Website Crash!!!

This afternoon, our web server had a critical hardware failure. The webhost was able to get us back up in a matter of a couple of hours, but they had to restore from the weekly backup, which was on the 24th.

My own most recent copy of the site was on the 23rd.

This means that we have lost about three full days worth of data. The host says that they will try to retrieve data from the old server, but that may not be possible if there is a physical issue with, say, the hard drive(s).

I apologize for the issue, folks. Losing posts SUCKS.

Egadzooks!

Alas, this tragedy that hath befallen us! At least it was just part of a battle that got lost for us if it can't be recovered, and not some heavy roleplaying. Got the rough-and-quick overview of the battle elsewhere.

In other news, good to have things back up and running so quickly. Hope things work out for those who lost more relevant postages than we did.

Indeed.

I'm lucky in that I keep backups of my game posts.
Simple matter of pen and paper notebook, then scribed to computer notepad, then to site.

Tedious I suppose, but the change of thought is there. Also allows for editing.

Anyway, I'm, of course, sorry that such a crash occurred. At least now I know why I couldn't access the site earlier.

Ah

I thought as much, when I noticed posts had disappeared earlier today. Hopefully everyone has a copy of the important stuff elsewhere.

Pencil and paper and rock... wait, what game was this again?

That actually sounds like a pretty good way to do it. You always have an off-line log that is much easier to skip through for reference, plus you get a perfect edit buffer. Many a time have I put up a post only to notice that it would have been an awesome idea to re-read something and word it better or alter the flow of the sentence.

Of course, I'm just too lazy, more to the point. I do write everything up in Word, first, but I generally delete the writing after it's fully posted, and use it mostly as a back up against hitting submit and watching a post flush away.

Hmmm

I join and the website crashes shortly there after. I hope this is not a sign.

Had to rejoin this morning. ~Waits to see if it crashes again~

Heh...

...gotta love it! (Cuz it's either laugh or cry, sometimes, right?)

Could have been worse, I suppose... Three days of posts is better than losing everything a la 'The Great Crash' of 06.

Hooray for composing posts in Word and having backups, I guess.

yep

After the Great Crash, I set up my own backup system. Unortunately, I don't grab the backups every day - this is about to change.

Olan

You do a Great Job with this site!

I too type up my Game Posts in a document and keep them, but not so with my Q&A and other posts (most of the time!)

Logged on last night after being gone all day and evening and noticed the absence of several posts on the Prometheans Q&A, but did not check anything else!

Thanks for the explanation!

hmmm

This couldn't have happened during the recent ghost-town fase, of course.

It sucks, but I'm sure people will understand.

no kidding

When we had days where the last five topics barely moved at all? Nah, of course not.
