muse for writing?

i've been wondering, i know dangerous. what do you listen to/use while writing? do you need silence to concentrate?

i've been using song tracks from two steps from hell or instrumentals ost. i love the epic gripping tones that wisk you along with your pen/keys.

Music

It very strongly depends on what I'm writing, but I tend to listen to a lot of Depeche Mode when I'm writing. It's focus music for me and I can't even explain why.

Music

I do love listening to music while I am writing and even more when I am drawing, which is what I do much more of anyhow. Maybe I should post something to RDI. The desk at which I draw at always has a computer upon it, and I largely use YouTube for my listening pleasures.

My favourite bands include Pink Floyd (Animals and Dark Side of the Moon in particular), SYRSA, Dethklok (call me lame), and miscellaneous bits and bites I've heard and liked around the scene. The styles I prefer most often include oldies stuff, like Tangerine Dream, Elton John, and the Beach Boys; but I do love me some techno and some good ol' rock n' roll. Much less of a fan of much of the stuff playing nowadays (though I am certainly not a hipster!).

I find that the drawings and other artstuffs I do lack something when I perform without sound. Even the hum of a fan in the background is better than silence. It's always fun to turn on my speakers when the folks aren't around and blast something good in the presence of nobody else; something I don't do often for my sake.

Hey, that epic sort of stuff is a ton of fun!

Compositional Tracks

Two Steps from Hell is a terrific addition to writing, and used to most frequently be mine (Particularly Archangel, Protectors of the Earth, and Dragon Rider)

But... My own personal preference is Valentin Wiest, followed up by Ivan Torrent and Adrian von Ziegler. Each serves their own purpose for what I'm working on

And sometimes...just sometimes... When I really need to just cruise along on something, Elliott Brood will do the trick. Heh..

hmmm..

I can't honestly say I have silence or music. I kind of drift off into my own fantasy world, as if it were a movie playing in my head. I have to see what I'm writing or it just doesn't flow for me. I'm a very visual person, so I have music playing in the background and have my daughter muttering noises or whatever you call it lol. I usually am focused on what I write to the extend I drown out all the music and don't even realize if it stops playing.

Well...

I will sometimes listen to music while I write, but I write just as well without. When I do listen to music while I write, I often use the Star Wars soundtrack (especially when I write/ work on Star Wars stuff) or faster paced songs. The only thing I have to watch out for is sometimes the music affects my writing!
