Silent: Rapid Shot, yeah. That thing did some real damage, haha!

Impulse: It's a concentration check, but yes. The leader is in light blue.

As a word of warning, there is something called a "Ready Action" (don't know if that's in 5e) and will take place just before the action that triggers it. So choose wisely.

water

Alright folks, how do we react to the water demands this time?

I don't want to lose the water - but it seems like a false threat. They need it as much as we do. The threat to the old man is real enough. If the water was destroyed, what would a delay to go back to town for more mean? Is that possible? There is likely no negotiation here. A promise to save the girl mage might be worth something if we did negotiate. (Assuming she can still be saved, his post suggested it, but didn't confirm.) Stopping would cost us the advantage of the blindness spell.

DM: Clearly Dax can still see the guy kneeling by his love. Can I see anyone else? I'll check the map as well, but last time some were close in and I couldn't see them, so I want to be sure.

Also, the leader is right inside the shelter - sort of. She looks to be on the edge. Could Dax come down off the roof onto her? Or is she too far under? How big is the drop? Could he jump down and shoot at her from behind? the gold circle I assume is the blindness spell - does that hold any further threat to anyone who enters that space?

aight

Someone explain concentration spells to me please, how many spells can i have at a time, jsut realized that shelliagh and entangle are both concentration spells in 5E that means that entangle would go away.

Another thing is, Idk if they are bluffing, if they're the type of guys like "If I can't have it then no one can.".
I was thinking of casting mist, preventing them from targeting the cart.. but the mage is already blinded. Could she accurately aim at the cart?

For future ref, does Geoff have light armour? I was thinking in the future before a fight I could cast cats graces and (I think) it gives a plus 4 bonus to dex, increasing AC by a crap ton

Knock'em dead

We'd have to see where the old cleric is to make a decision, but all of the baddies appear to be pretty occupied at the moment.

I doubt negotiations are possible at this point. The leader is only making the threat because they are in a threatened situation. Not saying she doesn't have something ready, but she's been blinded for 2 rounds and will continue to be blind. Her ability to target all of the water barrels seems low (if we think of accuracy, that's even lower).

I'd say we take a few of them out, then try and keep one alive for questions. We have clerics to replace the water, and going a night without it won't kill us. Let's see where the other cleric is.

Impulse: Entangle is not a concentration spell

Schnozzle: Wrote the Xana moved to take cover by the cart. Is there more than one? Or is she slowed too much by the entangle spell?
Also, what is your rule on swarms. Would it be a 4 square swarm? THANKS!

Hm..

Even if they did destroy the water.. isn't there some spell to actually cleanse the water? If so, couldn't we use that to get pure water?

THE PREVIOUS MAP UPDATE HAS BEEN ALTERED.
Xana has been properly moved and the priest was added back to the map.
Nomad:
1) You can see the man and his fallen love as well as the priest. The leader is standing right under the edge, you can see her but only in part.

2) The drop there is approximately 5 feet as noted in the original map (I dropped the numbers to make the map easier to read).

3) If you intend to land on her it would be some kind of acrobatic move, as landing right on her by jumping straight down is impossible.

4) The gold circle is glitterdust, it's a settling cloud of sparkling dust but that longer holds the threat of blindness.

Impulse:
A) A spell which requires concentration is usually listed as Duration: Concentration + X rounds.

B) Neither of those spells have such a duration.

C) You may only concentrate on one spell at a time unless it is otherwise noted in the spell.

D) http://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/concentration.htm

E) If she is using a spell to target the cart or barrels, all she has to do is to form a vivid image of the target in her mind.

F) Light Armor. Yes. +4 Bonus to dex would create a +2 bonus to initiative and AC.

Nimu:
i) I updated the map. Thanks for pointing that out.

ii) Xana is slowed to 15 ft of movement. She is headed for the cart but didn't reach it.

iii) A creature swarm occupies a square (if composed of nonflying creatures) or a cube (if composed of flying creatures) 10 feet on a side. Its reach is 0 feet. A swarm does not threaten creatures in its square and cannot make attacks of opportunity with its swarm attack.

Silent:

a) Yes, there is the spell called Purify Food/Drink. Clerics use it regularly to cleanse collected rainwater.

b) Yes, you could

Clerics, Barrels and spells, oh my

What do you mean we have no PCs that are clerics? We brought two with us - they are hiding in the innards of the shelter. Plus there is the old man they brought with them. That would be 3. (Clarification - no PCs. One druidy type. But NPCs)

Clearly having the water destroyed would be a bad thing, but I am actually more concerned about the barrels. Water we can purify - or the clerics can anyway. We just stick them out in the rain and let them fill up. But if we have no barrels to hold water it is more of an issue. Still, once we got to the other town, as long as the clerics are with us they could make water there, right? We won't die of dehydration in a day. What this means is that losing the water is bad, but not something that would ruin everything. I think.

Ok, another thought - someone mentioned keeping someone alive and I like that idea. I strongly suggest the lover kneeling over his lost love. If she can be saved with a heal spell ("lifes blood flowing out" was the line. not "dead on the spot.") the guy will be angry at us for hurting her, but also owe us for saving her. A bit of leverage. At the very least he is someone we know cares about normal human things. So I like him. So, if possible, we need to finish this quickly and then heal her. He is also wounded already (twice?)and thus a bit less of a threat.

Finally, I think Daxos will do whatever he can to prevent the leader from damaging the water. I don't think he can jump on her exactly, and he isn't the biggest weight to have hit someone anyway. But he should be able to drop right behind her and stick a sword in her. She won't see him coming. My hope is that between dropping down and hacking her that he can disrupt any spell she is casting. Spcecifically he will try to take out her legs or in some way surprise her and take her to the ground. Again, spell distruption is the goal. Speak up if this doesn't make sense.

Two more questions for the DM:

1. I know we haven't inspected her since the fighting began, but given how she looks and how you run the game, might the wounded mage still be revivable with a healing spell? It is likely the clerics who came with us would have such a spell, isn't it?
2. Another question on exactly how you run the game, as this has varied based on the DM in question and the specific game system. Daxos would probably switch to his shortsword if he jumps down. Can he do that and jump at the same time? Also, his primary goal is to disrupt whatever spell she might be casting. Damage, while also nice, is secondary. Would knocking her down have a chance of disrupting whatever spell she was casting? Can he grab his shortsword, jump down and hack at her legs - or even hack as he is jumping, presumably hitting her back, not her legs. Given her blindness and likely cluelessness as to his existence, or at least no chance of knowing he was coming, would he get a bonus on his attack? I guess I'm not sure if "sword, jump, attack" is too many things for one round or not.

0. You are correct about the "life's blood" thing. I will be treating enemies, NPCs and PCs with the same rules for death. You will need to either coup de gras enemies, let them bleed out, or hit them so hard they die immediately.

1. Yes. Definitely.

2. You can move and change weapons with the same move action, because your hands aren't tied to your feet. He can jump and change weapons at once. That's his move action, and he then has an attack. If the timing were right, yes he could stand a chance of disrupting the spell. Hacking and jumping. Yeah, I'll rule of cool that if that's your plan. As for bonuses, you're all already benefiting from the blindness (-2 to AC, -Dex Bonus to AC). And yes, you have a chance to damage her.

I guess...

Taking out the leader in this case would not deter the rest.. if they're that bent on getting water.. So we have to find a way to end the conflict without losing anything or anyone on our side..

It's figuring out a way to do both without those barrels blowing up in our faces..

druid

I have spell that allows me to create water, my char doesn't know that but he's going to figure it out soon. It's just that nozzle said that there's a resisted roll I think on whether or not it actually works.

@Nomad. I like your plan. If you can disrupt the mage and then we can quickly go heal the injured woman.

And everyone thanks for answering my questions!

Edit: I guess I'm just going to post, I won't act out on my own too much and I'll leave room to edit.

Of Blindness and Swarms

Thanks for clarifying, Noz.

Before I post want to clarify; if I summon a swarm then it means it would only take up one square? So that means the swarm only attacks a single target (unless two take up the same square)? So it would be possible to summon and swarm into a square with an enemy target and not have it attack an ally in the adjacent square? Sorry, nothing is clear about size of the swarm summoned. I've seen 4 squares and one square.

I'm also hoping to get a little understanding about blindness and spell casting. This will affect a few of us, so good to get an understanding now that the situation presents us. The way I understood things was that blindness does not inhibit spell casting but does affect the ability to target. Target spells all become touch spells. Area affect spells can be cast as normal, but accuracy in where the spell is released is greatly affected. This is made worse if the blinded spell caster moves at all. So I know the general direction of the area I want to target and its distance from my body - I might be off by a bit but I can still get pretty close. However, if I move, the layout of the land (so to speak) has shifted as has my own orientation and sense of space. So, the ability to accurately identify and target anything distant from myself would be severely lowered. This is of course an interpretation and assumes a physical logic with spells, maybe there is another one. In this world, how are you interpreting the affects of blindness on spell casting? Thanks!

Will have my post up tonight/tomorrow. Thanks!
