...is that Fan is having the same problem I did with Art School (or, most any school, for that matter). You go in thinking that it's going to boost your creativity, add some new skills to your bag of tricks (which it does), but, after a while, you come to the realization that all the creativity is being buried in favor of turning everything into a regimented process.... Damn you, higher education! Stop smothering my creativity!!!

Yep...my major was to be in Art as well. Luckliy I had a couple of instructors who were "hippies" and allowed us lots of freedom. I didn't mind Art Theory and such... just didn't care for the historical part.

at least it's probably better than music theory

ok, no, that's not why I am stuck. (However, it's very true that i hate to make art now because it's just a chore). But don't get me started on that....and the whole issue of the school I'm at being a joke of an art school.

I'm stuck because of my Immigration into Holland. In order to stay here, i must have a bachelor's or higher degree type of study (4 years or more). That's great and all, except, i can't do what i want because of langauge issues. I've taken two dutch courses and spent craploads of money on learning the language (around 700-800 euro's), but i'm still just not good enough to take on an academic study, and i want to study Environmental Sciences.
So...i'm stuck in art school, because it isn't loaded with Dutch textbooks, and I can get Bachelor's and Masters there. O_o

You know what's incredibly crazy? All bachelor's (4 year) programs are taught in Dutch, but ALL Master's programs are taught solely in English.


I'll be 20 years old tomorrow, and I just feel like i'm having a mid-life crisis.

that's so horrible Fan. Have you considered moving back to the states until you're done with school?
