A bird in the hand...

SD - A couple of quick questions:
1. From the footprints, can we get any sort of idea of the size of our quarry? Bare feet I take it?
2. Does the spear look like it might have been thrown from the tree at the dogs? Could whoever is in the tree grab it and yank it upwards to use again?
3. Is there anythign odd looking about the tree, besides the dude hanging out in it?

To the group:
I think we want to quiet the dogs so they don't attract more attention. I also think we should try talking to this fellow - as has already been noted, nothing says he is a bad guy. I think we talk to the guy, get the dogs away and maybe grab the spear before he/she/it can get it back. What says the crowd? Also, in what langauges can the crowd speak? I'm guessin' it isn't a dwarf up the tree, although that would be fairly funny.

I probably won't be around for a few more days so if someone else wants to post the group resonse that would be great. I don't want to do it with only one or two responses to circumstances and not knowing SD's response to the questions above.

answers

1.) the footprints are broad but not very wide spaced somewhat deep with longish toes.

2.) the spear appears to be stuck into the ground but does not appear to have been thrown with force. fairly vertical.

3.) all appears normal about the the tree except for the strange odor emmitted.

Ok group, any thoughts?

Think it might be a halfling - Rat?

Any ideas about the smell?

I'd think we might want to call back the dogs and surround the tree - than try to talk them down. Any others thoughts?

I think...

Calling back the dogs and surrounding the tree could be a good thing to attempt.

Agreeingly

Rat says surround the trees a few feet away, standing alternately opposite directions sideways to watch up the tree AND anything that may want to attack from elsewhere, calling back the dogs.

Was that an implication that halflings smell, DeGotti? Or do you smell a rat? Both use Aqua Velva, you know. Old (actually REALLY old) habits never die.

Until Monday....

I have very limited access to the web. I will follow Anvil's lead. Covering the rear is my job, so I will do that with GUSTO!

Confusion spell?

And here we were trying to be friendly....

Suggestions? Anyone feel like walking close and peering upwards into the branches?

Being very quick

with great climbing abilities, grapling hooks and ropes, would be glad to scamper up for a quick look. Being light, he can enter from the lighter limbs outside. He may need a back up arrow trained to help him.

We may also consider throwing something of value (food) up the tree to show implied friendship?

I don't...

think anyone should post on the other thread until after I do. That is all I can say on the matter.

I will try to post something tonight or tomorrow.

Looks like...

We need someone with some speed and/or agility to run and get the satchel that fell.

Maybe Rat?

Need a respirator

I'll be brainstorming in the following lines, so just bear with it and pick out any useful information or point out inconsistencies it the conclusions:

Whatever took down T'Sal, I would think is NOT magical because of elven resistances to spells like sleep, charm, etc (though those may not extend to confusion and the like). If it isn't magical, then it is biological/poisonous and would probably fare poorly against someone with a high constitution.

I'm basing all of this on the putrid smell that we are taking in as we near the tree. It may be that we have all succumbed to it already, but T'sal was just the first to go down to it.

In conclusion, if you want someone to get the satchel, I'll do it, or I'll go get T'Sal. Or, point to a spot in the tree and I'll put an arrow through it! I'll wait for the boss's orders before I do anything though.

Busy

I have been busy for a few day. A bit slow I guess.

Uh, I'm hesitant to run get the bag, but if Rat wants to do so....

I think if T'Sal is saying stay away we should stay away.

I would think rescue the group member first.

Degotti

are we waiting on you to post first. In lieu of nothing else, Rat is going to hold his breath, run and grab the satchel.

We do not know yet how to pull the elf back without succombing ourselves. If the breath-holding works .....
