Real Steel

Alright I haven't seen a review posted about this one here yet, so I'll give it a go.

How would I describe Real Steel in 3 words? Pure Epic Fun! Sure, it's the classic underdog story, but who hasn't at some point had a love for robots? be it from "Danger, Danger Will Robinson", to Transformers, to Wall-e. Couple that with some great special effects, and a touching story of family, redemption and a second shot at life, love and the whole pg rated panorama, and you've got the makings of two hours and five minutes of entertainment.

Hugh Jackman for me was wonderful, from cocky-risk it all (and lose a lot) smart ass to sincere unexpected father, sort of a Rocky Balboa after the fame died down, and fallen on desperate times.

Dakota Goyo, his 11 yr old son in the movie, though I don't recall seeing him in anything else (aside a very brief look I'm Thor as a child) works the screen like a veteran, his body language and attitude reminiscent of the father he barely knows, his charm while growing attached to his own repaired robot Atom, and dancing upon the screen wins over the crowds both on screen and off. (At one point the entire theatre was practically bouncing and dancing from there seats along with Max (dakota Goyo) and Atom.

There is a small amount of real life violence, mostly later in the movie, but I can let that slide when it's a father trying to protect his son/himself from the misdeeds of past mistakes catching up with him (gambling, loansharks etc) With if I'm correctly remembering only two less than pristine words thrown in. One near the beginning (oh sh**) and one near the end comparing Zeus to a female dog.

All in all it was a very enjoyable movie, I'd say children 8 and up if parents find them mature, teenagers and adults for certain will enjoy the clash of steel on steel coupled with hearts of gold and the building of strong family ties and relationships at its core.

One of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a very long time. And considering I went to see it with no previous knowledge about it other than "Dude it's like battle bot boxing 2012 style" (yeah not the most descriptive imagery) It was fantastic.

8/10 stars for me!

Hmmm

Saw a billboard advertising it, and it didn't seem to great. Name and picture put me off a bit ("robots + boxing is not instant win material in my book, and that was the impression the advert gave) but hey, if it's good, I'll see about seeing it.
