Random question

If Talca had one of the clerics bless his arrows would they be more effective against the undead? Also, if the arrows were blessed would they retain the effects until they were fired or, rather, would the blessing expire after x amount of time?

blessing objects...

This absolutely does work, granting a +1 to the arrow in question. Multiple spells do not stack.

A spell can only be used to bless a single item - i.e. one arrow. The effect lasts until the arrow is used, or until the spell's duration is reached; for 3rd level clerics, that means that the blessing holds for 18 minutes (and only works on objects that weigh up to 3 pounds).

A more permanent blessing requires additional magics beyond the ability of the party.

Of course, bless can also be used in the "traditional" way - as an area of effect buff that gives a +1 to attack rolls, and a +1 to saving throws vs. fear, for everyone in a 50 foot cube centered around the caster.

Posting Later Tonight

I am writing a Post that should be Posted to the Game later tonight that may or may not cover Eol's Question.

There were some Knowledge Checks made by t_catt11 to some Questions that I had presented to him in a PM not long after he Posted the UpDate.

I needed a couple of clarifications on the Knowledge Checks which he has answered with another PM, so all the Knowledge Check info is being woven together in my Post.

Thank You for Your Patience

EDIT: I see your question has been answered and I will say as a SPOILER that Vengador will be Casting the Bless Spell to cover the 50' Square Radius.

You will have to wait to read my Post to Understand Why

Okay...

...feasible tactic then. Good.

How about flaming arrows? Are they allowed? Does Talca have the skills and/or supplies to fashion them? Worth the trouble?

allowed?

Psh, I'm never going to say that something isn't allowed. Whether it will work or not... that's another story.

I expect that you would need some pitch or tar, plus a lit torch (or maybe a mage to produce some flame for you). This makes it pretty tough to just light an arrow on your own and fire it (how do you hold the torch and shoot?); historically, archers who used flaming arrows would have torchbearers run through and light everyone's arrows.

Flame might give you, say, a +1 to damage, plus a chance to light the target on fire for bonus fun. However, I would expect that you would see reduced range with flaming arrows, and would certainly incur at least a small accuracy penalty (dipping an arrow in pitch reduces the aerodynamics).

Pitch and/or tar should be easy and inexpensive to source in Crandel, if you were so inclined.

Alrighty, then!

How about thermonuclear warhead tipped arrows?

I kid, of course... Was just curious about the bless (as I've never really played a cleric) and the fire arrow question was more one of possibility than anything... I'd considered the lighting of them, myself, and wasn't sure how that might be made to work efficiently (unless the party got ambushed around a campfire or something).

Good to know on both fronts, though... Definitely something to consider. Ah-thank-you!

cool

One thing to note:

I don't really keep a super close tab on ammunition; I assume that all hits are reusable, as are most misses (unless it's a really bad miss in bad visibility conditions, then the arrow could be lost).

Now, if you dip arrows in pitch and set them on fire, understand, those are consumed.

Again, it's seldom an issue; if you have, say, 40 arrows in your quiver, you virtually never run out. But if you set a half dozen on fire every fight, that can add up.

Duly noted!

If/when the opportunity presents itself, Talca may fashion a half dozen flame arrows or so. It bugs him that the ghoulie took one to the chest and still kept coming, so he's thinking contingencies.

well

To be very clear, it wasn't a ghoul that Talca shot - it was just a particularly tough zombie. Had he hit one of the more decayed ones, he might have one-shotted it.

yep

Sorry to hear that, CAP.

I had kind of expected some posts about what would happen more than just immediately after the fight, so I made a post to nudge you guys. Are you still going to Crandel? doing something else?
