Darkness Rises Q&A

Warning, this adventure is not for the goody two-shoes, evil doers are most welcome. There is an adventure to come, which I will be overseeing and playing the parts of all the NPCs. So if you post an action that affects others, character or NPC, state only your intended result and I will post the true result.

There are only a couple rules really:

Post to stay active in the game. If you stop posting and a week or more goes by and I don’t hear from you then your character may be left behind or if in the middle of combat, die.

The other rule deals with your character powers/abilities; try to keep them reasonable and possible. Have your character in mind and stay to what you know they can do. Don’t God-mode a character; meaning don’t create an all powerful, invincible character.

Try to keep most of your questions and talk to the Q&A and not in the game thread. Ask questions if you have them.

Thank you for reading!

~Aryn

Four questions... forgive me, I'm new at freeform...

Aryn,

Hey! Thanks for the cool intro. Four questions:

1) One, if you had to give a "rating" to the type of characters you think would be best suited to this game, would you say characters should be -
a. "Newbies", out for their first adventure? [DnD = Level 1-3]
b. "Been around the block once or twice", maybe had two - four adventures, maybe known in their village [DnD = Level 4-6]
c. "Well-seasoned", maybe made a name for themselves in their surrounding countryside, good at what they do, maybe a magic item or two, got some cool moves [DnD = Level 7-10]
d. "Almost-Perfected", known throughout the country, almost a master at their craft, gone on more adventures then they can recount [DnD = Level 11-14]
e. Don't matter none, it will be fine.

2) This is a game for evil doers?

3) Can you give a small bit more on the basic plot of this adventure? Like "this will be a dungeon-crawl tyoe adventure looking for something lost" or "this will be a political intigue kind of adventuire, with the character looking to set a plan in motion to overthrow the government" or something like that...

4) What are the characters to the white-skinned woman? Are we meeting her at the tavern? Are we "friends", "rivals", "(potential) employees", or random strangers?

Thanks,
Ayrn

The game is free-form

No DnD edition, this is free-form... my post was meant only as a reference point for "power level". I hope I didn't confused anyone.

Answers, hopefully!

Ayrn,

I will try to answer your questions, bare with me as I don’t know rules-based games:

1) I would have to say a rating of C is what we are looking for here. Well seasoned.

2) Yes evil or those that are more out for themselves than anything, kind of like a thief who is more interested in what they can get than good or bad.

3) Well I don’t want to give anything away, but the basics are to gather a couple people to assist with a venture to obtain something. Don’t want to give more away. Some killing for sure, maybe some intrigue!

4) I would have to say random strangers at starts, maybe seeing a common theme, maybe some have ran into or heard of the other.

Takley,

Yes, as Ayrn said no DnD edition, straight free-form. I would say it is Medium level magic. I don’t want god-like powerful, but capable of killing people relatively easy.

Hope that answers all your questions so far. Look forward to seeing some posts.

~Aryn, not to be confused with Ayrn.

I plan to post tomorrow...

I have a fey sorcerer-type in mind... though, I can be persuaded to bring a roguish or wicked priest if someone else is thinking of bringing a magic-user in. (Not sure, Almerin, if you were serious about the evil wizard; or where you were going, Takley, with your question about magic.) Chime in with what you guys are thinking.

a dagger of sorts

imagine the dagger that matt found in shadar logoth(wheel of time) that inflicts wounds that can only be healed by magic, inflicts a festering wound that only only grows worse. That is what I was thinking, a single magic weapon for a *ahem* rogue.

also, it is nice to know the commen-ness of magic so either of your two can play them with more effectiveness.

Excellent

Neat idea with the magic item. And thanks for clarifying what you were after with your magic questions... I was afraid we'd all be going Harry Potter.

yep

I was serious. I'm going to play an evil wizard who has been retired for years.

Doesn't mean you can't be a fey sorcerer. I'm sure they'll be quite different personalities.

characters

Takley,

I like what you are saying there, if you play a rogue type character, it would be good as we would need his skills, especially if there are 3 wizard types.

Almerin, your volley!

Almerin

You can continue or wait if you wish, others may join when they are ready. This type of setting, they don’t all have to be here to get some simple harmless conversation going.
