tek informs me

he's only waiting on me.. I'm gonna give him my characters name and gender so he can at least get an opening post up if everyone's so rearing to go. I wont be able to work on my character fully until tomorrow-wednesday dependant on work.

WOW

Things getting underway, but I will not have my Back Story fleshed out until I get an understanding of the layout of the land with a Map or more info!

What he said. Luckily, mine can be made later, as little of it would be revealed before we get a ways into it.

Geography

Unfortunately, I don't have a map I'm able to put up on here. Never was able to get my maps on here. However, that's never caused any game issues in the past, so I'll just have to write it up.

Backstory

Hmmm, I enjoy a good backstory but I often fail to see the need of one prior to playing. I am of an old school of 2nd Edition where we often sat down and rolled up characters in 15 mins and then began play on a new adventure. The characters were comprised on the spot and the other players and the DM learned of what the character was made of during the course of the game. I guess that is why I find the 'need' of a backstory to be a strange concept.

But to each their own; if it helps someone to play their character by having a written backstory so much the better. I dont fault anyone for their own beliefs. I always have a concept of my character in my head, and the character I submitted to Tek I have played several times before so I already know how she will play.

So Tek, dont wait for a backstory from me as I like to keep things a mystery, but since you already seen my character I imagine you can guess some of the mannerisms of my character.

Just MHO! For what it is worth.

Well said

I'm very inclined to agree with Teller here. A backstory can be good, but it's not so important as to hold things up. Especially not when the group is a mere second level. It would be a touch more critical around the level five and up range. I'll always welcome some history on a character, but as far as I'm concerned for starting purposes, having a simple concept that you run off me, and then build the hell out of it in-game could make a much more interesting character growth

Work on it and submit later as you like, but for getting rolling, it's probably the least important element of your character information that we need.

If it helps any...

I wrote up a short backstory based on the descriptions of the lands in Tek's world setting; I used his description of Haervath and Irvala, along with their history of war and recently-found peace, to piece my character's past, present and his motivations together. I figure each of us could be from pretty much anywhere described therein, and the initial storytelling can piece together how we ended up in the same place to adventure together. Just my 2 copper pieces' worth.

The party

A question; has this party adventured together before or is this a new gathering of Daring Do-Gooders? Kind of thinking on my first introduction during my lunch break and wondering about that as it will have an impact on my first post.

Prior knowledge

The idea I had in mind was a potential bring-together, though if you feel like it, you can chat amongst yourselves before we roll out and see if there's somebody you'd like to know before the game actually begins. I have no issue with previous friendships or partnerships having been made.

Party

Personally, I wouldnt mind knowing at least one of the group, but I kind of like the idea of a new group gathering to set off on dangerous adventures together and getting to know each other.

So, I would like to have my character know one other character; any takers?

Be wary, my character is not an easy one to know.

Tek - If we do forge previous friendships, can we discuss our characters generally amongst acquaintenances in PMs? Nothing too detailed, just general appearance, mannerisms, maybe determine exactly how well we know each other? Those sort of things.

Feel free

If somebody bites on your invite, then you're free to divulge whatever you wish. However! Knowing somebody in advance does not entitle you to their attributes and the like. Teller nailed it; personality, appearance, tendencies, etc. Things like that are all fine, and discussion by PM works just as well.

Also, for RP elements throughout the game, if you want to have a big dialogue or something with another player, rather than just post by post, players may work together via PM and write their dialogue as they go. Then, if a post is to be made for both, whoever shall author it just please specify that its the combined effort of both players

Loner...so far

My character is making his way into the world from his homeland for the first time, so given his background it's unlikely he would be friends with any other characters yet. Not being uppity by any means, it's just that he has spent pretty much his entire life at war, fighting for and with his clan. But now he's a warrior without a war, so he's decided to become an adventurer.

Understood

No problem, Duncan. I understand what you are saying. No one has to know any other character if that is what everyone thinks. I thought it might be cool, but not necessary.
