heh

I don't think Al was gonna delete ALL the games, just "last one to post here, wins". He's mentioned declaring a winner and starting it over.

I DO need to look at some code to hide some of those pages, though. 220+ is too many links.

Hehe

Maybe just show the last page?

And declaring a winner ruins the joke I say!

wheesh...take a breath folks!

I just meant that when a thread gets deleted (for the reason Olan mentioned...being inactive) the post counts go down, and so, post counts are largely irrevelant.

I don't mind them but am not necessarily "into" them...but if it's traffic on the site...I'm ok with it.

Yay

So good to know that my threads can actually be used for something, even if it is hijacked and the discussion changed completely.

I think that "last post wins" games is becoming a tad bit too much. I don't think that your posting counts should go down, however, since these count how often you have posted and not how many of your posts have not been deleted.
If it is a 'glitch' in the forums, then fate is a cruel mistress, and deserves to be shot.

Your post-count is just that. A count. When your posts are removed, the site doesn't count them anymore, so your number goes down.

This is true

That is understandable.

I am questioning what would happen to karma accrued in those threads however. Would that disappear as well?

heh

Depends on the point of view I guess. I like to think of it as how often you have posted, and thus how active you are, and not how many posts you have alive.

It is like say "I've had 5 dogs, but 2 died so I've only ever had 3." But like I said, it depends on the point of view, and I don't think mine counts for much

Joking

I was just joking around about deleting all the posting games... How could anyone take that post as serious? Relax people! Go get a Blizzard from DQ and chill.

this is not a bug, it's a feature!

The post count definition was correct. think of it not as a count of every post you've ever made here on the site - heck, with the crashes in the past, NO ONE'S post count would be right by that standard.

Instead, think of it as a count of the posts you currently have on the boards.

Karma is different. Karma is forever. Deleting a thread does not remove the karma you have earned.

<><><>

In the name of World Domination I would like to offer up my thread "First One To Post Last" as the first sacrifice on the altar of wasteful space

Actually, I NEVER expected anyone to take it seriously, it was just a play on Olan's "Last One to Post" thread but then it took on a life of it's own...kinda like "Frankenpost"

Personally, I'm all for deleting stuff that's extraneous (like the first 200 pages of the "last one to post" thread) - honestly, I think it adds meaning to the post-count thing. Whatever floats your boat. I did recently notice that I'm still the most hated person on the forums, so I guess I'm doing my job, though I find myself wondering if campaigning for thread deletions would add to the effect...
