alot when it comes to you," she said with a shrug, "it is the image that you project and they accept it and believe the worst. That is the nature of the Edan." She looked about the room at the humans present and a sad light came to her face. Turning back to him her smile returned as she appraised him once again.

"What I dont understand," she went on, "is that you dont seem to care that they fear you and possibly despise you though you have done nothing to them to earn such treatment. I mean it is obvious that you speak the truth when you say that you have not harmed or threatened them otherwise they wouldnt welcome you here at all."

"You mention conducting business here," she said with a sly smile coming to her lips, "and with your demeanor and the treatment you receive am I wrong to think that your profession is that of a Sereg'wethrin?"

She took a sip of her wine giving him a chance to confirm or deny her question. Before he could respond the front door of the Inn opened and a man stood outlined in the doorway for a moment before he entered the room. He was followed by two other large men and they all glanced about the room taking it in before heading to a table near the front window where they sat. Sara headed over to the table to added to their needs.

These three men appeared human but were large and powerful looking with obvious armor and weapons under the long travelling cloaks that covered them. They didnt seem interested much in anything else in the room as they spoke to Sara about what was available.

Tatiana's eyes turned as did most everyone's here to observe the newcomers as they entered and sat themselves. If anyone was watching her closely they might have noticed a flash of recognition perhaps in her eyes along with the same fiery 'reflection' shown there.

Developments

"What I don't understand," the elfin woman pondered, "is that you don't seem to care that they fear you and possibly despise you though you have done nothing to them to earn such treatment. I mean it is obvious that you speak the truth when you say that you have not harmed or threatened them otherwise they wouldn't welcome you here at all."

"There is precious little to understand, arwen en amin," Nyx smirked, "I do not care, it is as simple as this, yes?"

"You mention conducting business here," she said with a sly smile coming to her lips, "and with your demeanor and the treatment you receive am I wrong to think that your profession is that of a Sereg'wethrin?"

The Mith'ganni matched her expression with a wily grin of his own but, before he could respond (if he had planned on responding, at all), her attentions, along with most others, were drawn by the arrival of three, rather large men. Nyx gave them a cursory glance, appraised them as fighters of some sort, and, as the trio took to a table on the opposite side of the room, he dismissed them as a minimal threat,

Just soldiers, he supposed, sipping at his wine as his gaze peeled away from the men, or monkey-faced muscle in the employ of some other powdered and perfumed round-ear,

He checked that appraisal, though, when his attention slithered back to Tatiana. There was a light of recognition that flashed in her eyes when she saw the trio and, also, that same flame-like flickering that he'd ignored when it had been directed at him just a moment ago.

Curious, Nyx mused, simply watching her watching them for an instant, Very curious, indeed.

"Someone you know, lovely," he grinned from the shadows, arching a brow as her gaze turned back towards him, "or, perhaps, someone you would rather not see?"

Trouble?

"Someone you know, lovely," he grinned from the shadows, arching a brow as her gaze turned back towards him, "or, perhaps, someone you would rather not see?"

Tatiana turned back to look at Nyx as her eyes returned to their normal appearance. "Whether I see them or not matters little to me," she said with a shrug, "though it will matter to them if they do disturb this ‘lovely' conversation that we are having." She smiled and sipped of her wine.

"So," she continued, "you haven't answer my question Sereg'wethrin." She said it as if it was a foregone conclusion. As if his not answering were an answer.

"Also," she said leaning forward slightly to meet his gaze, "what people think of you would be very important in your line of ‘business'. I would think. I mean if they perceive you as a threat then they are automatically on their guard and this increases the difficult of the ‘business." Now look at me? These people here at this Inn see no threat in me. They consider me harmless and therefore are ill prepared for anything that I might choose to do. If I were so inclined." She finished with a small grin.

There was a noise at the other table as their drinks were brought by Sara. The men chuckled a little bit and one made a half-assed attempt to grab the serving girls butt. She was more adept at such attempts and easily avoiding it and gave the men a playing chuckle as she whisked back towards the kitchen to fetch their food orders.

Tatiana glanced briefly towards the men hoping they would not recognize her and start anything. She was enjoying the conversation with the Mith'ganni and the atmosphere of this simple place. She seldom got to just relax and if these men worked for who she thought they did then there might be trouble. She sighed and turned her attention back to her companion.

As the Inn grows louder

"Whether I see them or not matters little to me," Tatiana said with a shrug, "though it will matter to them if they do disturb this ‘lovely' conversation that we are having."

"You have very little to worry over, there, cousin," Nyx replied, gesturing toward the tall, heavily armed half-elf who, taciturnly, stood his post at one end of the bar, "That one, Murph, I believe he is called, yes?... it is his job to ensure no steel is drawn, here, without, unpleasant repercussions."

The woman smiled and sipped at her wine before continuing; "So, you haven't answered my question, Sereg'wethrin."

"Would an answer matter, Arwen istar?" he grinned cryptically, an alabaster finger tracing languidly along the stem of his goblet as he watched her, and the three fighters beyond her, "you seem to have already made your determination."

She seemed less inclined, now, to have him admit to his profession, taking his reticence as an answer unto itself. She did continue the conversation as if he had provided a firm reply, though.

",what people think of you would be very important in your line of ‘business,' I would think," she had observed, "I mean if they perceive you as a threat then they are automatically on their guard and this increases the difficult of the ‘business.' Now look at me? These people here at this Inn see no threat in me. They consider me harmless and therefore are ill prepared for anything that I might choose to do. If I were so inclined."

That razor-sharp smile danced on the Mith'ganni's lips, again, disappearing only briefly, when Nyx indulged in another taste of his wine. "My work speaks for itself," he said, "and it is the work for which I am hired, not my charm, yes? Let them think what they like,"

"Yes I assumed that was his role," Tatiana said butdidnt even look at the half elf who she had noticed when she entered, "but he might have his hands full if they tried anything in here. But if that happens we shall see."

"Would an answer matter, Arwen istar?" he grinned cryptically, an alabaster finger tracing languidly along the stem of his goblet as he watched her, and the three fighters beyond her, "you seem to have already made your determination."

"Indeed," she chuckled, "but if one does not deny then one has to settle with others opinions."

That razor-sharp smile danced on the Mith'ganni's lips, again, disappearing only briefly, when Nyx indulged in another taste of his wine. "My work speaks for itself," he said, "and it is the work for which I am hired, not my charm, yes? Let them think what they like,"

"So be it," Tatiana said with a shrug, "If you are perfectly happy with it than who am I to gainsay you."

She took a sip of wine and her eyes flicked over to the three men and noticed one of them who faced her way seemed to be looking at her closely. Lowering her glass she turned her eyes back to Nyk.

"It seems they might be looking for me," she says to him in a lowered voice, "if they start anything do not intrude. You aren't being paid so there is no need for your 'services'." She grinned at the last. His refusal to confirm or deny her acqusations about his profession seemed to bring her some small amount of amuzement.

Just then the one man who had been looking their way leaned forward and whispered to his companions. The other two turned slightly so they could see her and then turned back and the whispering continued.

As the not so discreet turnings of appraising eyes and susurrations of conspiratorial whispering escaped the tight knot of the three recently arrived round-ears, Nyx peered past Tatiana at the men in an attempt to gauge their intent. Tatiana, too, had been affording the trio with a glance of her own, in this time, and, when she turned back to regard Nyx, she lowered her glass and softly said; "It seems they might be looking for me."

"I had imagined as much," the Mith'ganni replied sardonically, "not the greatest of discretion in that lot, yes?"

"If they start anything, do not intrude," she said, adding with a smile, "You aren't being paid so there is no need for your 'services'."

Nyx's reply to this was, simply, to take up his goblet and, following a sip of the dregs at the bottom of the thing, extract himself from his shadows. As he whispered across the short distance between his, now abandoned table, and hers, he subtly waved his goblet in Sarah's direction by way of requesting a refill. The barmaid nodded her confirmation and fetched the bottle as the Mith'ganni reached Tatiana's table and settled himself into the seat across from her. "You make many assumptions, my cousin," Nyx smiled coolly, his moon-eyed gaze slithering to the knot of soldiers and, then, back to Tatiana, "Who is to say that I am not being paid other than those parties who have offered the coin for my services? And, better, who is to say for what I might be receiving that payment, yes?"

Sarah arrived at the table, then, and wordlessly refilled Nyx's cup. This done, the barmaid's eyes flitted nervously from the Mith'ganni to the table where the three fighters continued in their hushed tones, and, finally, back to Tatiana whereupon she, at last managed something of a smile; "Another for you, m'lady?"

((OOC: Room for Tatiana's reply here,))

As Sarah scampered away, Nyx smiled across the table at the sorceress. "You have named me assassin more than once, this night, arwenamin," he said softly, "and, in that, perhaps, you are not mistaken. Who is to say, though, that I only get paid for the taking of lives, hm?"

Reprieve?

Tatiana smiled and then shrugged as her only answer to his questions which to her seemed rhetorical anyway.

Tatiana lifted the still half full bottle and smiled at the girl, "I'm fine for now darling! Thank you!" She topped off her glass while she had bottle in hand.

As Sarah scampered away, Nyx smiled across the table at the sorceress. "You have named me assassin more than once, this night, arwenamin," he said softly, "and, in that, perhaps, you are not mistaken. Who is to say, though, that I only get paid for the taking of lives, hm?"

"Ah," she said with a raised eyebrow, "I see. You are a Mercenary. Forgive my earlier misconceptions."

Movement across the room drew her eyes away from him briefly as she looked to the table where the three men sat. One of the men rose and downing the last of his drink he hurried out of the Inn but not before casting a brief glance in their direction. The other two stayed there as the serving girl brought food from the kitchen to their table.

"Seems we will have more time to discuss professions," she said as her eyes turned back to him, "seems he might be going for reinforcements perhaps."

"So," she leaned forward towards him a little and lowered her voice, "tell me. Are you on a 'job' now? Have you come to this place other than to drink? Perhaps the strapping men there are but a distraction and it is you that I should be wary of?" Her smile said that she didn't seem to be worried about him or even the men across the room other than it would cause a disturbance of the Peace and Quiet of the Inn.
