Ha Ha Still Not Clear

Still not clear about my Character/Minion/Sidekick and how to arrange the Points and Skills and Whatever Elses!

So I am now headed to Wizard's Asylum in Tulsa to purchase the M&M 3rd Edition Heroes Handbook so I have an actual 'Book' to read, instead of trying to figure everything out from the Online Link Skari sent me!

Should be able to get my guy done tonight.

Decided against the speedster, got too angry and just doing things fast.

Not even sure what that means, but I'm a robot now.

Hmmmmmm

I am completely starting over from 'Scratch' to develop my Zilver Wreker Character and his Sidekick Father Brian O'Brien and their Sanctum Sanctorum

Will try to get the Points where I understand them and then pass them on to Skari-dono for approval and comfirmation!

Waiting on Ruling from Skari-dono

I have revamped my approach to Creating my Character and have sent Skari-dono the following:

Sanctum Sanctorum with Upgrades

Large Car with Added Features

Sidekick Father Brian O'Brien including his Abilities, Advantages & Skills

I am awaiting a Ruling from the GM regarding the Cost of the Weapons & Costume (Devices)for the Zilver Wreker, so I know exactly how many Power Points will remain to Create My Character

Until I get a Ruling on the Cost for Devices

From what I can figure out from pages 157 - 169 on the Devices in Chapter 7: Gadgets & Gear the following is what I am going to deduct, until I get a Ruling from our GM:

Silver Brass Knuckles = 1 Power Point (assuming one for each Fist)

Silver Bowie Knife = 2 Power Points

Silver Heavy Pistols with Silver Bullets = 8 Power Points x 2 will cost 16 Power Points

So I want to have Bullet Proof Cloth to armor his costume and since Full Plate costs 6 Power Points and a Bullet Proof Vest costs 3 Power Points [page 169] I am going to deduct another 11 Power Points

Total Deduction is 30 Power Points for Devices

Bullet Proof Cloth (my Sidekick has a 1 Rank for Inventor) will include covering the following:

Bullet Proof Cloth Shirt

Bullet Proof Cloth Leather Jacket

Bullet Proof Cloth Pants

Bullet Proof Cloth Boots

Bullet Proof Cloth for the Holsters carrying the 2 Heavy Pistols, the Bowie Knife and the Brass Knuckles

Bullet Proof Cloth for Hooded Cowl & Mask

Proceeding with Character Creation as follows:
I am reserving the 30 Power Points for the Bullet Proof Cloth Costume and Device Weapons + the 11 Power Points allocated for the (Equipment Points) for the Sanctum Sanctorum, Large Car & Sidekick

120 Power Points - 41 Power Points = 79 Power Points remaining for the Creation of my Character including the Abilities, Powers, Advantages and Skills

I will proceed with this 79 Point Allocation later tonight, until I have to make any adjustments from a Ruling by our GM

Hammer

Hey Hammer,

Here's a couple of questions for you as you create your character:

1) Are you still going with the Insubstantial 4 [Incorporeal] power? If so, do you want to be able to use your weapons while Incorporeal?

2) I think your "costume" is a good one. I think you might be able to make some, if not all, your weapons Alternative Effects to your Silver Pistols... Not sure what I'd call it... maybe, Silver Weapons? Or Weapons' Belt?

It would qualify as a "Device", so:

Device: Silver Weapons array (max 12 points to spent on each effect) * Silver Pistols - Blast 4 with Multi-targeting extra [cost 12 pp]
* Alternative Effect: Silver Knife - Strike 6 with Penetrating 6 extra [cost 1 pp]
* Alternative Effect: Silver Knuckledusters - Strike 6 with Penetrating 6 extra [cost 1 pp]
* Removable flaw [-1 pp / 5 pp of Device = 14/5 = -3]
* Total Cost for Silver Weapons = 11 pp

Your silver weapons only work against corporeal targets, and only when you are corporeal too. They can only be taken away when you are both stunned and defenseless. You can also use extra effort with your weapons.

If you want them to affect corporeal targets and incorporeal targets whether you are corporeal or not, you would need to apply the Affect Corporeal and Affect Incorporeal extras.

So...

Device: Silver Weapons array (max 18 points to spent on each effect) * Silver Pistols - Blast 4 with Affect Corporeal 4, Affect Incorporeal 2, and Multi-targeting extras [costs 18 pp]
* Alternate Effect: Silver Knife - Strike 5 with Accurate 1, Affect Corporeal 5, Affect Incorporeal 2, Penetrating 5 extra [costs 1 pp]
* Alternate Effect: Silver Knuckledusters - Strike 5 with Accurate 1, Affect Corporeal 5, Affect Incorporeal 2, Penetrating 5 extra [costs 1 pp]
* Removable flaw [-1 pp / 5 pp of Device = 20/5 = -4]
* Total Cost for Silver Weapons = 16 pp

This would allow you to use your weapons against corporeal and incorporeal targets regardless of your form.

The damage effect is a little less on the knife and the knuckledusters, but you gain a +2 bonus to attack with them (thanks to the Accurate extra). You still need to keep within the Power Level limits, so with a damage effect of 5, your attack bonus cannot be more than +11 (including the bonus you gain from Accurate)

Alternatively, you may want to consider a different effect for your silver knuckledusters, seeing at the do basically the same thing as the knife... maybe an Affliction effect... like punching someone with your dusters dazes/stuns/incapacitates them out?

If you like that idea, the Alternative Effect would instead read:

* Alternative Effect: Silver Knuckledusters - Affliction 5 [Dazed/Stun/Incapacitate] with Accurate 1, Affect Corporeal 5, Affect Incorporeal 2, and Cumulative extras.

Could be fun!

Actually...

If you are Incorporeal you need the Affect Corporeal Modifier, which has a flat cost but still has ranks. While you're Incorporeal, any effect that has this modifier is limited by the modifier's rank.

So, for example, if you have Blast 5 with the Affect Corporeal modifier at 2 ranks, your Blast only works at 2 while you are Incorporeal (against corporeal targets, that is). If you want to make full use of your attacks, you need to spend a few more points (not much I think).
Of course, I don't know if they changed this in the revised rules, so if anyone has that I'd like to know if there's a difference.

As for the rest of your character, I can't see anything wrong with him so far. I approve of the Sidekick, Sanctum Sanctorum and Vehicle, although you might want to consider some features for the Sanctum (which you can add later if you like). Extra thumbs up for the inventing pastor
The best thing about Devices is that you can keep them as powerful as the Power Level limit of the game allows, i.e. you are not limited by the Equipment your buy with EP. The removable bit is a flat cost of -1 per 5 power points for the device. The cost is -2 per 5 PP if the device is easily removed (such as with most hand-held devices).

For example, a device that has a total cost of 20 PP, you would divide 20 with 5 to figure out the refund for the removable flaw. You always figure out the removable flaw's refund after you've applied all other modifiers and flaws. Regarding arrays, I believe the removable flaw applies to the array's total cost, and not individual power/effect within the array (although the cost shouldn't change that much). Not sure though, since I don't have the revised rules and I don't know if they clarified it there.

Incorporeal

Hey Skari-dono,
When you are Incorporeal, can your effects affect other incorporeal targets or do you need the Affect Incorporeal extra(s) in order to affect them?
Thanks!

hmm...

Doesn't say in my book, so I'm ruling that you can affect others of same Insubstantiality normally. Affecting anything more substantial needs modifiers, as does affecting anything less substantial.

Creating the Silver Weapons Array

Hammer,

One option for your Silver Weapons Device, then, would be to create Alternate Effects for when you are Incorporeal and when you are not. Something like:

Device: Silver Weapons Array * Main Effect - Silver Pistols: Multi-targeting Blast 5 with Affect Corporeal 5 and Pentrating 5 extras (costs 25 pp)

* Alternative Effect - Silver Pistols: Multi-targeting Blast 6 with Affect Incorporeal 1 and Pentrating 6 extras (costs 1 pp)

When you're incorporeal, you affect both corporeal and incorporeal equally well with your pistols(DC 20). When you are corporeal, your pistols do a bit more damage to other corporeal targets (DC 21), but less to incorporeal targets (DC 1.

You could continue down the list for each of your other weapons (knife, knuckledusters), creating alternate effects for each of them as part of the device.

Peace,
Ayrn

Spare Power Points ???

If anyone has a Spare Power Point to Contribute some Equipment Points to a Headquarters there is plenty of room and it could use a Gym plus other accessories!
