A Cave . . . now this is what real adventurors do!

Spelunking anyone????

So, a cave mouth but we have to cross the water to get to it.If I understand correctly, this side of the water is fairly open and exposed, but the other side is pretty densely forested.

We could try to go back and cross the stream somewhere so that we could approach through the dense woods - assuming we actually have a way to cross a stream that is well over our heads and wider than we can jump and that we can move reasonably through a "dense woods."

The other option is to approach from this side of the water and cross. I don't know about you, but this seems to scream "guards" and "ambush" to me. It certainly says "exposed." Any ideas?

Map

The black squiggly is where ya'll are at the moment. You notice the forest on the east side of the river thins out as it approaches the cave entrance.

good question

1 square is 5 feet.

Also, just saying I may bring an npc here and there in case battles get too heavy.

Considering that we can move the entire distance in one round, I don't think that we need to bother with backtracking....

If they're going to ambush us, then they can see us already, and our intent must be clear. So even if we do backtrack and cross the stream to come up on the forested side, they will likely just shift the ambush.

I vote we just head in from where we are.

Charge!

Ok, that makes sense.

Should we go at a faster pace than normal to try and cross the distance quickly in case of the likely ambush. Or just stroll along? We have been moving very cautiously so far.

I'd probably vote for an accelerated semi-dash towards the opening. And I wonder about what is on the right side that is so conveniently not on the map.

Any response guys? I don't want to post a semi-dash if that isn't the plan.

I don't know if a charge/accelerated rate would be best. We don't know what is on the other side of the cave.

Personally I would rather not run head first into a large group of goblins.... or worse.

If we just do a steady advance then we should be able to see what's coming at us, and act accordingly.

AC

The goblins are 17 to hit if they have their shields out, which these don't. So they are 16 to hit. It looks like four of them.

Three questions:

1. Are we just having Oskar disappear for awhile? Or might he be an NPC? Two people is a small group.

2. Will the woods near us provide us cover as well if we move into them? I'm assuming they are not so dense it will be hard to move into them. Is that fair? If we charged across the water - what sort of delay would a charge like that across water have? How many shots do we think they would get before we reached them?

3. Pavel - Dane would prefer to hide in the woods and shoot - he is not a great melee fighter. What say you?

Yes, you could dive in those bushes for some cover, the same that the goblins are getting.

The delay is more for the distance, with the water slowing you down, it'll probably take up a turn to reach and engage the goblins, so they'd get a round of free shots on you.

I'm not 100 percent sure what I'm doing with Oskarr yet, but don't worry, I won't let ya'll die. You'll get some help in some form or another. I might post in the recruit thread to see if anyone else wants to join soon as well.
