Guaging Interest

I've been lurking for a while now, hoping that the game I was in will pick back up, doesn't seem that it is though.

At this point I feel the need to go ahead and plan something new to occupy my time and give my creativity a chance to flow.

My brother, who isn't even a table-top gamer, brought to my attention a fan-made ruleset to add Final Fantasy flavor and fun to a D&D3.5 or Pathfinder game, something that immediately got my attention. "You mean I can combine my love of dice and Final Fantasy games?! I'm in!!" The rules can be found here. I will be using PF as the core, just so that's clear, that means feats, skills, etc will be based off PF pre-reqs and skill rank limitations etc.

As is standard with Final Fantasy games I am willing to take on multiple players with many different character concepts. And like a FF game PCs will drop and return at a whim, allowing us to move forward fairly easily if the dreaded RL Beast snatches a player or 2. I would prefer that for classes we stick with the class options provided in the FF20 rules, unless previously discussed and agreed on. I am going to be more flexible with race selection though as any FF fan will know there is no set races or limits in the FF Universe. One particular game may feature 95% humans where another game features a slew of oddball races that sometimes look like a 5 year old drew the concept art before it was refined and made into something clean by a pro. I still maintain the right to approve or deny any particular race, class, or concept at my discretion.

I don't want to give too much about the story away at this point, because like many FF games this will be highly focused on story and character development. If you'd be interested and willing to try to make this game epic as can be then let me know. I'm thinking starting level of 4, no multi-classing (I have something else planned that I'll get into if I get enough interest).

I'm a firm believer that every PC should start at the same basic ability level, so I prefer to roll the stats for my games, that way one person doesn't end up with 3 18s and another person gets no higher than 15. For this game scores will be 12, 16, 14, 14, 13, 17 before racial modifiers, and in true FF fashion I will be doing away with carrying limits for this game.. you will still need a pack and all that fun stuff though. Starting funds have been set at 800 gil, and each character will be assigned a specific Trait determined by myself based on their backstory with it's own perks and drawbacks.

Silly me...

I knew I forgot something; Pathfinder SRD for your viewing pleasure!

Also, I'm more than happy to work with any player to translate a character concept over to the rules. Just shoot me a PM if you need help.

Im so used to 2nd E. that its complex for me. But I can understand character sheets. Would it be possible for you and I to discuss a character concept via Private Messages and you pre-gen one for me? If not, I fully understand.

If I ever get internet back at my house, instead of having to travel to use it, I am all over this.

bump

Well Ches, it's likely to be a slow game, as I work all day M-F and most of my weekends are spent with my daughter, so if you really want in then a delay in your posts won't really make that big a difference to me.

Let's see if I can generate some interest!

Seeing as how this has had little interest expressed I have decided I need to go ahead and release some more snippets of information to hopefully grab some attention. I'm still up in the air about which game world to actually base the game in, I'm leaning toward Ivalice though as it is a fairly established world. But again I haven't fully made up my mind.

And now for a story snippet!
**********
There are those who say that the only absolute is that nothing is absolute. Kingdoms rise and fall, Heroes are raised up on mighty pedestals just to come crashing down, villains will rise up to terrorize the populace only to either be struck down or to learn the error of their ways and repent. Nothing, they say, lasts forever.. if only they knew how wrong they really were...

Ancient texts speak of the God of Discord, Chaos, and his many attempts to wreak havoc on the very threads of existence. Across countless time frames and parallel universes this dark entity has attempted to turn reality itself into his own personal plaything, only to be thwarted time and time again by the Chosen Warriors of the Goddess of Harmony, Cosmos. Once again Chaos is up to his old tricks, tearing rifts into the very fabric of the world. New Heroes will have to rise up to protect us all.. New Champions of Cosmos must rise to the challenge or we are all doomed!
**********

I will go ahead and add real quickly that I do already have one character in, a Ronso Brawler (Unarmed Fighter) and in order to try to get things going I would prefer at least 2 more players, but I'll settle for one more and pick up new "Heroes" as the journey progresses like any good FF game.

It takes me back...

Final Finatasy was what first got me into any interest in this line of stuff. I'd love to play. I can't promise more than one or two posts a week, I hope that's okay.

As to character generation, I'd need a minute to look everything over. But if I think back to the video games the wierdo caller summoner ladies were always my favorites, so it'll probably be something along those lines... cool?

And to follow up...

I'm feeling a little blocked with coming up with ideas for this scenario. I'm going to respectfully back down, I don't want to hold up your game development. If something does come to mind I'll get in touch to see if there's any room in the game. Good luck.

ah yes

I'm with you on that point Nimu, the original NES 8-Bit Final Fantasy is what started it all for me, what really created my love of roleplaying games, and despite clearly showing it's age the game is still one of my all time favorites. Would be good to have another fan throw their lot in with us, so I hope you'll reconsider dropping out. Could use someone to sling spells, and a summoner certainly fits that bill, though a healer would probably be nice as well. (After double checking, it appears that summoners have a couple healing spells, even better)

Poll

So players and friends, I'm kinda stuck on which game map to use for this game. So this is your chance to offer up your suggestions and have your input possibly sway my opinion one way or another. Would you like to visit familiar locales, regions from previous games, would you prefer a custom made map, or even a melding of maps from various games? Let me know...

well

My personal feelings, the map from FF9 was impressive to me, and it has been so long I can hardly remember it, so I personally would have no advantage in that area.

QA Up

I've started getting the information put up on the QA thread, I'm getting to it as best I can, I've just stopped to decide what I want to eat...
