Ghost
Longchester Hospital for the Insane

Einhart’s heart was in a fragile state, and only got worse when the arm of the guard grabbed him and forced him into an empty ward. Several of the close-by people wondered what this was all about, but mostly figured that the guard was taking care of it.

“Doctor Einhart, we need to talk. Take this and read it. I believe you must have some notion of who I am.” At first, Einhart did not understand. He had seen this guard the day before, but he did not understand what was going on. As he read the letter with shaking hands, he started to understand and becoming even more frightened.
“If you have any questions then this would seem an opportune moment to ask. I can assure you that our recent visitor, whatever it might be, was done of my doing. I believe you’ve witnessed first hand that I take good care of your patients and staff. If you’re willing to do as I ask, then I can extend you the same protection. Not a bad deal, I’d imagine, with a creature like that on your tail.” Einhart looked at the guard, who he now knew to be the ghost he had imagined himself seeing the night before. “V-vat d-do you pr-propose?” he asked with a shaking voice.
“One final point. I’m going to need you to sign a note excusing ‘Tom Bradley’”, the phantom glanced down to check the identity badge on the intern’s jacket, “from work for the next couple of hours or so, and permitting him to speak freely with your patients. Write it up and we can both move on.”
The doctor nodded his head, avoiding to look Hiram in the eyes. “I vill sign the note,” he said without giving it much thought, “giving you access to the patients.” He looked over the letter again, with thought. “But... vat do you intend to do about that... thing?”

I'm going to regret this...

Hiram took another long drag on the cigarette, taking in and then releasing its nicotine saturated smoke, as he stood over Einhart, watching while the German doctor read over his note. Though any real chemical addiction had long since passed, the dead psychologist found the familiar action reassuring, enjoying the taste of the cigarette while he waited to see what decision the new Head Doctor would reach. The old man’s hands were shaking visibly as he came to terms with the spectre’s presence, obviously unnerved by the events of the past twelve hours, but there was little room for sympathy in Hiram’s mind. The new Head Doctor must either come to accept his place in the hospital’s hierarchy, a well tuned cog in a perfectly ordered medical machine, or he would be rooted out before his actions could further despoil the sanctity of the old place. If anything, the spectre was rather enjoying his fear, finding a rare pleasure in the power his unnatural form could exercise over those who yet clung to the more enduring joys of mortal life.

“V-vat d-do you pr-propose?” Einhart asked, his voice wavering with trepidation.

So be it, he had won and the hospital was his, though the spectre could not help but feel slightly disappointed at having been deprived a pretext for terrorising the new Head Doctor further. Determined to underline his advantage, making absolutely certain that Einhart understood the arrangement he was entering into, the phantom continued in a much the same tone as before: “One final point. I’m going to need you to sign a note excusing ‘Tom Bradley from work for the next couple of hours or so, and permitting him to speak freely with your patients. Write it up and we can both move on.”
“I vill sign the note, giving you access to the patients.” Einhart replied, slightly too quickly for Hiram’s taste. Of course the hospital patients would be perfectly safe in the spectre’s care- but how was the new Head Doctor to know that? Irrational as it may have seemed, it irked the dead psychologist to see the hospital he had stood guard over for so many years fall, however nominally, under the control of a man who cared nothing for the sacred principles on which its operation should have been founded. Einhart glanced down at the letter again, reluctant to meet the phantom’s icy gaze, and continued, “but... vat do you intend to do about that... thing?”
Truth be told, this was not an issue to which Hiram had given a vast degree of thought. It had simply seemed expedient to throw in an offer of protection in order to play on the old man’s fear and encourage compliance. Of course, he had no intention of admitting as much, and- as distasteful as the proposition might seem- if the creature really was out for Einhart’s blood then it probably served the phantom’s own interests to ensure that the new Head Doctor survived the attack. Through Einhart he would control the hospital, and Hiram had no intention of giving his newfound influence up to some upstart intruder.

Drawing out one last drag from the cigarette, flinging its smouldering stump into the metal waste bin in the room’s corner, the phantom phrased his reply in as cavalier a tone as he could muster. “Well, our friend rather implied that he would be returning for you tonight, so we should have a few hours to plan for his return. Now, you may well have noticed that one of the sketches on my patient Annabell Holmes’ wall bears a remarkable resemblance to the creature we’ve just encountered, so I intend to make a few enquiries with her next. I can see you as far as the door for now, and by the time you return this afternoon I should be able to offer you my undivided attention once again. I’ll stand watch over you while you gather the information I’ve requested and, should the creature return, will make it abundantly clear that there is no place for it here if it continues to detract from the hospital’s life. If it’s not inclined to listen to reason, or should it make any direct attempt on your life, then I’ll employ as much force as is necessary to drive the thing off.”
In all honesty, recent experience had left Hiram slightly sceptical of his own abilities if it came to a direct confrontation with the strange apparition- he lacked any benchmark by which to judge his own strength save that offered by the beast from the past night’s dream. Still, he had seen no sign of the creature before now in all the long years he had been bound to this place, and it was to be hoped that the thing might simply move on of its own devices. If not then, well… appropriate action would need to be taken.

Making an educated guess based upon his own experiences, and reaching restlessly into his blazer pocket in search of another cigarette, the spectre continued: “I imagine you’ll find that the creature is bound to something- perhaps a part of the hospital itself, perhaps to an object that one of the staff or patients have brought in here. If it returns tonight and continues to cause problems then we will need to call a search tomorrow to find and destroy whatever it might be fettered to.”
OOC: I've just reread the thread and Hiram should currently be down to 7 Essence (6 if I need to pay for using Transmogrify in the dream).

Looking....'presentable'?

William simply gave a nod in Dorian's direction as he followed Ren downstairs. He didn't really care that Ren was talking to himself, aparently deciding what William should wear. He'd never been a dedicated follower of fashion, he usually just liked whatever kept him warm and comfortable.

((short one, just following Ren )

“Very vell,” Einhart said without looking straight at the possessed guard. “I vill go... home... for a few hours. I...” The doctor really did not have anything to finish that sentence with, but walked quickly out of the room. Hiram knew that Doctor Einhart was easily broken.

***

Einhart had written an official notice which allowed Hiram to have authorized contact with all the patients. Although Hiram had asked for having contact to the patients who suffered from insomnia, it was much easier to give him access to all the patients. Something about less suspicion, Einhart had stammered.

Annabell’s wall was still filled with ghastly pictures of nightmarish creatures and events when Hiram entered there in the guise of the guard. Annabell herself was huddled up in the corner. For a short moment she looked at Hiram but she was completely silent. Her eyes showed signs of having been crying for some time.

“She has been too scared since this morning to even speak.” The voice came from behind Hiram. A woman stood there, dressed as a doctor and holding Annabell’s file. Her hair was blond and cut short, she had smooth features and big, round glasses clinged to her face. Hiram recognized her as Doctor Eve Mullins, one of the actual good doctors of this institution. “So how’s the missus, Tom?”

Vampire & Werewolf
Longchester Library

It was dark outside, a situation that suited the vampire nature of Ren. The ride had been silent, aside from when Twitch had told Ren about Drew taking off with two asian chicks from the club and left Thomas to take care of the driving. Looking like he could not control his own men did not look good for Baron Ren Majere, so he was understandably a little upset.

Thomas was not a bad driver though and they soon arrived to the Longchester Library. Ren had heard about Salomon Lopez, but never actually met him before. William, being new to the town and everything, did not even know that the library was open for select few during the night.

The two of them stood outside the back door. A young man, who looked only slightly older than Ren looked, stood in front of them and blocked their way in. “Good evening, sirs,” the man said. “How may I assist you?”

Sunday bloody sunday..

Ren couldn't say other than that he was rather pleased with what he had done for William. The man didn't look so bad now that you had removed those layers of dirt, washed his hair and given him some very fancy clothing. The fine leather jacked he had gotten but sadly his man had only found a silk shirt in his size, no Egyptian wool but it didn't really matter. The fact that the man had shaved didn't spoil things either, it felt so much nicer to be around people when they looked and smelled presentable. So Ren was in fact in a rather good mood, until Twitch told him about Drew. How stupid can one man get? Ren wouldn't kill him, that would be way to kind for someThing like him, he would castrate him and feed his balls to his own mother before severing every bloody tendon in his body, tearing out his eyes and ripping his eardrums asunder. But that would have to wait, for now he settled for sending a few men to fetch him and bring him to the warehouse and keep him company till Ren was done with his work.

When they finally arrived at the library they where greated by a young man Ren presumed was one of Salomon's ghouls

“Good evening, sirs,” the man said. “How may I assist you?”

"My name is Baron Ren Majere, Speaker of The Invictus in Longchester"

Ren said with a slight smile on his face, stepping forwards a bit to bring the ghoul's attention fully on him.

"I need a certain book from your library, i would like you to help me the best you can to get my hands on it.
He said, weaving his talent of domination into his words, disguising it in a normal sentence the best he could.

"That is your job here is it not? To decide who gets in and direct them?"

He added to further disguise his earlier intrusion.

Well, something's gone wrong...

After dealing with Einhart, Hiram made his way back through the hospital complex to visit his patient Annabell Holmes. Another shard in the psychologist’s dead mind tore loose, visiting a new spark of insight upon the busy ghost. There was something about the new Head Doctor that disgusted the phantom deeply, beyond even the old man’s blatant disregard for his patients’ welfare, and as he mused over the morning’s events the spectre fancied that he could see an echo of his living self in the self-absorbed misconduct of the hospital’s present master. Oh, make no mistake, Hiram would never have sought to force himself upon any of the patients in his charge, it was rather a lust for material wealth that had damned him, but that same grasping, small-minded contempt for the well being of those he was sworn to minister to had damned him all the same and he had destroyed a great many lives in the process. It was an unpleasant revelation, comparing himself to a reptile like Einhart, but the dead psychologist could sense some glimmer of truth within it nonetheless. Putting the thought from his mind, hurried on that much faster to his next appointment. Whether more or less directly, his mortal crimes had fettered him to this place, but for the present he could only work to atone through a constant and selfless service to the hospital he had failed, serving the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of those he had wronged so many years ago.

***

As Hiram opened the door, and manoeuvred Tom Bradley’s body into the ward, he could see his latest patient curled tightly in the room’s far corner, hugging her knees with thin arms. A note of slight exasperation struck the wraith: had he suffered for nothing fighting to protect her from the dream-beast? Was she truly unable to comprehend that he would, that he could , shield her from any and all supernatural harm while in his charge? If anything, she appeared to be regressing to a worse state than before and that did not suit the spectre’s ambitions at all. Recognising the emotion as inappropriate, Hiram suppressed it quickly as he stepped forward into the hospital room, permitting the door to swing softly closed behind him.

A voice penetrated from the back of the room, “She has been too scared since this morning to even speak.” The spirit glanced back, it was Eve Mullins, one of the doctors who worked with the hospital’s paediatric wing. It had been careless of him not to knock, and he was intruding upon another doctor’s session. Still, she did not seem overly concerned at the interruption, instead continuing, amicably enough as far as the spectre could tell, “So how’s the missus, Tom?”
Fortunately, deceit came easily enough to Hiram, another unpleasant reminder of the double-life he had led in the final years of his mortal existence. “She’s doing well enough, Eve,” the ghost replied, casually enough. “Doctor Einhart is going to be out this afternoon and he asked me to talk to a few of the patients on his behalf. If this is a bad time, I can always call by later.”
The phantom raised the guard’s shoulders in a shrug as he spoke, indicating that there was presumably no understanding the eccentricities of the hospital’s new chief administrator. Unfurling the note from his jacket pocket, he handed it to Eve in support of his words. Perhaps it might be better for him to return when the session was finished, for if the girl was that badly shaken up he doubted he could make much headway as Tom Bradley. Nor did he have any particular intention of scaring off a valuable member of staff by revealing the restless ghost currently in possession of the unfortunate guard’s mortal form.

OOC: If it helps, Hiram will be relying on his specialty in ‘Lying’ to steer him through this one.

The hidden beauty?

William unconciously kept stroking his face. It was long since he had last been so well-shaven. He didn't like having a beard, but the only times he shaved he usually did it with a knife or something of the like. Shaving-foam and razors were a rare commodity to William, who usually didn't care.

The same applied to his clothing. He felt really out of place, but he couldn't say he complained when he looked in the mirror. This Majere-guy seemed to be happier now that William was clean and well-dressed, and William decided that was good enough. He was probably going to be working with him for a while, so better to keep him happy.

He'd left the weapons he took from the dead werewolves at Ren's club. He didn't really have a place to store them. Another bad thing about not having his trenchcoat was that if he had to change form, he'd have nothing to hide his nudity. He'd have to stay in his Wolf-form. Not that he was planning on changing anytime soon. He didn't know how much Dorian had told Majere, but he wasn't about to give his true nature away. He couldn't deny the fact that he was amused when he saw Ren try to hide his annoyance of his driver's disobediance, however.

As they exited the limo, they were approached by a man standing outside the library. William simply looked at Ren and let him do the talking. Despite being able to sound sophisticated when he needed to, William wasn't really a good talker. He somehow always said the wrong thing. Or, rather, the right thing to get himself into trouble. He was curious about the order Ren gave the man, however. How was it his duty to help people find books in the middle of the night?

He simply shook his head subtly and kept stroking his face where the stubble used to be. It really was as smooth as a baby's butt.

Eve smiled. “Tom,” she said, “you were never a good lier and I can’t say you have improved much. That new head doctor may think he knows stuff, but if he is letting guards do a doctor’s work he belongs in a straight jacket himself.” She walked to the door but did not the room. “I’ve been working with this girl since this morning, and I haven’t made any progress since then. If you think I am going to let you stay here and make it worse, you’re sadly mistaken.”

“Hiram?” Annabell’s voice was hardly even whispering, but the specter could still hear it. The girl needed to talk to him, and Eve just stood in his way.

My master would not approve.”

Downward Spiral

“Tom, you were never a good liar and I can’t say you have improved much. That new head doctor may think he knows stuff, but if he is letting guards do a doctor’s work he belongs in a straight jacket himself. I’ve been working with this girl since this morning, and I haven’t made any progress since then. If you think I am going to let you stay here and make it worse, you’re sadly mistaken.”
Again, Hiram was struck by a sudden twinge of exasperation. His inability to fault the way Eve was doing her job as a doctor didn’t much help matters- he probably wouldn’t have allowed an untrained security guard access to his patients either. Still, whether she knew it or not, the fact of the matter was that he was a skilled professional in his own right and his work here was at least as important as her own and the ghost had little intention of permitting itself to be sidetracked.

“Hiram,” Annabell whispered, and the phantom was hit by a fresh wave of paternal concern. Something had hurt the girl, and the dead psychologist was forced to fight down the urge to comfort her, to move heaven and earth to set matters to rights and destroy whoever- or whatever- had terrified her.

Handing the official notice Einhart had signed over to the doctor, the ghost phrased a second fabrication, feigning a smile and an expression of incredulousness. “I know,” he replied, “I couldn’t believe it either. Read the note if you don’t believe me, or better yet call Doctor Einhart yourself. He was quite insistent that I do as he instructed, and I like this job, so it didn’t seem wise to refuse.”
Hiram hoped she would simply swallow the lie and move on: he had no particular desire to harm any of his doctors for simply doing their jobs, though he had little doubt that he would be willing to do so if she forced the issue. No doubt this must all seem terribly irregular, and, if presented with similar circumstances, Hiram would have been wary himself, but the fact of the matter was that he had official permission and Doctor Mullins had no further right to stand in his way.

Hiram’s patience had already been worn paper thin, his energies bled to the point of exhaustion by the past day’s exertion. A temptation was emerging in some part of the spectre’s fevered brain to bring the issue to a head, revealing his form in all its unnatural horror and feasting upon the doctor’s warm breath until she blacked out or fled in terror. Had he still been capable of sensation then he would have had no doubt that his form was bitterly cold, chilled by the frozen earth of a grave some seven decades closed. Doctor Mullins could no doubt spare him a little, the voice nagged, and the stolen warmth would reinvigorate his vital energies, leaving him stronger and better prepared for the struggle ahead. Angrily, the phantom fought the impulse down, there was no crime to be punished here and he refused to set a dangerous precedent by allowing himself to overstep the bounds of the role he had decided for himself, but in truth his patience was nearing its end. Either Eve Mullins would yield to the hospital’s authority and step aside, or the hungry spectre would take action to remove the decision from her hands.

Change of tactics

William shook his head as the man refused to follow Ren's orders. Not to mention the man's demeaning words about William's "kind". It was time for a change of tactics, not that Ren would like it.

He grabbed the man's clothes and pinned him up against the wall. Staring him straight in the eye, he spoke in a calm and collected voice.

"Listen here. You will do as my 'friend' here tells you", he said while putting a special emphasis on 'friend'. "Also, you will make no references to my 'kind' whatsoever, as I am sure you are way out of your league. Otherwise, I'm going to have to remove your 'accessories'. Try serving your master without eyes and fingers or after having all the tendons in your legs severed."

Down boy DOWN

Ren had to hold back not to sneer when the ghoul responded, it was bad enough to fail at ensnaring someones thoughts, but much worse to fail ensnaring a bloody low-life ghoul. But there was one thing that slightly made up for the failure, the word "Kind". He had been pretty damn sure that the brute wasn't completely human, why would someone like Dorian be interested in such trash? This confirmed it, but the question was still open to what he was, looking at the mans disgusted response he would have to guess either either a Frankenstein freak or a werewolf, although he could of course also be some abomination Ren had never heard off. He had predicted this reaction but he didn't have the trained warrior instinct William had. But as soon as a window opened when William stopped his growling he took his chance.

"CALM DOWN WILLIAM"

He growled as he positioned himself besides him and struck his shoulder lightly in order to get his attention. He could understand the mans anger and annoyance but meeting rudeness with more rudeness only showed that you are the lesser of the two. This man needed some serious training in handling social situations if he was to be around Ren much, he would get torn apart if he had to bring him before the other Invictus in town for some reason.

(Dominate 1 on the word CALM)

Ghost
Longchester Hospital for the Insane

“This is insane,” Eve said, as much to Hiram as to herself. “And are you just going to do whatever that guy tells you to do, even at the risk of the patients?” Hiram could see that Eve was really annoyed about all this.
“Come on, Tom,” she said after rubbing her forehead, something Hiram remembered having noticed that she did when she was annoyed. “I’m not leaving you here in this room to talk to a patient. If that arse of a German sees a problem with that, I’m gonna report him to the hospital’s comittee.”

Eve walked up to the door. In a split second, Hiram would have to make a choice. He could either walk out of there with her or take some measures in order to be able to talk to Annabell alone for a few minutes. Either way, he did not have much time to think about it.

The ghoul looked straight back at William’s stare, intimidated by his actions and threats. William saw it in his eyes that he would not make any remarks about his kind again, or at least not to his face.

"CALM DOWN WILLIAM"
Ren’s voice had power, but William did not feel its effects. William had still full control over his own actions, and he didn’t feel like calming down in the sence of letting this guy go.

“V-very well,” the ghoul said shakingly, still petrified by William’s threats. “I will lead you to master Salomon. B-but please, if I let his... a werewolf into the library strictly for vampires he won’t let me see another morning.”

((OOC: Gerald, William is turning his back to Ren, which kinda rules out establishing eye-contact))

Revelation

William tried not to show his surprise as the man blurted out 'Werewolf' and 'Vampire' so easily. He'd suspected the man knew of his nature, but he had been hoping the reference to his 'kind' had been to big, burly men and not the Uratha. He'd also suspected Vampire involvement, seeing as the Library was open at night. He gave his companion a suspicious eye. He couldn't say, but he suspected the skinny fellow of being one of them. Dorian wouldn't have bothered with just your average club-owner.

"Do not order me around, Mr. Majere", he said calmly, although he wanted to rip the man's windpipe out and crush it on his face. "We are here for a purpose, and it seems your methods are ineffective".

He looked back at the man, looking him straight in the eye again, almost smelling his fear. Then he shrugged and nodded in Ren's direction.

"Don't worry about him, he's housetrained. Lead the way", he said with a hint of amusement in his voice as he gave him a suggestive shove in the right direction and nodded to Ren to come along.

Third time lucky?

Hiram was struck again by a surge of all-too familiar irritation. After a long, exhausting day, and sleepless, brutal night, the last ebbs of his patience were already running dry. The temptation to feed was almost overpowering, to remove the obstacle in his wake with one sudden, swift burst of violence and replenish the embers of his dead, empty shell in the process with the warmth of stolen life. He could leave Eve Mullins crumpled, unconscious, dead even and none but himself would be any the wiser… and then what? Destroy one of the few doctors who actually shared, and even surpassed, his care for the hospital’s patients? Leave one of his guards, a man with a family to support no less, facing charges of assault- murder even- when he was discovered next to the doctor's smothered body? The thought left a bitter taste in the spectre’s mouth. No, he promised himself, he would feast soon and feast well- but now was not the place. A more worthy victim must be chosen: one who had committed some sort of tangible trespass against the hospital’s sanctity and whose removal would serve the old place he was sworn to protect, not merely his own exhaustion and unnatural hunger.

Which left conciliation as his only recourse in dealing with the matter at hand. Obviously, he was a less convincing liar than he had thought, and the easiest, simplest way of dealing with the matter at hand would be to simply come clean. More than that, he was tired of dissembling and, after all, maybe Doctor Mullins deserved to know the truth behind her hospital’s success.

As the spectre willed itself to reappear, its tired remains hastened to obey. Tendrils of white, foggy vapour spewed forth from Tom Bradley’s nostrils, ears and mouth, gathering in a cloud above the possessed security guard's head until Hiram had taken form once more. The guise of the genial, middle-aged man in the doctor’s coat hovered patiently in mid air, and the apparition's mouth opened and closed emptily, but the voice that issued forth came from Tom Bradley’s own mouth. The man twitched uneasily as the phantom spoke through him, his lips forming about the words of the ghost's tired intonation, accented by the alien tones of a university English a near century deceased.

“Doctor Mullins,” the spectre began, in an almost apologetic tone, “I must confess that Tom Bradley is not at home right now. And, much as it might gall me to admit it, Doctor Einhart is not to blame here either. You’ve been working at the hospital for quite some time now, and I’m sure you’ve noticed that things operate a little differently around here. You may recall events a few months past, when Ben Edwards had a coronary arrest and something guided you down two floors to save his life. You may have noticed that the sort of staff members inclined to abuse or steal from the patients in their care don’t tend to stay long. I’ve been watching over this place for quite some time now and, while your concern for your patient’s well being does you credit, I can assure you, the girl is quite safe with me.”

“Now, if you would prefer to leave, I've no intention of stopping you. Believe me, I'm quite willing to be civilized here. Should you wish, I will even permit you to take Tom Bradley with you when you go. I, meanwhile, will stay here and talk to my patient. Someone, or something, has obviously terrified her, and I must know what has transpired so that due action can be taken. I can assure you that, unlike Tom Bradley, I’m perfectly well qualified for the job.”

“Alternatively, if you require further evidence that my intentions are altogether amicable, then, please, take a seat and join us. By all means, stay and see for yourself that I mean your patient no harm whatsoever.”

My long awaited post.

Piers went running after his mentor getting only partially distracted by the distractions from the last time he had a mission this time. Ryozo had info and he was going to get it. This was important and just because he didn't want to admit it was happening didn't mean it wasn't. When he reached the outside he continued to run till he caught up with him.

"Ryozo we need to talk. I can tell you don't want to admit this is happening. Shot I don't want to admit half the things that happen to me really but I don't get much choice in the matter. Even if you tell me not to chase this I will still have to I have no choice I am involved for some reason already and I get the sense I wont be allowed to leave it. I know it will be dangerous and I know I would have a better chance with you by my side or at least the info you have would help. I have given all the info I have on it but you haven't given me all you have. I will do this without you if you wish to sit this one out if need be."

He waited for Ryozo's response.
