Clerics and other Divine Casters

So .. I am being asked to play in a group that is in need of a divine caster. The cleric they had dropped. It is level 11 and I wanted to know if anyone had any cool suggestions for something that would be a divine caster, be able to heal well but would not be too boring to play. Prestige classes, cleric combos .. etc .. what ideas/info does anyone have on this topic?

a few ways to go

You could choose any of teh follwing to make an intersting cleric:
1) the "friar tuck" type merry guy who lovs to eat/drink, make jokes and hides form combat

2) the up-armored, close combat type who attacks first and heals only after battle

3) the secretive, reserved intellect type who is more at home in the research library but is forced to go on an adventure

hehe

Well, one day I made this character, which I only got to play a few times, because it was with a group who played far too much for me to attend every time. So he grew rapidly in XP without really earning it, just so he could stay alive. Still, he saved the group several times.

anyways... he was called: The Undertaker. The character was more like an entity, and could not remember who he was exactly, where he came from; he just was the Undertaker. His goal in life was putting undead back to rest, or as he said it: "Help the people who missed their own funeral."

he was awesome to play, mysterious, powerful enough in a clerical way, undead mennace supreme, and in no way the best combination of classes ever.

hmmmm, I thought I would have his character sheet somewhere, but I can't find it..

anyway, he was a cleric, prestige class Radiant Servant of Pelor (complete divine), you'll like the 2nd level powers from that one if you need to heal people.

feats: exalted smite, nimbus of light, Holy Radiance (all from book of Exalted Deeds), some more probably, but can't remember those.

well, that's kind of what he was like... good charisma is always a plus for a cleric.

Hope you can do something with that.

Though this post is a few years old....

When it comes to clerics I have found for the most part it simply comes down to the RPing.
Though I play 3.5 I make good and solid use of my 2ed Priests handbook for how to play the different aspects of the cleric class. (though I do have a bit of a leg up in playing a cleric)

From my experience IMO adding prestige classes to single class clerics tends to weaken them, or set them on such a specific path that they are less than useful in other situations.

So I would just look at the way you RP the character rather than add more to it.
