Warmage...

So long as he meets the money requirements (thus changing items and adjusting stats accordingly I don't mind Nebluos.

I want to join! I see it says six max so I think I am in. I will do my post later as I am in school right now though. I was thinking of playing a hobgoblin, not sure what class yet.

I say again: "kuleness!"

Don't have the necessary tomes to create the warmage character myself. I am interested to see how he plays out.

Well it looks like the group needs a fighter, so I think I will be one. I thought about it and now I want to be a bugbear, is that alright with you Kaelyn? Level four is perfect, since they come with 3 levels of monster, and I can do one level of barbarian.

Oh and heres my paragraph thing.

The shadows dance and cavort around the clearing you have chosen to make camp in. The late autumn breeze fights the mediating warmth of the campfire to send shivers down your spine. Daybreak will come soon, but the constant feeling of hungry eyes staring over you is enough to keep you from some much needed rest. Gazing out between the silent trees of the surrounding forest, a fleeting glimpse of movement darts from cover to cover, shadow to shadow…

Vreksnarl poked at the fire again, the red hot embers floating into the air, just to fade away into the empty blackness that surrounded him on all sides. Surely this was the kind of dark that people talked about that came just before dawn. Here it is said when the worst things come out at night, and from what He has seen, that was true.
But none of these things really scared Vreksnarl, they just unnerved him. His muscles were cold and tense, his back fighting the early morning chill, and his legs sweating to keep cool. It was an explosion of the senses all night long as things kept him on high alert. But he dared one of these unfortunate creatures to come at him, he would crush with his massive great club and then eat it for breakfast. That only saved him time, instead of having to go and catch his meals.

A twig snapped far to his right, but closer than anything he had heard before. His first reaction was to grab one of his finely made javelins out of their home, and aim it in the noises direction. Slowly he got up, keeping the point towards the noise, his knees creaking as loudly as the trees in the quietness that suddenly befell him.

Another rustle out from a bush, a snarl and a yip, something was there... something that sounded hungry. But to bad for it that Vreksnarl was quite hungry himself.

He steadied his movements as he rose to his full height, the flames now licking at waist height, warming his lower body.

Another quick movement and a flash of grey, followed quickly by glowing eyes. Vreksnarls arm sprang forward like a catapult being released. The javelin flew through the darkness, the air making a quiet scream as it ripped it all the way to the target. Suddenly a shrill and loud cry of pain echoed through the morning air. Birds could be heard flying from their nests into the deep blue of the morning sun, woken prematurely from their sleep.

Vreksnarl walked slowly over to his kill, spreading the cold damp bushes out of the way to see a quivering body of what looked like a man.

Vreksnarl smiled slightly and bent down to expect further. Its ears were pointed, and body more slender. An elf! Vreksnarl licked his lips and started to drag the now limp body towards his dieying fire, the grey and white fure cloak of the elf dragging behind it.

Actually...

Bugbears are actually ECL 4 all on their own --> 3 levels of monster plus 1 for the level adjustment. Adding 1 level of Barbarian would make them ECL 5.

Wow....

This looks so interesting that my spine is tingling. Of course on the other hand, I'm currently making a character for another game, though that game promises to be short, so perhaps this looks even better.

Of course, I have to first make a good character, complete with background, which I've done I think once before (and am trying to do again for Filthy Theif) I don't know if my quality of writing is up to standard, though I would like to apply for a position anyway. What kinds of party roles are desired?

I will find my better samples of writing later so I can officially apply. At 11:17 here though, I will get some sleep and do stuff in the morn.

Edit: Haha, I realized sometime after I logged off last night that the writing involved said paragraph, I'll just get to that soon.

May I ask a question?

By the number of posts, you can tell that I am new here. I am not in this game, although the premise sounds really good. While not new to gaming, I am new to this forum and format. I ask to learn about something I don't know or don't understand, and I don't understand this:

Hobgoblin, bugbear ... why the focus on evil types? I know the DM said any alignment. I have nothing against evil characters, but the DM has placed so many restrictions on an evil character that it would not make sense to me to play one.

For those of us (like me) who don't have a perfect knowledge of Faerun's geography.

Darromar lies in the southwest of the mainland.

The second box from the left on the bottom, zoom in to just below the 'E' in Tethyr.

well I like to play as hoblins or bugbears because they are things that i havent really played as yet. And they dont really need to be evil, i can make them whatever alignment I want. Probably CN. If Kaelyn says ok. And I dont want to play a human barbarian becuase that is just, boring.

Okayyy ...

But what reasoning could you give for either one to choose to associate with beings that they would normally eat, or at least kill for the heck of it?

Or for them to eschew their racial alignment preference?

Not to mention the persecution either would face as a creature that most adventurers hunt down to eradicate. Well, except evil ones who want big, bad lackeys (in my own experience). Either one seems like a short-lived character, at best.

It is not my place to say yea or nay as to the acceptance of the character you want to play. I don't know you well enough to say you're wrong, and I don't have all the volumes you evidently have. The idea sounds challenging, but even I can't imagine how to make it work ...

See, thats the magic of DnD. You can make whatever you want into real life. Like Kaelyn said, this is FR, Kaelyn style. He said we can use many different races that he had already created, so I do not see how being a bugbear could be different from being a fairy. They are just as different from the base races. And Maybe Kaelyn is making all of the people less racist and more accepting, and making the alignment more scewed and greyish instead of black and white. Everything in DnD is kinda like a big block of Clay, you can make it into whatever you want. even in the DMG, it says that the books are all just guidelines for you as the player and DM to follow and alter and use at your own expense.

Oh, I see, alright ...

I kinda feel like I asked you to justify yourself, and that was not my intent. I still don't understand your reasoning, but I am not here for you to satisfy. It's your game, not mine.

Best I shut up. :-/
