Avengers Review

Went to see The Avengers last night. If you're going to see it for what it is: a hollywood blockbuster with your favourite superheroes, it's really great.

It takes a moment to build momentum and to introduce the characters one by one. When they get together initially there is a lot of tension, some of which feels a bit unnatural / illogical. Doesn't diminish the fun however.
And when the big action does kick in... it's freaking awesome!

I honestly think the teaming up of superheroes couldn't have been done better. It flows quite smoothly with each of them getting equal screen time and in the final battle there are some inventive symbioses between them.

Oh, and the Hulk rocks. You won't understand that until you see what I'm talking about. Best part of the film.

If he wasn't already, writer/director Joss Whedon is one of the big boys now. I'm so very glad they didn't let John Favreau do this one.

Go see it.

Good to hear

I was planning on seeing it just because of the Joss Whedon factor. Good to know that it isn't a stinker though.

International Releases...

The releases internationally are all different so that the Hollywood folk can strut the red carpet multiple times.

yes

Used to be that films came out here long after the original release date. Now it's the other way around sometimes. I think it might also have to do with pirating.

Great ...

..... sounds like the comics when there would be conflict between the Super Heroes re: A Fight Among Them!

The original Avengers comic had Loki stirring up The Hulk to wreak havoc and attack his half brother Thor and that is how the Avengers were birthed in the Marvel Comics (with Iron Man and Giant Man and The Wasp).

Captain America did not debut until Avengers #4

A few years ago Marvel came out with a new Ultimate Avengers from which Nick Fury was Black and Captain America also used a hand gun!

I have read some of the comics that Josh Whedon wrote a few years ago, so am looking forward to this film!

Is it just me...

...or is anyone else more than a little disappointed at Cap's "modern" uniform? Granted, carrying over the WWII version he wore in Captain America: The First Avenger to modern times might have been a little weird, I guess, but it was so much a better look over all. The one he's wearing in The Avengers looks like some cluster-fungled mash-up of pajamas and Funderoos! :/

*shrugs*

Not that I'm gonna see this one for Cap, anyway, but still...

*nods*

I really wanna see this but the nearest movie theatre is a half hour away... and I'm too broke to justify spending that much money on gas and a couple hour's entertainment.

I'm upset about it, Eol. I thought his First Avenger costume was hot. Then they put him in spandex... *le sigh*

Still less sexy

Just sayin, I don't care if it is accurate to the comics.

Thanks, Kriea!

Glad I'm not the only one. I mean, everyone else's costume is pretty awesome, IMO... Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow (may I pause to say "rowr and hubba hubba"), even the Hulk... but you throw Cap's "updated" uniform in there and it sticks out like a sore thumb... or a tutu in a gunshow... or something...

I dinnae like it! I dinnae like it a LOT!

Hawkeye's costume...

...in the movie is patterned after Ultimate Avengers version, too (thanks for that costuming geniuses... much better than the baby-blue and purple stuff), but it looks good.

Cap's on the other hand (especially as compared to the uni her wore in his solo flick) just doesn't. :\\

Cap's customs

The reason behind the custom change is significant. It’s supposed to be a visual sign of his entering the modern world from a world still in the midst of WWII when he left. Yeah the custom is a little off from the one I knew as a kid but does it really matter? We get to see Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, the Hulk, Hawkeye and a Beautiful Redhead the Black Widow kick butt, what could be better then that.
