Quest Completed

Hey Owen, you and I have completed a quest. I know we did not get any encounters, but do we get some experience for our dedication to our goals? I ain't asking for a level up, just something in the ways of character development. Perhaps some points towards Law as well xD.

Alright, I promised it a while back, but here it is

Click Here If you're desperate to look at the old map

This is updated as per the end of the surprise round. I don't think there's really a lot to add here. Those red dots indicate that the character is holding a torch and shedding light.

The pools of gray are to show where the 'spots of shadow' are, but most probably wouldn't grant any concealment (especially against an enemy with Darkvision), count the larger pools as dim illumination.

Except for in a rectangle just above us and a logical spread outward toward the ceiling, on top of the loft is considered dark/no illumination (hint, you would die if you went up there to try to hide).

Hay lays strewn about the barn in corners (mostly in the stalls and a good deal stored in the loft) application of torch or other ignition to these dry mounds of tinder might be very fatal to all involved. Judicious application of ignition to the barn itself will also bring death, given enough time to catch fire.

(EDIT: Alright, it looks like the red dots are invisible, so just remember that Ian, Galen, and Myself (the three in the middle there) are holding torches.)

After First Full Round of Combat

Alright, you might notice a slightly darker spot just above the door that looks like the Hound. That is where it was last seen. The ladder is that line in the top corner. The light black is darkness, you need darkvision to see up there. The area around the roof of the barn is in full illumination, it's just the space immediately above the loft (since the floor is blocking the torch-light from below) that is dark.

Also remember: Shields are useless while climbing and you need at least one hand if you plan on going up. One-handed climbing the ladder is a pretty easy challenge, but swift climbing carries a -5 penalty. Two-handed climbing is incredibly easy, even swift climb would be near-effortless.

Pre-emptive map update that may not need a map.

Yo, there might be a new map up here soon, depending on Ray's next action.

Meanwhile, I'd just like it to be known (partially so that I don't forget anymore) that when a map shows the altitude of a creature, that number represents how much distance there is between the bottom of the creature's space and the ground. For example, land-bound peeps effectively have +0, and Ray at the top of the ladder that you don't see has 2 empty squares below him because it says +10 next to him. Of course, that means if you are a medium creature with 5-ft reach, you couldn't hit him unless he was in the square above you at +5. Make sense? I hope so, it took me a little while to remember what I did the second time I saw it.

Also, I'm thinking of a new enemy-status system. Uninjured will be 100%; Green status shall run between 76% health to 99.9%; Yellow will take the space between 51% and 75%; 'Bloodied' (since I like the 4e term) will be 26%-50%; Red Status is 11%-25%; and finally, a special status 'Near Death covers the final 10%, with Staggered being 0% and Dying filling in the negatives. I may later decide that 'Near Death' takes too much space and decrease it a bit, but it works for now.

Aquarious the Psicrystal

She is going to take the "Sage" personality with +3 to Religion. Owen can use her as he wills, let her talk as she might, and let her know whatever he thinks she should be allowed to know. I have altered this Psicrystal because though it is normally a psionic based creature, it is in part divine (as we all are). And as we ourselves do not really need Knowledge check to divine what a creature is necessarily (because of previous knowledge), so too am I allowing Aquarious to have her previous knowledge from her experiences as a subject for our goddess and god who summoned us. If there are any hating such an alteration, please mention it and I will change it. I am not trying to OP myself, I just want to add a little twist which make the story seem interesting and unique. Since I am not going to stay a psion forever, I am also allowing myself the ability to have a companion which can be used later when I switch to my other preferred classes. Thank you and enjoy my posts... now to have a shower and start on my essay(s)!!!

Manoeuvring into a position of greater wisdom

Long story short, CMB is your grapple modifier and CMD is your defence against. Since it's not really that long of a story:

CMB - Combat Manoeuvre Bonus
(BAB + Str + Size)
Your Combat Manoeuvre Bonus is very similar to what your grapple modifier did for you before, except that it applies to all Combat Manoeuvres, which include all those many-odd things that few people ever remembered existed (Trip, Sunder, Overrun, etc.). Essentially, it is so that you don't have to go look up what modifiers you apply to a Trip attack or a Sunder attack, they're all in one place.
Special: Tiny or smaller creatures us Dex, not Str. Also, Monks gain ability that lets them pretend they have a Good BAB when doing manoeuvres, making them a bad idea to grapple with.

CMD - Combat Manoeuvre Defence
(BAB + Str + Dex + Size + Some of the modifiers that apply to AC)
This is basically your AC against Combat Manoeuvres. Various things that apply to your AC (insight bonuses, deflection bonuses) also enhance your CMD. Unlike CMD, Tiny and smaller creatures don't get to substitute out their Str. I can't think of anything else to say for this.

For a complete list of Combat Manoeuvres, click here. It should be pretty much everything in the special attacks section from before.

Buy--Scale Mail, Heavy Steel Shield ~ 80G
Sell--Leather ~ 5G

Ben:
Buy--Scale Mail ~ 50G

Sell--Short Sword ~ 5G

Galen:
Sell--All those rusted weapons ~ 0.3G

F-to-the-A

Great post Owen. I am really wondering what is going on now... so what do we do with it? At the moment I cannot think of anything to post.

The one who pulls the strings...

... no, it's not me this time

Definitely adds some intrigue to the plot going on behind the scenes... now if only I could send my electron-packed R-type drone to spy o-wait, that's a different setting...

Next post? Never!

You know, I guess I completely forgot about my Q&A (namely that people might actually use it). I had no idea this discussion was here =P I was wondering if the random scene had reaction from my players whatsoever.

Aquarious

Does anyone even care that Aquarious is around? I am almost thinking of scraping her concept and pretending as if she never existed... and because we are taking so long, I might just convert my character sheet into Pathfinder now and become a pure fighter or cavalier... what say you alll.... Owen in particular.
