Star Trek Into Darkness

Will just say that I enjoyed watching this film this afternoon and that it is worth viewing by anyone who is entertained by any type of Star Trek saga!

Interesting...

I must say that I was a mite let down by the 2009 reboot of the original Star Trek series. Something about it just didn't work for me; the characters just didn't seem... real. I'm a big fan of the original 1960s series; perhaps I'm just a oldie.
However, I'm quite willing to give Into Darkness a try. I'm not letting my interest die quite yet. What kind of features did it have over the last?

Plot and Characterization

I used to watch Star Trek on Friday nights when I was in high school and the episodes were original run and not re-runs!

I too, had a difficult time wrapping my mind around the reboot of familiar characters, but this movie had a well thought out plotline and the characterizations were far superior than the last movie (in my humble opinion!)

This movie was not one I was looking forward to with great anticipation, but I am glad my friend talked me into going to see it this afternoon!

Was not a waste of my time or money!

Really enjoyed it

I grew up watching the original series as reruns and of course watched the Star Trek TNG, Voyager and DS9 series in the 80"s and 90's. The first reboot was exactly that; a reboot, and no-one gets greatness from a computer when it's re-initializing

Now that the characters have been re-introduced, however, the plot-line can begin to emerge, and Abrams does that with this movie, while also lining up the premise for future films (that five year mission, of course). Without giving away any spoilers, I enjoyed the tension between the characters, and Pine taking his own path on Kirk (defiant, courageous, finding his balance between rebel and Captain) is a pleasure to watch. Some people may find Quinto's take on Spock too much a departure, but I find Spock's human/Vulcan struggle interesting. Without it, the character could too easily be mistaken for Lt. Commander Data

The action was almost to fast to take in at a 3D viewing, but that may be these old eyes, and I am certainly likely to go again (and maybe again) to take in what I missed the first time.

My only disappointment? The 'new" science officer, who's name still escapes me. Really only served as a minor plot twist and eye candy for the male audience/Kirk. A rather gratuitous "almost nude but this is PG" scene felt contrived and was completely pointless (maybe the guys will disagree ).

Cumberbatch? Simply amazing...and I won't say anything more

All right then.

Vanadia, your review also helped me a lot; it sounds like J.J. Abrams is kind of getting the hang of Star Trek and its reboots. I'd be interested in seeing Quinto's improvement on Spock as well, as I was rather disappointed with him in the last one... but I am rather critical. Thank you so much!
