I find this funny

I went to the store today to buy a container to put somethings in and I find this funny on the bottom of the container lid is a sticker of a toddler sitting in the container and it has a warning. I find it funny since the container I bought was like 8in. by 1ft. by like 6 in. deep a toddler or anyone wouldn't fit in it. I find it even funnier because they either put that one there to be safe or someone actually tried it.

Toddlers in containers

Well they have warnings on hair dryers telling you not to use it while asleep or in the showever.

Covering their bases legally.

Warning! May contain nuts!

As I recall, several bags of nuts actually have labeled on them "Warning! May contain nuts!"

Only an idiot would not expect to find any nuts in a bag of nuts. Seriously.

makes me think...

That's almost as odd as on the label for children's tylenol..."Do not drive, do not operate heavy machinery" and stuff like that...I'm sure children will do all of that.

list

Somewhere floating around the internet is a list of stupid "legal" phrases found on items. I remember the nuts and the childrens medicine one from it. There's a few other good ones there too.

Litigation Nation

Thanks to stupid people doing stupid things and then finding someone they could sue for damages, companies have to add warnings to protect themselves.

I remember a 60 Minutes episode from years ago about a ladder manufacturer who was running out of room on his ladders for all the warnings he had to include after lawsuits. The latest warning was to not use the ladder on a warm manure pile...after a farmer had done just that. The ladder shifted in the soft manure and the guy fell, injuring his back.

yeah...

people think of the most stupid things in order to get money, so they don't have to work and such.

Cruise Control

This one actually happened.

A man bought a brand new Winnebago travel coach and was driving down a highway. He started to get tired, so he put the mechanized beast on cruize control, got OUT of the drivers seat and went to make himself a cup of coffee. He obviously crashed and totalled out the coach.

He sued the Winnebago company because the owners guide did not say that cruise control meant you had to stay in the drivers seat. He said the phrasing was misleading. He won the lawsuit.

:)

Yes well. To us on the old continent these lawsuits on your side of the big A seem ridiculous to say the least. Apparently there's no such thing as common sense when it comes to paying for damage caused by the misuse of a product.

Two options pop to my mind right away: either people on the NA continent are really, really, really stupid. This option I _don't_ buy even if the level of general education may be lower than that in Finland. Education doesn't go hand in hand with common sense. Then again putting a cat into a microwave oven to dry it would imply the person in question is incredibly stupid. Same could be said about the Winnebago driver ofc.

Option 2: The law is incredibly stupid. Even if people would be paid for doing absolutely foolish things, the compensation should be reasonable, not related to a company's revenue allowing these million class compensations.
