The Guiding Light Q&A

This is the Q&A thread for my D&D game, "The Guiding Light". Please post all OOC questions and observations here.

Note that I have only given the briefest of descriptions of your characters - this is because most of YOU have only given me the briefest of physical descriptions.

If you would, make sure to work a verbal picture of your character into your first post, please.

The group has traveled together for a good six weeks or so, at the minimum. You have endured a battle or two, so the very basics of "can I trust this guy?" should be out of the way. That doesn't mean you all have to love one another; in a party with two noble-born syls PLUS two half breeds, I wouldn't be surprised at all if there were some race/class issues at play.

En'Aranthea has a mission, which is why you are in this godsforsaken place. She is to meet with an operative of the sylvari crown. The idea is that this individual is posing as a reasonably well to do Bayrisian merchant. He is to have arrived via ship a week or so ago, presumably on "business" with this smaller trading port. No more details have been revealed to the bladesinger. She may or may not have revealed her mission to the rest of you - this is her choice.

Feel free to post!

Current character roster
En'Aranthea Cormlond - female sylvari bladesinger (Vanadia)
Tal'Anor Meridyann - male sylvari paladin of Oriana (Tann'Talas)
Varuna Casan - male half-sylvari cleric of Lysora (YeOlde)
Valendara Isilifeline - female sylvari mage (Brianna)

Yippee

I'll try to manage a post this weekend, but it is an exceptionally busy one with family converging from all sides

I've emailed you my character sheet from level one, I know you'll need to up it to third level.

If someone gets a post in before me...here is what the party will have learned of her in our travels together ...you are free to take your own interpretations of her character, of course

En'Aranthea Cormlond is likely the youngest Sylvari you've seen, unless you have been in Sylvari lands as a trusted visitor. In human terms, she's on the young side of a teenager, for all of her skill in fighting. She's a bladesinger, or Megilindar and if you didn't know what that is beforehand, you got to witness the fluid, almost poetic forms of the bladesinger fighting style when the sla'kar attacked.

En'Aranthea is of noble birth among the sylvari and is, indeed, a cousin of the Sylvari paladin (whose name escapes me, hehe). She's uncomfortable around the mixed races, especially those of part Sylvari blood, but tries to hide it with formal courtesy (up to each of you if you notice and/or are offended by it). Her manner of speech is likewise formal, partly due to her station, but also likely to her unfamiliarity with Common. She makes the occasional error in using common phrases, or takes a moment to remember a word, so it's clear she has not been speaking Common for long, and must be translating in her head.

Physically, she is tall (for Sylvari) and slender, seemingly too frail for the slightly curved longsword she bears so well. Her brown leather armour is intricately tooled with complex designs of trees, vines and other plants. Most Sylvari wear their hair long and unbound, but her golden blonde hair is woven into intricate braids around her head, all joining a single braid down her back. Small lopsided white flowers are woven into her braids, and give off an invigorating scent for such fragile seeming blooms (the healer among you will recognize the flowers as Aranthea's Heart, a prized herb with many curative properties).

The wide green eyes of a dreamer look out of a heart-shaped face, and she has the full lips of one who would smile often, if she weren't so serious. For all her beauty, the fineness of her armour and cloak are the only signs of any vanity, and she does not fuss over her appearance as you would expect of a noble woman. Indeed, she lavishes the most care on the plain, unadorned sword she carries, almost as if it were worth more than her own life.

Anyway, didn't mean to write a novel, nor looking for the same from everybody else, but wanted to give my fellow players a glimpse of the Sylvari maiden you've been travelling with these long days

Tal’Anor Meridyann

First off his hair is silverish blonde with hints of green in it. His eyes are greenish blue he looks like my avatar only his hair is whiter and he has elf ears.
He is cousin's with our Bladesinger though up until this mission they had not seen each other for many years and are now just getting to know one another again.
Below is his background as listed on his character sheet.

BACKGROUND Born as the privileged 1st son of an Elvin Lord in service to the High King of all Elves in the Sylvari land of Maelamin he was brought up meek and never wanting for anything in the City of Vanima Romen. For as a son of noble birth he was much pampered and well cared for. He was as a child washed by females of the court of his father even into his so called teen years and learned at an early age the art of love and the passion of sex. Many were the women who graced the young nobles bed even into adult hood yet none was a perfect match. Something was wrong, something inside him cried out and so at the age of 105 his status as nobility not withstanding he partitioned and was granted the necessary teachings to become a Paladin of the Sylvari High Court.

Tal trained hard having found in him a desire to be counted on his own merits not that of his parentage. No longer did he want to be pampered by others for if he were one day to become lord of his house and advisor to the King he wanted to earn their respect and loyalty on his own. At last after years of hard training he was ready to be crowned as such. For days his sleep was wracked with unease and pain of mind then the days became weeks and many of his peers and close family feared for his sanity. Then one night it changed as he was sleeping a calm fell upon him and so began what at first he thought was a dream. The Goddess Oriana came forth from the heavens and without a word between them climbed into his bed. Never before had he known such pleasure, such passion, and such love. Upon waking he felt refreshed as he had not in days knowing to whom he would now take as his Holy Deity. It was as he moved to the bath area his chest bare that many were the shocked looks he received, with a mirror brought forth he was stunned to see upon his left breast the symbol of Oriana, a heart made of pearl inset with a teardrop ruby clearly placed there by her own hand. He knew then that the dream was no dream and the Goddess Arna’arvandor had chosen him as her champion. No longer alone his Heart, Mind, Body and most importantly his soul as one.
He set forth then to prove to him and all others that he would be worthy one day to step into the role of his father as head of his noble house. Aided and protected such as any mortal Syl could be by the love of a Goddess he went out into the world of the Human’s to seek his destiny.

I'm in

Alright, our fearless leader has decided to brave the Rystefn Curse and invite me aboard to replace the lost mage. As soon as I get a few things run by the DM, I'll be finishing up character creation and jumping in.

character posting?

I don't usually do that, but I can make an exception if need be. I'd really rather you guys just describe your characters inside of the game context.

Speaking of which, some posting would be nice...

grrr...

I hate it when things start out this way!

Admiral Bob - are you in or out? I need a post from you, or at least a message.

Ziklag has dropped. Rystefn was supposed to take his place, but he's had issues.

Guys, this should be a brisk, breezy little adventure. Still, I'd like to know that I *do* have players...

I am replacing Addy and Ryst, and will try to get a post of my own up in the meantime. I would like some idea of what the replacement characters look like, though.
