Supernatural / hunter interest?

Hey all, just wondering if anyone watches supernatural or likes the prospect of hunting supernatural beings, I know I'm running a game right now and I'm a part of some games too but I've been wanting to play this for a while so, just gauging interest. Anyone wanting to play a modern game where the setting is there are things in the dark that kill humans and most of society doesn't know about them, there's a few called hunters that fight them and try to save people. I'm on my phone rn so formatting is awful, I'd anyone's interested lemme know

Oooooh!

I thought about something similar a few years back, actually... never really did get it off the ground, though...

Sounds like a fun concept to me and I'd definitely entertain the idea.

Also... moved this to the Recruitment Forum.

Memories

This concept has come up a few times, using the Witchcraft setting, a few different games. Check out the rules and no-rules RPG sections under horror or modern.

Eol, this has me thinking of "Stare into the Night" ...

Interested

While I haven't watch the Supernatural show, I'm interested in the modern horror aspect. If you would have me in the game? While I'm a mediocre RPer, I have been called 'Prolific'.

Ah yes...

...such good memories! It'd be awesome to breathe some new life into those characters! Alex was so delightfully damaged. Smoke was supremely snarky. And what can we say about Penelope other than rrrrrooowwwwwrrrr!

Boo Boo, you don't give yourself enough credit.

Systems

For something like this I'd just like to throw out the World of Darkness is perfect for this setting. Normal humans with interest in the supernatural using old knowledge and current technology to try and combat and investigate strange going ons. Highly recommended looking up the base book at the least for some ideas.

Yup...

...WoD and Witchcraft would both be great systems to use for this. I explored the idea of doing a "Supernatural" type game utilizing d20 modern rules, once, as well. It looked like it would work on paper but, as I said, I never really did get that game up and running.

I've got access to a good majority of the Witchcraft system if you care to have a peek, Impulse.

Rules

Ah, I see you are discussing rules. Hmmm. Ok, I am still interested but the rules thing is new to me. I might need help with those if I play.

Eol - I'm just being realistic. I can RP, and I know I'm not the best, but I will give it all that I can. I can promise that.

Sweet

I loved the WWII Horror games Alacrity ran (Hint....) and this seems fairly close. I'd love to give it a try.

As for rules, I have no ideas about rules for something like this, but I wouldn't let that stop me. In general I let the DM worry about that and just tell them what I want to do and then find out if they can. It works since the DM generally rolls the dice. Only spells (which won't matter here, I suspect - for the characters anyway) and character generation really require more.

So count me in if you have room. I'm willing to wing it.

There is a supernatural rpg

The cortex rules which I used for serenity and wwii has a Supernatural rpg game. It is now out of print but I have the PDFs. I can share it with anyone who would like it.

The one thing I would say though is that the monsters were so so more powerful than the players that the GM has to be careful not to wipe out the party. You got to give them the tools they need.

wow!

Lotta interest! Super glad to have everybody on board

I think i'd originally be going to use the codex rules that alacrity mentioned,

However I have been entertaining the thought of using WoD rules, I love vampire the masquerade, Such a good freaking world! Handbook is a bit messy concerning rule placement but it's a great system,

Thanks Eol for moving it to recruitment, I hurriedly posted something on my phone

I'll check out the WW2 horror game that alacrity also ran as I've had no experience running this type of game but I'm hoping it'll all go well!

So to summarize, rule system, who has experience with World of darkness rules and who has experience with codex/cortex (Idk which one it is)?

and thanks alacrity, i'll definitely keep that in mind

Concerning the world, I"m thinking I'll just have a map of America (Or Canada where I live ), you guys can set the world base, I'll have a bunch of questions concerning character creation and the like but the basic context of the game will be that the players are hunters that fight supernatural beings in a world like our own, where majority of the population has no idea that ghosts, demons, zombies and spirits even exist. The plot will obviously be a bit more than just hunting stuff randomly, I'm hoping i'll be able to use your characters backgrounds and personalities to jumpstart an appropriate plot after maybe a hunt or two when you guys are more comfortable with the world and the system.

Sound good? If you have any questions at all, feel free to PM me.

And Boo boo, no worries! I'm very new to running games by play by post so it'll be a learning experience for the both of us

Edit:
Nimu I'll also check out the ones you mentioned, I'd like to get some form of inspiration. While I'm excited for running this I'm also nervous! I hope that the game (which seems like it'll run) goes well!

Go for it!

Looks like you've got a good group going. It WILL run.
Games like this have popped up here before, and they are always lots of fun. Looking forward to see where you take this.
