...

it's the warlock that's insecure about his abilities being overlooked.

It's the bard, the font of self-confidence, that wants to kidnap you.

Or something. I'm confused. Why are we kidnapping her?

Bronwyn

,identity confusion. See, poor Bronwyn doesn't know who is who.Is the bard good looking. Perhaps Bronwynis waiting for a Prince Charming to swept her off her feet.

No, not her, she doesn't like nobles The local lord left a bad taste in her mouth for nobility. After the death of her mentor and friend Magda, he spread rumors that she was incompetent jump-up farm girl. Rather than stay to fight the rumors because the one that knew was now dead, she left.

One day though when she had proved her wroth she hopes to return and confront him. But that is a girl's fream of justice.

Is back!!

After a rather abrupt loss of a roommate and the internet, I've got it reconnected and am back... Will plan to update by the following monday.. So roleplay, please list any downtime options (Brianna) and what not going on..

I'll be spending this week rereading all the past few posts and q/a banter, and trying to reconsitute this game into it's glory with a much needed post on my part.

Welcome

I'm afraid I should remain out of commission for a little while to come, an essay, a spring concert, and assignment, and a group-project deadline are happening this week off the top of my head. Sure there have been worse stress-causers in the history of the world, but I'm pretty much wrapped up here.

See you all if I survive! (Don't feel too sorry for me, I'm a whiner and a drama king)

...

I haven't posted in a long time, so I thought I'd put something up.

I also noticed that we passed the '1000' post mark for the game. Hopefully there'll be 1000 more ahead.

Fingers to the keyboard

and as I told Brianna earlier... The update is underway..
Yes it is 2:35 in the morning, yes I am hyped up on a slew of meds for this damn viral infection, and yes I 'hope' it is worthy of the lack of posting I've done over the past weeks.

I

'Twas an enjoyable read--now let's see if I can finish my breakfast post in time to go kill goblins.

*Should still technically be a bit busy*

IMPORTANT NOTE ON ITEM CREATION

Alright, I've implemented my own House rules on Item creation. It has been argued as long as I've played casters that spells and item creation that require XP costs are flawed, for the removal of xp in a manifested sense would be like saying you've suddenly forgotte nthe last week of your life because you made that +1 longsword. (While I've roleplayed such to some fun, I tend to agree with the statements)

As such. Those capable of spells with XP costs, or Magic Item creation, now on the first summary post have what is known as a Item creation xp pool. THis pool is devised by the players level x's 100.
We'll use Bronwyn as an example.

Bronwyn the 5th level mage has a XP pool specifically for spells and item creation of up to 500xp. (5x100)
What this means is Bronwyn's magic item creation will borrow the XP cost of making those items from this pool instead of removing it from her character sheet.

Experience Gained in the future however will replenish this pool before being added ot her character sheet. Thusly, magic item creation still slows the progression of the character, but at a more realistic rate.

Going forward with this example.
Bronwyn had stated she wished to make scrolls of fireball.
The formula for magic item creation is thus.
1day / 1000gp of the items Base price defined for scrolls as 25gold x caster level x spell level, thus putting her fireball scrolls base price @ 375 gold. [25x(3x5)]
Bronwyn pays 1/2 the base price in materials and casts her spells into the page. (Bronwyn has 2 fireballs prepared knowing she wants to try and make scrolls)
1/2 of 375=187.5gp / scroll
187.5gp x2 scrolls =375gp (deducted from your gold total bronwyn)
(MArket Price is typically Base Price in DMG or PHB thus each scroll would sell for roughly 375gp (higher or lower given situations and supply and demand)

The Creator (Bronwyn) of the scroll must also pay 1/25th of the Base price (375) in XP..
375/ 25 (or 1/25th) =15XP / scroll.
15XP x2 scrolls =30XP taken from Bronwyn's XP pool.
Bronwyn has used 30/500 xp points.
the next 30 xp Bronwn makes will replenish this pool first before more is added to her character..

TIME FOR CREATION
The formula for magic item creation states that it takes 1 day / 1000g of an items base price. I take 1 day of work as a dedicated 8 hours.

Thusly if the Fireball scroll in question's base price is 375gold, a little over a third of the 1000g limit, then in hours it will take Bronywn a little over 3 hours to produce one scroll. Thus she was able to make 2 in her work day (plus she has no more fireball spell slots)
Leaving the minimum 8 hours rest for spell replenishment and to avoid fatigue penalties, that gives bronwyn roughly 8 hours a day to do with as she pleases.

Should she wish to try her hand at more creation she is free to do so, so long as she does not
a) run out of money for supplies
b) run out of Xp in her xp pool
c) run out of time.. should she choose to push into her 'rest time, she will recieve penalties on both item creation and the standard penalties for fatigue)

I hope this encourages item creation feats in the future, and simplifies things.

I have to say

This idea works beautifully. It really doesn't change XP costs in any significant way other than that you have a limit on how much you can get away with, and that you are able to use XP costs even just after leveling up (when the cost would normally drop you to the previous level).

I'm going to have to say that I like it. The only problem that could be possibly posed by this is that the high XP costs of some spells might eliminate a large portion of your pool, and be annoyingly unable to be cast again, but when looked at seriously, you're probably not going to get to the point where the XP cost of a spell is so high that your XP pool is mostly consumed by it--not to mention that the monsters you kill by the end of the battle will have put off the cost of the spell.

I guess the only other thing is that epic casters would like to have the limits of the pool expanded somewhat, as XP cost is one of the several things that are frequently used to balance an epic spell into the castable range.

I think it's good.

we can work on the limitations of the pool

and epic casters when we come to that fork in the road shall we?
Wouldn't be hard to make a feat called Expand Spell Pool

Metamagic: Expand Spell Pool: Increase Spell pool XP total as though your Caster level were 2 levels higher.

Metamagic: Improved Spell pool
Prerequisites:Lvl 6 Expand Spell Pool:
"Increase your Spell Pool XP total by 500"

Metamagic: Ultimate Spell Pool:
Prerequisites: Lvl 12, Expand Spell Pool, Improved Spell Pool
"Spell pool total modifier is now lvl x200"

or something.

I think it's a funky system too for all the reasons that have been listed.

Slight problem with formula of costs for XP

Cost of materials for item creation is 1/2 cost of item 1/2 of 375 = 187.5 which you have fine.

XP cost is 1/25th cost of item (375

1/25 = .04 not .25 as you made it .25

it is (1/25 x base cost in DMG) 1/25 x 375 = 375/25 = 15 XP PER acroll fof fireball

confused

Have we met this "Ol' Willy" before? I'm assuming yes because he's acting like he's familiar with us or connected to the outpost in some way.

Just wanted to confirm before posting.
