Yay for updayt!

This one brings to mind a question I've had since I was first ever introduced to the concept of "healing potions"... Is it really necessary to drink them? I mean, given the fact that they're "magical potions" of a sort, wouldn't they work (possibly even better) if the potion was poured directly onto the wound?

Just a thought... I think ol' dude in the strip probably doesn't care either way... he appears to be bleeding out pretty darn quick.

Another great strip, Celeste.

Last Crusade

In Indiana jones and the Last crusade, the show indy pouring the holy Grail directly into his dad's wound. As well, there is a series of books based on D&D characters where healing Draughts were used directly on the wounds.

So I think you have a legal precedent there Rob.

A couple of ways to look at it

On the one hand, you may be right: just rub them on, and the magic works. Makes intuitive sense, and I think I've played some campaigns in which we used that approach.

On the other hand, we might assume that magic, like medicine, works specific ways in reaction to specific substances under specific conditions, an interpretation that makes sense given the necessity of material components among other details for most spells. In that case, we might assume that the conditions on the outside of the body are not sufficient to activate the magic in the potion, while the conditions inside the body are. This allows for a meaningful distinction between a healing potion and a healing salve, and it then matters whether the recipient is physically able to swallow.

We might also question whether the magic in question targets the wound itself (in which case drinking should not be required) or augments the body's innate ability to heal itself (in which case ingestion is probably a good idea).

Good question, and I enjoyed thinking about it. Thanks.

Well someone call Al and Bro!

I see another Mythbreaker episode! Do healing potions work on the outside as well as drinking? We'd have to wound someone first ......

I approve!

*dances*
Oh yeah!
Uh huh!
Oh yeah!
RPG MB!
Uh huh!

The question is, would that apply to say, other potions? Would it affect the whole body, or just an appendage that it was sprinkled on? For example:

*Potion of Enlarge*

OH GODS! MY HAND!

Aww man....

Cant believe I forgot about Fourth and Floyd day!

and (looks up) and RPG MB discussion!

*grumbles something incoherent about university bureaucracy*

...anyway, another great addition Celeste; gotta keep track of those pesky potions... I find they do indeed tend to get lost in the shuffle

Now that's one testy contact!

Gotta love Cade sneaking/staggering out the door... and the majority of the players "hiding"... good stuff.

Egan is a pretty laid back guy. Except for that night.
