The Shadow Cathedral Recruitment

Well met, weary travelers in search of a good place by the fire. Let me help you forget the blisters on your feet or the sorrow in your mind. Come with me on a journey to unknown lands and untold legends. Come with me, to a world where your dreams will sweep you off your feet and the darkest horrors may stalk you forever. Dare take my hand, and I will show you there is a true hero underneath your soaked soul.
I’m looking for a party of about six adventurous types who are willing to go on a journey with me inside a horrific tale. You may just survive it, if you keep your mind, and tread carefully.

As for statistics:
- Rules. This is a D&D game, using the 3.5 rules, and mostly the PHB, DMG and MM. Focus your attention on character personality and roleplaying qualities rather than the best skills or powers. If I don’t have access to a book you’re suggesting, what you’re suggesting will not be allowed. Just to make sure: the Book of Nine Swords is not on my shelves.
- Level.Starting level will be 9. This means you have the opportunity to take Prestige Classes. These will always be applied with my permission, and discussing them beforehand is greatly appreciated.
- Races. You pick your race from the PHB, or from the list of Audalis races.
- Stats. Stats are 76 points divided over 6 abilities, with racial bonuses and penalties added later on. Ability increase due to level is already calculated into the 76.
- HP. HP is rolled by me.
- Equipment. You can put together a good equipment list. Starting money will be 36.000 GP, which will give you the possibility to purchase magical items. Due to the fact that Audalis is a low-magic world, you can pick up to three magical items max.
- Alignment. Your character must be good, or have a really good reason not to be. I have had my share of CN characters. Evil can be fun, but only if it is done in the right way. In my experience, not many people know what that way is. See if you can convince me.
- Background. Your characters are all from the world of Audalis, and you’ve all been adventuring together for a while. But, while I would like for you all to have a detailed background, I do require something else:
Instead of a background I need you all to write a small description of how the other players/characters would perceive your character. How has he handled himself in the group so far. What are her general actions in combat; is she a frontrow fighter or more of a cautionary backstabber. What do the other players know about your character? Do the others feel they can rely on him or do they have suspicions of some sort?
Make this entry short, clear, and take in mind that the group has been together for at least 4 adventures or more. What these adventures where is something you are all very free to improvise on.

In addition, the following is very important: Posting frequency will be once a week. That means that once a week you’ll get a full update, but In-Character conversations can be held during the week. Updating will mostly occur on Mondays.

All rolling of dice will be done by me. If you want to use a skill, tell me, and I’ll do the rolling for you. Battles will be rolled by me, and described to you in the updates. So, make sure that your intentions are clear.

I think we all require proper spelling and grammar for this to work well. Also, I need posts to consist of more then a few lines in updates, and I expect your characters to work towards keeping the game going. A post in which you state that your character is waiting and observing can be good once, but if it becomes a regular thing, you’re not helping the game-flow.

Well, looking forward to starting this thing. Hope this will raise some interest.

Yay!

Hey Almerin, you can count me in! Sounds very good especially the level 9. It's been a time since I last created a character beyond the first level.

Woo!!!

Sounds rightious! Can't wait! Thinking of playing a half-elf rogue, may cross-class rogue/fighter or rogue/ranger. Not quite sure.

Very Tempting ...

..... but in the light of recent real life circumstances I think it best to pass on this one and enjoy the read as the adventure unfolds!

*ding!*

Oh yes. Yes please?

I would love to be apart of this game! Let me bounce some ideas around in my head, as the 9th level character allows for some pretty nifty goodies.

Plus, I love the intro line. You got me hook, line, and sinker with that one.

Ready to Roll-up a character

So, this is me tossing my hat in the ring for consideration as the party's rogue. I'm proficient with the D&D 3.5 system and can definitly keep to the once a week posting schedule. Let me know if I make the .

Merci,
Phelan

EDIT:

Second choice: I have a mage that might just fit in with this litle venture...after all he's got nothing to live for. Let me know which option fits in with the party better.

Merci encore,
Phelan

wow

Fast reactions people. Very promising!

Alright, you're all in, so here's the list so far:

Raven - Human Fighter
Aleric - Half elf Rogue
Riaucard - Human Cleric/Fighter
Celeste - Human Swashbuckler
Phelan - I'd like you to go for the mage, since we have a rogue already. If you prefer the rogue however, that's fine by me.
Brundel - Halfling Monk

Also, Aleric sent me his sheet already and has crafted a Character Description that I think fits exactly what I had in mind. I'm going to put it up here, so you can use it as an example. Now you don't have to copy his lay-out or set-up exactly. It's the general feel that I would like to see for each character.

Character Description:
Ark is, at first impression, a young, savvy traveler. He has a rough but lively feel to him, casual and lighthearted. His wit is as sharp as a blade, and he makes it his duty to play the joker in good times, look after the emotional well-being of the group in bad times, and all-in-all have a good time. When the group hits the tavern, he is always among the first to order drinks and the last to stop, though he has the sense to keep his wits about him. He is perceptive, quick with his thoughts and words, and socially reliable, for the role that he plays.

As one grows deeper, Ark begins to flesh out. He, despite his sharp but lackadaisical manner, fancies himself as a bit of an intellectual, philosophy and ethics being his favorite topics, and he gladly discusses and debates these things. To turn this debate into a conversation, however, is another matter; Ark considers his beliefs to be s very personal subject, and, though he is always eager to discuss the concepts, the things he believes and why are privy only to those very close to him.

Aside from these things, Ark is very openhanded with himself. He easily speaks of his personal life and story, such as the childhood wagon-accident that left his lower legs heavily scarred, or his younger sister Alice, living in an orphanage in his home city of Bayris; he visits her as often as possible, and dotes heavily on her whenever he does.

In combat, Ark is very, very much a pragmatist, taking any advantage, no matter how slight, however it may come about. His sword, which he has named Raz, for his late father, is guided by a sloppy, highly-unorthodox style of fencing, which would make any by-the-books teacher cringe but serves him well. This style is an active work, for him. Ark is often seen shadowfencing in his free time, or studying anatomy when possible; anything for an edge.

In terms of physical description, Ark is a lean, flinty young man, with a sharp face, a lopsided grin, and odd-matched eyes of sapphire-ble and a soft, mossy green. His face and body are covered with an assortment of scars large and small, a testament to his original calling as a street urchin in and about the port city of Bayris

New to this...

Hey, I am very familiar with 3.5e D&D but fed up with hack 'n' slash adventures, and making characters for their stats rather than personalities. I have been looking around the web for a website such as this, and I have read a few games on here and been watching the site as a guest over the past week, and it looks perfect.

In Regards to this thread I would be very interested in joining. I play Warhammer regurlarly with my housemate, writing 'fluff' or a backstory about our armies so hopefully i can adapt those skills to D&D roleplaying.

I am not sure of a class or race yet, but will be deciding and hopefully making a start on my characters backstory this evening.

Hope to be playing soon.

Brundel

welcome

youve come to the perfect place, we even have some games where its all about the characters, no stats whatsoever, we have tons of these laying around the freeform section.
also read pitf(r)iends new player guide, and try the frothy. and take a towel. i dont know if eol "introduces himself" in game threads, but take it just in case.

and almerin i stated i was going to be human. i shall be sending a char sheet in a bit.

Ah indeed

Yes, Riaucard, thanks for reminding me. It's been altered.

And Brundel, you're welcome to the game. First time on the site or not, it doesn't matter. I do require a full commitment though, and that goes for all the players. Once we start, I hope we can see this through to the end of the adventure.

Now you guys take your time to flesh out your characters. Make it something you really want to play.

Hooray!

Welcome aboard, Brundel! How did you find the Inn in your websearches for a site like this?

*dances* Tee hee! I'm very excited to be gaming with such fresh faces!

Alright, down to business, though it is short: mounts. Mounts? Have been working in a small area, or have we been trapsing around all over Antaron? The title of the recruitment leads me to believe that we might be going into a building.... so would we have an opportunity to stable said mounts before venturing here? Do we know that we are going to end up someplace were mounts aren't going to be able to come with us?

Am I asking too many player knowledge questions?

hmm

I would advice you not to look at the title too much. It obviously involves a structure, but this will not be a dungeon crawl. I would've probably advertised it as such if it had been the case.

As far as background is concerned, I already hinted that you are all very free to help create a realistic backstory for the party. You can invent experience in Khordal, Coria or every other Corner of Antaron, as long as it's within the limit of level. (In other words, don't invent that you've killed a red dragon, since that's just not something that would've happened). Keep it real, keep it fun.
