Riva wears her straight hair just above her jawline. As with most Bajorans, she appears almost identical to a human, save the telltale nose creases. In her right ear, she always wears a fairly large silver earring comprised of chain, filigree, and hoops - this is a symbol of her faith.

Riva comes from a family of refugees from the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. Her mother was killed in the occupation, and her father - a merchant - was able to smuggle her away. Her older brother, Kal, remains on Bajor and is active in the resistance there. |

Riva (Bajorans always go by their second name, as their first name is actually the family name) is an intensely spiritual person, fervent in her beliefs around the Prophets. Do not, however, mistake her spirituality for mellowness; even her closes friends would refer to Riva as "intense". She is very focused on her duties, and can come across as rather aggressive. |
