C-c-c-cold

The sight of the blue field had made the whole thing real for Monty. The hairy, white ape that Chief Blake had spotted was now a very real possibility. He’d been unsure up to that point, and now he was leading a team of spec ops into…what? He wasn’t really certain anymore. Everything was out of whack, unreal, and as far as he knew…impossible. Not to mention that it was freakin’ cold! He’d lived through some cold winters in Idaho, but this was nothing like that. This was killing cold, and despite the gear that he wore, Monty felt his extremities going numb and the cold was sapping his strength. As they progressed through the deep snow Lt. Kernan kept glancing back at his team, looking for signs of any of their bodies succumbing to the effects of the bitter wind and low temperatures. Luckily, as they drew near to the dome everyone seemed to be holding up.

They followed Blake’s advice, moving into the blue field with some trepidation, but receiving nothing more than a slight tingle for the effort. Monty was so intent on the building ahead that he didn’t even bother to try and get back out again. Straight to the closed emergency exit they went moving in a straight line with the Lieutenant cutting their path through the snow. As they reached the door, Monty stopped three feet from the entrance and slightly to the left.

“Pearson,” Kernan said into his radio. “Open the door.”

When the door was open the Lieutenant was the first in, fully ready for some response to the alarm that sounded, and stepping to the right while covering the hall during the rest of the team entrance. They spread out quickly, checking the two storage rooms as cover teams, in the time that it took the alarm to quiet.

“Want us to do a thorough sweep of the room, sir?” Private Pearson asked as they entered the rec. room.

“Yeah,” Monty was peering down the sight of his M6A1 while taking in the condition of the room. “Uniform sweep. Move out.”

The team started forward in a Special Forces crouch, weapons at ready as they covered each other’s progression, Kernan still in the lead. Then his radio crackled and Sgt. Kane’s voice echoed in their ears.

< “Lt, Kane here, we have gained entrance on our side of the Facility and have found the body of one of those Ape type creatures. I have Cpl Johannsen getting us a DNA sample and then will move further into the building. Any new orders at this time.” >

Beneath his mask, Monty’s brow furrowed. These ape-things were in the building? This didn’t bode well. He had the sudden urge to tell the sergeant that should he encounter the strange yetis to just drop down prone and play dead. Instead, he answered the man’s question.

“No, Sergeant. Proceed as ordered.” He didn’t need to tell the other team to be careful. They were, after all Army Rangers.

Once the workroom is clean the plan is to carefully move into the garage where they’ll check the vehicles (if any) to see if any are operable…just in case. Then the parts and laundry rooms. They’ll do a quick pass of the next storage rooms to see if there’s anything they might be able to use, or anything that would be of interest to them, and then they’ll move on to the adjoining hallway, securing it in like form. The observatory is big on Kernan’s list.

Inga

Helo to Station

In the 20 or so minutes that it took to get to the station and through the damaged boor Inga was cold to the bone. She keeps moving about to keep warm though, though stuill acutely aware of her surroundings.

If Inga can get a good look at the doorway ripped off it hinges and still keep on watch she will do so. If not she does communicate her thoughts and asks to check out the door or have someone check out the door. Her question wa; was that door smashed in or out? In other words, did this thing attack from the outside or break out from the inside. They had had no information on what was being done at the station and most likely they will not find out anything from official sources but she bet as they continued on they just might discover some answers for themselves. She takes a step closer to the sergeant, “Sergeant Lee. I was thinking that that door needs to be check out for whether something broke in or broke out.”

When the team stops Inga, the second to the last man, moves a step to the side to see what stopped the team. The partially buried apelike creature covered in white fur immediately made her think of an Abominable Snowman; Inga wonders what her team leader will tell the other team. Inga could almost imagine the conversation in her mind. “Fire Team A, this is Fire Team B. _______We have encounter a dead Yeti. ______Repeat, a Yeti. ______ An Abominable Snowman! _________ _No! This is not a joke. ”

Inga can hardly wait to get a closer look at this thing. Her curious mind quickly processes several thoughts as she waits for orders even as she scans the surroundings, with weapons ready and safety off. Until she is called in, it is her duty to keep watch and be ready. To her mind, with what she knew of Antarctic exploration, there had never been a mention of an Abominable Snowman sighting. This one fact makes her lean towards the idea the enemy had come from within. Conclusion though could not be made at this stage, there were too many unknowns. Finding the Yeti put her on high alert; it was just so strange.

Yeti found

Reality isn's always what you might imagine. Staff sergeant Kane words were different, “Lieuttenant, Kane here, we have gained entrance on our side of the Facility and have found the body of one of those Ape type creatures. I have Cpl Johannsen getting us a DNA sample and then will move further into the building. Any new orders at this time?”

Hearing Sgt Kane's words Inga moved up quickly. Once at the creature she slips on her rifle's safety and slings it on her shoulder. She then hunkers down next to the creature to prevent contact with the frozen ground. She was still feeling the effects of the intense cold but ignored it as she worked. She certainly wasn’t going to wimp out from being colder than she ever had been before, not her. She would not disgrace her Norwegian ancestors.

There were several of those hits in her quick stash in her pants pockets Inga gets one DNA sample kit out , part of her regular medical supplies for when bodies were found with out enough identifiable parts whether they were victims of bombs, or whatever. Each kit contained sterile gloves, scissors, scalpels and swabs and several vials with labels to put sample in, and swabs. She knows she will have to off her gloves and put on medical gloves to take the sample as so they are as pure as possible but she waits until all the kit supplies are set out She plans ahead to minimize the time that she has to keep them off.

When everything was set up she stripped off her gloves and slipped on the surgical gloves. Inga worked quickly but surely. She opened up one vial at a time and closed it before opening a second vial and so on. She took hair samples, a swab of the mouth, and a piece of flesh and tried to scrape up and bit of blood where she could find it. Each vial was already set up for each type of sample so as soon as she had the sample cut sealed in the vials she placed them in a plastic bag and sealed it tight. Then she took off the gloves inside out to prevent anything from getting on her—never knew what might be contaminating bodies.

Inga slipped on her thermal gloves as soon as she could, but even in that short time her hands were freezing. She flexed her fingers several times trying to get then limber enough write on the outer label. She labels the outside of the last bag and stashes into her medical kit.

“Staff Sergeant, Kane. I have finished the DNA samples. Inga rose up from her hunkered down position. Lifting her rifle from her shoulder she checks it out and out the safety off. Inga continued to work her finger to get some warmth back into them.

you just thought things were strange before...

Antarctic Research Facility, Antarctica - 1751
Fire Team A

After finsihing the sweep of the rec room and storage closets, Lieutenant Kernan's team opens the door to the garage.

The room is large, designed to hold two snow crawlers and three snow cats, along with tools and adequate space to maintain all of the vehicles. The large garage doors are uninsulated, which results in this room being colder than the rest of the station - though far warmer than the brutal environs outside.

It appears that some time in the recent past, a fire has swept though this room - the walls are charred, and smoke damage is evident everywhere. All five vehicles are present, but all have apparently been cannabalized for parts; various access panels are open (or even cast aside), wires stick out from odd places, sections of vehicles are simply gone, as if carried off. The vehicles themselves are blackened from soot and smoke; it is doubtful that any of them are functional.

As the team picks its way through the garage, a strange whirring sound fills the air. Suddenly, a large, shining, metallic abomination levitates up from the far corner of the room!

It is a thing from a nightmare - from one side of the asymmetrical torso sprouts a long, gripping arm terminating in a powerful metal claw, as well as two smaller, more delicate limbs. The other side of the torso sports a fearsome weapons mount, with some sort of rotating turrent assembly. The squat head has three red eyes, as well as an impressive array of sensors. The entire body floats two feet above the ground over a cloud of blueish particles.

A metallic voice eminates from within the robot. "Intruders detected," it speaks in a calm, unhurried manner. "Initiating protocol Gamma-four-six. Hostiles to be destroyed."

The oddly shaped barrel from the turret rotates to point at the fire team, then begins glowing red!

Antarctic Research Facility, Antarctica - 1751
Fire Team B

Sergeant Kane orders the medic to take a sample of the yeti, and so, she breaks out the needed gear. Meanwhile, Hart examines the door and the door frame, and muses over what he has seen so far.

The blue field did not seem to stop him from reaching back through it, any more than it had stopped him from entering in the first place. That was comforting.

The door had been clearly ripped off from the outside; perhaps the creature had torn off the door in an effort to escape the attackers who had shot it? Unfortunately, the creature could not tell them.

Johannsen removes her outer gloves to don surgical ones, and immediately regrets the decision. Even though the fire team is somewhat sheltered from the wind, the room, being exposed to the weather, is truly no warmer than the environmnet. The medic's fingers go numb almost immediately; by the time her samples are taken, they are blue with cold. Finally, the job is done, and the team stumbles into the heated area of ARF36.

You find yourselves in the south end of a long hallway. On the left wall are regularly spaced doors that correspond to the map's desginations for staff quarters. The first door on the right is the receiving room.

The receiving room is fairly nondescript; a large, metal door dominates the eastern wall, with a switch to raise and lower it. A large hydraulic jack is here.

Should post this in the game, not the Q&A :)

Charlie moves into the facility as the looey orders, making sweeps with eyes and gun sight as she steps carefully in the crouch that would let her move quickly in any direction. She looks around the garage in mixed surprise and dismay, and takes a big sniff of the air to determine if the charring was recent, or some time ago.

When the what the heck would you call it – a deathbot ? thing rose from the corner and moved to intercept them, the scientist in Charlie took a moment to marvel at it’s design and complexity while the soldier in her yelled, “Evasive action!” and she scuttled quickly to find some sort of cover, preferably behind something fire resistant.

A metallic voice emanates from within the robot. "Intruders detected," it speaks in a calm, unhurried manner. "Initiating protocol Gamma-four-six. Hostiles to be destroyed."

“End initiation,” Charlie yells, going on instinct while she tries to figure out how to counter this…this thing. “Security code: Tango-six-five-nine-nine-zero-one. Validate!”

While she hopes that might work, or at least confuse it’s programming…she eyes the thing and tries to guess where it might be most vulnerable. If the security clearance code for the facility doors doesn’t work (for that is what she called out, with the most common programming commands (OOC: forgive me, I’m no programmer!!!)) she’ll resort to firing at it, in single shot mode, aiming for sensors and any joins between the weapons turret and the main body.

Finally my post geez you guys so like PMing me LOL

With Cpl Johannsen’s task completed Sgt Kane ordered Team B further into the facility.

“OK listen up Lee, you and Johannson take the left side of the hallway; make sure you do a complete recon of all rooms on your side. One man in, one man stays by the doorway covering inside man and hallway rotate inside man every other room.
Hart your with me same M/O I’ll go in first.”

Moving to the first door on the right side (# Sgt Kane moved to enter it, Saw slung behind him for easy access and M13 in hand.

(OOC: Ok Olan when I enter a room I will be wielding my 45. When on cover I will use the M251 SAW. Order of room checks on left side all room 10‘s 11. Right side rooms 8, 6, & 5. Then both 2 man teams meet in area by room 5 and move to the next area and continue as such till we reach room 13 and then both will move in I will order who goes in first once we reach that room. We will continue searching each side until we hook up with the Lt’s team. I am doing this, this way as of right now we have no idea that the Lt’s team are under fire or soon will be.)

Searching ...

While Cpl Johannson finished with the DNA sample Le finished his examining the door and called out to the Staff Sgt, “Looks like this door was ripped outwards so these things might have busted in instead of the other way around.” He didn’t continue figuring the Staff Sgt could figure out the possible conclusion that maybe these ape-like things weren’t and experiment that had escaped but maybe something that appeared out of the cold.

He shivered at the thought; standing near the door, even out of the wind, he felt the bitter cold getting to him. He was about to suggest they should move on inside without the sample when..

Sgt Lee nodded and moved inside to the hallway with his M6A1 carbine at the ready as he hugged the left side wall. If he sees nothing he will move to the first door on his left (First #10), if door is open he will gesture to the Cpl to cover him and he will stack on the right side of the door leaving the left for her. Listening for noise first, if he hears nothing, he will let his carbine slip back on its sling and draw his sword with his left hand. His sword he handles as well with either hand, but he shoots better with his right.

If the door is closed he will try it and if it is unlocked he will turn the know and push enough to open it about a quarter of an inch then draw his M9A2 pistol with his right and using his foot he will push the door open and crouch slightly as he looks into the room. If he sees nothing dangerous, he will slowly proceed inside doing a through sweep looking for anything unusual making sure to check all corners and behind all doors. If power is out and it is dark in the room, he will click on the xenon light mounted on the accessory rail under the gun.

(If he finds anything unusual, he will of course report to the Staff Sgt. He will repeat this procedure for each of the rooms on his side, all #10s and 11 till he ends at #5 as instructed. He will however, order the Cpl to wait at the door and cover him, telling her that he will make each entry himself. He will deal with the Staff Sgt later if he is angry about his slight change in orders. )

What it was made for... I hope...

“You want us to do a thorough sweep of the room, Sir?” Denes ask as they came up to the recreation room.

The lieutenant’s response was short and direct, just the way Denes liked it: “Yeah. Uniform sweep. Move out.”

Denes liked the way the man led… from the front. Sure, it’s not standard procedure. But, it sure shows balls. You could trust a lieutenant who put himself out there with the rest of the grunts.

As his team continued to scan the room, Pearson regarded his second-in-command too. While Blake had seemed a bit flaky back at base, the private could tell the woman was all business now.

The staff sergeant’s voice crackled to life in his ear: << Lieutenant, Kane here. We have gained entrance on our side of the Facility and have found the body of one of those Ape-type creatures. >>

Great… that’s just great, thought Denes. At least the thing’s dead.
The recreation room yielded no indication on what was going on at the facility, and none of the research staff had shown themselves yet, as Denes had hoped for.

“Still no welcoming party, Sir,” Denes said glumly, but then smiled slightly. “Maybe they’re busy cooking us up some quarter-pound yeti burgers back in the lab. Betcha that’d be some serious meat, hey. With some good ol’ Texas barbeque sauce.”

>>> OOC: Tag Fire Team A… respond if you like… or Denes will just keep rambling… <<<

When they had finished their sweep, the lieutenant ordered the team to move into the garage and continue in the same manner.

The sight was not hopeful – charred walls, black soot everywhere, and vehicles that looked like they had been used for spare parts. Not good, Denes. Stay alert, man. Stay alert.
“What do you think, Sir?” asked Denes as they moved forward in their sweep. “Abominable snowmen arsonists…”

The private’s voice trailed off as a whirring sound started up in the far corner of the room. What the…
As the “robot” rose up from its corner position, Denes’ M19 was immediately trained on it.

“Intruders detected…” came the voice from inside the thing.

“Sweet mother-f&^$ing Mary!” exclaimed the private. “What the h@#$ is that thing?”

“…gamma-four-six. Hostiles to be destroyed.”
“Oh s#*%!” Denes shot low on the thing, hoping to disable its strange propulsion system, as he moved for cover behind one of the nearest vehicles.

OOC: Alright… a couple of things. 1) Denes M19 is set on three-round burst. 2) Denes is looking to stay close to the lieutenant, so if Kernan does not go for cover, or seeks cover elsewhere, Denes is following after Kernan.

Ack!

“What do you think, Sir?” asked Denes as they moved forward in their sweep. “Abominable snowmen arsonists…”

Monty's mouth curled up in a grin while his eyes continued to scan the room. "We can only hope, Private."

Well, hope is one of those things that is quickly dashed, and as the whirling sound hummed through the air drawing the Lieutenant's attention, his fears of encountering a yeti with a match and gasoline quickly went up in smoke.

"Intruders detected--"
“Sweet mother-f&^$ing Mary!” exclaimed the private. “What the h@#$ is that thing?”

“…gamma-four-six. Hostiles to be destroyed.”
“Oh s#*%!” Denes shot low on the thing, hoping to disable its strange propulsion system, as he moved for cover behind one of the nearest vehicles.

“End initiation,” Charlie's yell was followed up by instructions. “Security code: Tango-six-five-nine-nine-zero-one. Validate!”

Monty mentally swore as he immediate darted for the nearest cover, weapon raised. He'd been about to yell out to hold fire, but Private Pearson had quickly made that a moot point. "Hatherford, Blake, move on the left! Don't do anything heroic!" That said, Monty quickly releases a three round burst at the horror, while not putting himself at too much risk. "Initiate alternating firing sequence to confuse it. Go!"

As the other team fires, Lt. Kernan quickly switches frequency to Fire Team B's. "Sergeant Kane, Fire Team A has engaged a hostile robot. Stand ready!"

Switching back to Fire Team A's frequency, Monty takes his turn at firing again. If the rounds from their automatic weapons don't work, he'll instruct Denes to drop the damn thing within seconds of the engagement kicking in.

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto

May 8th, 2025 - 1758
Garage, Antarctic Research Facility 36, Antarctica
Fire Team A

"End initiation," Chief Blake yells, going on instinct while she tries to figure out how to counter this…this thing. "Security code: Tango-six-five-nine-nine-zero-one. Validate!"

"Unrecognized command. Unauthorized interface. Initiating security access lockdown proceedure alpha-three." The robot's voice is cold and menacing. "No mercy."

Pearson and the robot fire almost simultaneously, the former's shot missing widly as he scrambles for cover, the latter narrowly missing the big private with a glowing ball of red energy.

Kernan and Hatherford also miss as they move for cover, but Blake manages to take good aim and squeeze a shot directly into the robot's metallic head, which erupts in a shower of sparks. This apprently attracts the mechanized horror's attention, and it fires a different sort of round at the tech (perhaps having more than one weapon inside of the turret?). Instead of the red ball of energy, an invisible pulse hurtles through the air, leaving a rippling disturbance in its wake, as it slams squarly into Charlie's chest. The chief is thrown back a dozen feet through the air, yet somehow manages to remain on her feet.

Kernan fires a burst, and at least two rounds hit, but they strike the heavy armor of the contruct, and simply ricochet off with no visible effect. Hatherford, however, has more success - the sniper squuezes off a .45 round that apparently penetrates a weak spot in the robot, as more sparks erupt. For his trouble, the robot trains its cannon on him, and the sniper is hit square on by one of the red blasts of energy, and feels his body flooded by intense, burning pain.

Blake, still off balance, misses her own shot, and Pearson's round whines off the armor of the monster. It returns fire, striking the vehicle which the private is hiding behind, sending sheet metal flying through the air and shifting the position of the vehicle somewhat.

Kernan realizes that it is time for heavier weaponry. Even as he fires another burst from his carbine - this time causing visible damage - he shouts an order at Denes. "Pearson, drop the damn thing!"

"Get down!" the private shouts as his M413 grenade launcher fires a round with a WHUMP! The shot could not be more perfect, as it strikes the mechanical abomination squarely in the torso. Thankfully, there is just enough flight time for the grenade to arm, and it explodes, sending pieces of the robot flying all over the garage.

As quickly as it began, the firefight ends.

May 8th, 2025 - 1758
South Hallway, Antarctic Research Facility 36, Antarctica
Fire Team B

Lee and Johannsen enter the first of the rooms marked as quarters, with the sergeant acting as the breach man - sword in the left hand, pistol in the right. The room is empty, though the lighting seems to work fine.

All four beds are neatly made, and the two desks are similarly organized. Several white boards and PPCs (portable personal computers) sit on the desks, along with various notes and a few books that would appear to be scientific texts. Nothing appears amiss.

Meanwhile, Kane and Hart investigate the loading dock - the sergeant discovers that the loading dock is exactly what one would expect; cold, snow covered, and empty.

Lee and Johannsen enter the second room on their side of the hall. This one is less organized than the first. Though the bunks are still made up (in fact, made tighter than those in the first bunkroom), personal belongings are a bit more haphazard.

A map of the facility hangs on one wall, and a dry erase board entitled "CURRENT DUTY ROSTER" hangs next to the door. The desk contains a hard copy of what would appear to be a listing of all of the personnel at the base.

Kane and Hart move to the Sample Storage Room, this time, with Hart in the lead, and Kane covering him with the SAW.

This room appears to hold extra lab equipment, as well as samples from various experiments. Most of it looks rather mundane, but three items stand out.

One is a glass jar filled with a slightly yelowish liquid. Inside of the jar floats an odd, green and black snake - and truly odd are the two sets of wings sprouting from the creatures back (similar to a dragonfly).

The other two items are metallic canisters clearly marked with radiation symbols.

One contains a personal music player (think iPod), slightly melted. The other contains four rachets with the name "Clark" inscribed upon them.

Inga

Back Post

Inga briskly rubs her hands together trying to get feeling back into her finger. She could not feel them they were so cold-and the bad part was they didn't respond well. she slips her rifle sling over her shoulder. She is not so concerned with the left hand because she used her hand not her fingers to control it, but her trigger fingers--that was an huge problem. Sgt Lee ordered her to stay back on the first door and cover him while he goes in. She keeps rubbing the fingers of her right hand against her body.

"Yes, Sgt Kane " Inga moves off with Sgt. Lee towards the first door on the left. She waits for him to say who is going in this first door. Either way is fine for her. However, as they approach the door, Sgt. Lee amends Staff Sgt. Kane's orders. He was going in first-period—while she was to remain as cover and backup, Inga responds with “Yes, Sgt.”

She wouldn’t discuss his change of orders now. This was not the time, but damn it, she was an Army Ranger. She earned her position same as everyone else in the Rangers. His relegation of her to backup only, irked her. But she wouldn’t let it affect her performance. She wouldn’t be a Ranger is she had done so.

When they get to the door, she gets ready to cover Sgt. Lee. She positioned herself so that when Sgt Lee enters she can gets the widest range of view she can. Lifting her weapon and siting down the barrel, she lets him know, “Ready.”

Current

A textbook entry and backup, but there was nothing amiss in the room. Sgt Lee swept the place over, Inga kept his back covered. And alert to the inside and out in the hall. A survey of the room and contents turned up nothing of significance. Inga looked at the PPA. “There might be something useful on those PPCs, Sergeant. The Warrant Officer might maybe able to figure something out.”

Inga thought that whatever had occurred, happened while the people who inhabited this room were out, most like during a work period. And it happened quickly to everyone that had occupied this room because they had not returned to gather their belongings

As the Sergeant finished up Inga checked out the hallway and stepped back out, waiting for the Sergeant to exit. She also checks down the hall towards the rest of her team.

Is this what broken ribs feels like?

"Unrecognized command. Unauthorized interface. Initiating security access lockdown proceedure alpha-three." The robot's voice is cold and menacing. "No mercy."

“Oh, crappity” Charlie muttered to herself as she steadied her weapon before firing,” Gonna play hard, are you? If ever I needed a cheat code, now’s the time, oh great gods of the gaming plane!”

The robot fires a red bolt of energy at Pearson, missing him, but Charlie can’t let herself be distracted as she fires. Exhale, squeeze trigger (don’t pull!) inhale and adjust aim, repeat. She does manage to hit the thing, but that draws it’s fire, this time a barely visible pulse that Charlie couldn’t evade. It hit her squarely in the chest and propelled her backwards, though somehow she managed to keep her legs under her and didn’t fall.

Pain bloomed in the centre of Charlie’s chest as the breath left her with a whoosh. She had a terrifying moment when her body refused to breathe in again, the pain holding her rigid. She remembered, stupidly, a time when she’d mistimed a baseball’s bounce on rough turf and caught the ball in her adam’s apple…she’d been unable to breathe then too for a moment. She forced herself to relax, and her ribcage slowly re-expanded, a horrid wheezing sound accompanying that first painful breath. Spots danced behind her eyes and she knew she was badly hurt.

She blinked, woozily, and manages to clear her vision enough to see the thing fire another red bolt, this time at Hatherford, and she winces as the small of burning cloth and singed flesh assaults her nose. She squeezes off another shot but is pretty sure she missed.

Distantly, she hears the looey yell "Pearson, drop the damn thing!" and Pearson responding with "Get down!", and she manages to drop to the floor in an almost controlled fall, the impact knocking the breath from her again.

She feels the explosion of the grenade almost more than she hears it, and when she’s sure the debris has stopped flying, she drags herself back to her feet. One arm is cradled protectively around her chest, the other grips her pistol as she looks to find any big pieces of the robot to sight on. (Note to GM: Let me know if anything is left of the thing to collect and study later)

”Hatherford, you ok, man? Didja get the license plate of the truck that ran me down?“ she wheezes, blinking fresh stars from her eyes and looks groggily around the room to assess the others. “Loo? Pearson? Should we call for Johannsen to see to Hatherford? He looks bad, sir, and I’m not so peachy myself. I can soldier on, though, pending your orders.”

Alert ...

“Nothing wrong here,” Lee says to Johannsen standing in the doorway.

Inga looked at the PPA. “There might be something useful on those PPCs, Sergeant. The Warrant Officer might maybe able to figure something out.”
Lee nods to her as he comes back to the doorway, “Yeah, there might be but we can come back for them later, now is not the time.”

Lee and Johannsen enter the second room on their side of the hall. This one is less organized than the first. Though the bunks are still made up (in fact, made tighter than those in the first bunkroom), personal belongings are a bit more haphazard.

“Guess all scientists aren’t neat freaks,” Lee says as he picks up the base personnel listing and shoves it in a pocket.

As he reaches the doorway where Cpl Johannsen waits he stops in front of her before stepping out in the hallway. He could tell when he insisted on being the one to breach the both rooms that she was offended but didn’t question him. A good soldier.

“Corporal,” he says softly as he stood in front of her, “I don’t want you to think that by ordering you to guard the doors while I entered the rooms was in any way because you are a woman. Woman or not, you are a Ranger and you will hold up your end like everyone else so you wont find me giving you any slack on that account.”

He glanced up for a second to look out in the hall and looked towards the door that the other part of their fire team had entered then returned his gaze to her.

“You are a medic, our ‘Only’ medic and you are important, more important than a simple soldier like me,” he smiled slightly and seemed about to continue when ….

As the other team fires, Lt. Kernan quickly switches frequency to Fire Team B's. "Sergeant Kane, Fire Team A has engaged a hostile robot. Stand ready!"
“On Alert!” Sgt. Lee said to Johannsen and immediately sheathed his sword and pistol and swung his M6A1 carbine around to the front, and activating his mike he said, “Acknowledged! Lee and Johannsen rendezvousing with Sgt Kane.” He gestured for Cpl Johannsen to move to the doorway where Kane and Hart had entered another room. He took up a defensive position just past the doorway covering the North end and gestured to the Cpl to cover the South while they waited for the rest of their team to join up.

Inga

"Understood, Sergeant." Inga statess. His reasoning was practiocal and she could accept that. He didn't have to explain himself. Hrr respect for Sergeant Lee went up a notch in her estimation. Inga remained at ready, as backup so when the com unit is activated, she hears what the Lieutenant was saying. When Sgt Lee moves, she stays in cover position as he move up the hall to join Staff Sergeant Kanne and Coropel Hart..

"A hostile robot?" Thinks Inga. but wouldn't even wonder about this one, not now. Hostile is hostile--enough said. Inga's quick eyes sweep the hallway and she listens carefully to her and sounds approaching their current position.

"Inga switches to talk to team A, she had two quick questions, This is Johnannsen, IS anyone injured? Is there still hostile action

Well that sucks.

Ricky had definitely not been expecting robots, especially not robots with some sort of laser. The cold...yes, the yetis...maybe, but certainly not robots. Ricky was quickly re-evaluating his commitment to this mission.

"Hatherford, Blake, move on the left! Don't do anything heroic! Initiate alternating firing sequence to confuse it. Go!"

The brief orders were all Ricky had needed. He made a quick dash for cover, squeezing off a few shots as he did. They missed of course, but then again he hadn't had time to line them up, he was a sniper for f***'s sake, not a S.W.A.T. officer, and the confined spaces and lack of time to aim had thrown him off.

He crouched into cover near Kernan, just in time to see the chief get hit with a bolt of energy which kicked her high into the air. Seizing on the robot's occupation with another, Ricky leaned out from behind cover, taking his time and placed a bullet square into a soft spot, kicking up sparks as it hit. The robot it seemed however, took a bit of offense and directed its weaponry toward him. Before he could duck back into safety he was hit square in the chest, and it felt like his lungs exploded.

He didn't think he heard anything until Pearson nailed the thing with a grenade, blowing shards of it all around the room. Soon the rangers had come out of cover, looking about tentatively at the pieces of the metal monstrosity.

”Hatherford, you ok, man? Should we call for Bjornnsen to see to Hatherford? He looks bad, sir, and I’m not so peachy myself. I can soldier on, though, pending your orders.”

It was the chief again, apparently she was up and about after being hit. Ricky wasn't having quite as much fun it seemed, but he didn't want to be shown up by the feminine civvy.

"Phew, that was fun," he said with a slight grin that quickly turned into a wince, "don't think I'd hit that one again any time soon though."

He got up beside the others, waiting for the LT's decision on what they should do now, whether they call for a medic or trek on it made no difference, although he was quite adamant about making a more dedicated effort for self preservation from this point in.

(OOC: I assume I'm not crippled. Sorry I took so long.)

My Post

Team B continued its search of the south end of the facility in pairs Lee and Johnannsen to the Left the Staff Sergeant and Hart to the right. Then the call came in from the Lt as to their situation.
"Sergeant Kane, Fire Team A has engaged a hostile robot. Stand ready!"

As if a switch had been thrown Lee and then Johnannsen totally forgot radio discipline and both tried to talk at once.
“On Alert! Acknowledged! Lee and Johannsen rendezvousing with Sgt Kane.” This from Lee.
“This is Johnannsen, IS anyone injured? Is there still hostile action.” This from Johnannsen.

“Belay that!! Maintain radio discipline, if the Lt needs us he will call us. Continue your search.”

As the search continued at first both pairs turned up nothing, no people no “Yeti’s” and unlike Team A no robots. As Kane and Hart moved forward they quickly found themselves in some type of lab holding extra lab equipment, as well as samples from various experiments. Most of it looks rather mundane then as the Staff Sergeant and Corporal scanned the room they noticed a glass jar filled with a slightly yellowish liquid. Inside of the jar incredibly as it might sound floated an odd, green and black snake with two sets of wings sprouting from the creatures back, almost as if some mutated Dragonfly.
What the hell kind of experiments were they doing here Kane thought to himself

Then two other items caught the Sergeants eye, both metallic canisters clearly marked with radiation symbols. Kane could see without moving closer the canisters contents
One contained a personal music player, an ipod perhaps, slightly melted. The other contained four ratchets with the name "Clark" inscribed upon them. It was not the canisters contents that bothered the Staff Sergeant but the rad symbols.

“Hart stay back from those canisters; radiation protocol is now in effect.”

As he and the Cpl moved out of the room he got on the general freq for all unit members.

“Lt be aware have discovered radiation marked canisters, radiation protocol in effect for Team B, continuing search at this time.”
