Upcoming improvements to the Inn

Hey guys,

I wanted to let you all know that I definitely replacing the old flickerchat very soon. I have a working prototype of a modern, jQuery/AJAX chat that doesn't require the old "three frames in a page" method.

Also, I am looking at some big forum enhancements - namely, a WYSIWYG editor (so you can highlight text to bold, italicize, link, etc), and perhaps a new view - a page that simply lists ALL topics, with the most recently updated at the top, with the ability for you to filter out forum categories that you don't care to see.

no no

I have seen a few examples of RPG sites that now have forums where you can play online in real time with webcams. There is an area for the maps and characters etc etc. But I figure that is heavy duty coding. On the other hand, it would be a revenue stream.

Webcams...

...will inevitably lead to the "Alacrity Fitzhugh's Nekkid Happy Dance Hoedown Channel," methinks.

Make it so!

...

I'm glad to hear that there are going to be updates to the site. I think that it is a phenomenal idea, that can only be good.

And I know that we chat gamers would love to do away with flicker chat.

Inn-provements (zing!)

I am all for these ideas (assuming the chat will be replaced, not just removed >.>), but in the RPG sites I've seen, most of the webcam-like stuff and related has always been done through an independent program, such as MapTool (I'm not sure if that one has a webcam function but I'm pretty sure it can do text chat and mic shenanigans).

I can link you to many an RPG forum site that has it all "down" so to speak.

A problem I've had on here is that I can't edit the name of a thread after it's posted. Like, I forgot to make a short name for one I recently just started, and now it's stuck up there on the updated topics section as "Requesting Opinions on Hou". It irks me XD

Also, TheTangledWeb.com is a website that allows people to advertise games like we do here in the recruiting forums, but it's perfectly acceptable for a site member to go and pretty much just advertise a forum site like this. Do you think we should do that?

Actually

This was a thing I did like a dozen times before I got my Kingmaker thread's short name to display in the most aesthetically pleasing way imaginable. If I recall correctly, you can edit the topic's short name by scrolling down to the very bottom left of the page and clicking 'Edit Topic'. There are a few useful functions in there that you generally don't need on a daily basis, so even I almost forgot where to find it.

That's correct!

If you own the topic, you an edit it from the link at the bottom of any page of said topic.

Off Line..........

I do most of writing off line using word then copy paste it to the text body box. I'm never quite sure how it will look until it's up and then I may have to edit more. If the text box was bigger so it was more like a word doc and closer to the thread page size we could see how it will look posted.

Now dumb question from a non programer, is spell check a hard thing to add?

One of the main reasons I do most of my stuff off line is for spell ckeck but I still mess up a lot because I never learned to type properly. I'm a key watcher so I miss what really got typed until I reread. Then I'll rush and read what was supposed to be there. And don't get me started on how bifocals tunnel vision and mess with your rereading.
