Keeper: Here's an idea for you...

Race: Cidal [Pick]

Class: Wizard (if you want the PC to be the bumbling bookish professor), Sorcerer (if you want his power to be more innate), Bard (if you are looking for more of the happy-wanderer/dappler of magic type)

The Wizard class knows the most spells, but has to select and memorize them. Intelligence in the key attribute, which also gives your character more skill points too.

The Sorcerer knows few spells, but can cast them lots of time/day and select which spell to cast on the fly. Charisma is the key attribute, which makes him more of a "face"-type character.

Both the Wizard and the Sorcerer get a animal familiar. Both have low hit point, few skill points (though the Wizard offsets this with a high Intelligence), one good save, no armor, and fewer weapon choices... their big deal is spells, right.

The Bard knows and cast few spells from a more limited spell list (Enchantment, Illusion and Divination mostly... with a few healing spells). He too can cast on the fly. Charisma is the key attribute. He gains more hit points, more skill point, has two good saves (instead of just one) and has some other abilities that help build up the group.

Funnily enough...

In regards to a Kender mage...

I have just finished reading the Dragonlance trilogy, and I believe in this book is the 'Red Dragon Inn' and also, more relevantly, involves Kenders. It was my impression that Kenders are very much like Halflings, so I am sure I can create a Halfling wizard/sorcerer for you.

I think a wizard would be best, as they tend to be a bit more 'bumbly' than sorcerers. As for roleplay feel free to play him as a Kender i.e very curious and irritating to the other players, however, he is not fearless!

Thanks very much for your help Ayrn!

random

If you really want to go random, you should play a Wild Mage. Look it up online, or read some of the info on Wild Magic here.

Fighter

Thank you Ayrn. I would like to be a Kobold if that species is in 3.5. Otherwise a human is good. I would like to be a fighter with a longsword and heavy shield. If possible, I would like him to have average intellegence.

A Kobold eh?

I have a problem...

If you want to play a Kobold why would he find himself guarding a human stronghold?

If you can find a good enough reason then I will let you play a Kobold, if not I am afraid you'll have to settle for a human

Kobolds past.

When I play a Kobold, generally a god has told him (or he thinks a god has told him) that he must become more civilized. If he thought by defending a stronghold would make him more civilized, he would die to do it. Another reason I could think of is he was adopted by humans when he was young. He was raised believing that he could help humans. Similar to the last past, he would be willing to die to defend the city. If these pasts don't work, I would be fine with playing a human.

I would Rather...

I would rather you played a human, I am afraid I just don't see why a human family would adopt a Kobold or, how a KObold would be accepted into society, even if a God had told him to be more 'civilised'

To be a human

No problem. My last Kobold Palaidn wasn't to well liked either, and was kicked out of multiple inns.

Kobold

Perhaps he offended a wizard who cast a spell on him so that he actually believes he is human and even sees himself as human in mirrors; everyone else still sees his true nature.

Your human fighter

SirSadaar,
When you say you want a sword and shield fighter, are you hoping he'll be more of a two-weapon fighting (using the shield to bash some skulls) or will he mostly be a sword fighter and the shield is just for defense? It will help me choose the right feats.

Awesome

SirSadaar,
Great! 3 more questions:

1) Do you want him to be more about brute strength, with powerful attacks... or more of a cunning fighting (disarming his foes and such).

2) Do you want him to be a horseman/knight of sorts (some skill in mounted combat)?

3) Do you want him to have very high strength and below average charisma, or average charisma and fairly high strength?
