Reavers in D&D?

Greetz, All!

So, recently I ordered a bunch of Star Wars miniatures online, ones that on one level or another I felt could be adapted for use in D&D. One group of these really caught my eye--the Yuuzhan Vong. At first blush they evoked a definite Reaver (Firefly) kind of vibe with their ritualistic scarification and ultra-militant and savage ways. The Star Wars wiki page of the Yuuzhan Vong cites that this race was responsible for nearly destroying the New Republic, slaughtering almost 365 trillion during their rampage through Republic systems. This kind of thing gets my attention quickly.

Right now, this idea is just in its beginning stages. Currently I have no idea what CR to make them, what their natural AC bonus should be, or what damage stats to assign their staff weapons which they call “amphistaffs,” which according to Wookiepedia are “capable of spitting venom or coiling around foes.” I’m posting this to see if you, my fellow Inn-mates, think this is worth pursuing further. Do the Githyanki already serve in the role of “otherworldly savages” and fill that need in the mythos? Should I try blending Yuuzhan Vong with Reaver elements, or would that be superfluous? The more I read up on this race the more fascinated I get.

Oh, and here's the page on the Yuuzhon Vong:

hmm

I am not certain since I have not done a detailed comparison, but I believe D&D and Star Wars Saga Edition are reasonably compatible. SWSE is somewhere between 3.5 and 4th edition, I think. So if you have the Saga Edition book, and notably the Legacy Era sourcebook, that could help you out a lot.

Their stats can be found in the Species chapter in the Legacy Era book (I'm not sure if I can post them here).

They also have their own Prestige Class called Shaper, new Talent Tree (which you can treat as Feats in D&D I think), and there are some new Biotech Feats which fits them better than others.

They also come with biotech (basically, living machines and tools), and the Amphistaff can be found on page 121 in the Saga Edition core book.

Hyup

You can also find the Yuuzhan Vong in "Ultimate Alien Anthology" along with a lot of other races.

My two coppers

I say go with it. Make them your own. The Githyanki are formidable in their own right, but there's a certain civilization about them that a true barbarian race doesn't have. The mix you're talking about sounds awesomely terrifying should you be able to truly present them as Neutral or Chaotic Evil. A race born and suckled on the insanity of shades from the Negative Plane, or something truly abstract and unpredictable.

Thus far. . .

Yuuzhan Vong Ideas

--Spell Immunity/Resistance (Arcane only)
--Prohibited from using Magic Items
--Natural Armor bonus +3
--Prohibited from using metal weapons and armor
--Classes: Warrior, Priest, Shaper
--Racial Bonus on Will, Fortitude Saves
--Racial Bonus on STR, CON
--Immune Poison
--Hit Dice d10
--Pain Ritual Benefits (Ability and Save Bonuses)
--Alignments LN, LE
--Living Armor (no loss of speed, protects like plate armor, gives DR 10/Mithral maybe Adamantine)
--Tattoo magic (Divine) grants benefits through body modification
--Fast Healing 5
--Other armor allowed Hide Padded Leather
--Weapons Amphistaff (like Quarterstaff, but gives bonuses to Trip, Disarm and Grapple attempts and has Poison option)
--Favored Enemies any sentient found advancing non-biological technology, Gnomes especially.
--Relations with Other Races The YV see themselves as perfection and have no economic or diplomatic relations with other Humanoid races. They are conquerors first and always.

Star Wars Legacy Era Stats (thanks, Skari!)
Abilities +2 STR, -2 WIS
Medium Size
Base Land Speed 6 squares
Force Immunity (Cannot take certain Force feats and are immune to any Force power requiring a Will Save)
Technophobe (Cannot gain proficiency in heavy weapons rifles or pistols)
Weapon Familiarity (Amphistaffs are simple, not exotic weapons
Languages: Yuuzhan Vong

After several minutes of web searches, it turns out others have had similar ideas concerning adapting this race to 3.5. At least even with this meager start I'm ahead of what has been done so far on the D&D wikia. I'm not terribly wedded to the details, more to the concepts (as in, I know I want them to have a natural armor bonus, but not quite sure where to set it yet).

Edit: Special thanks to Chessicfayth for helping me hash out a lot of these basic ideas in Chat!
