oh, right, Nori. I know nori. At the time however, i didn't, and recipes online weren't exactly helping me for some reason. Probably because i wasn't wise on japanese terms and foods like i am now (well, I'm not like you though!) I made the sushi long ago. Well, maybe just 8-9 months ago. When i went in the asian specialty store i was in a heaven of all kinds of things. And since this is the netherlands, they call things differently here than in english and chinese, japanese, etc. So i looked around for some farmiliar words and i recognized some words on the konbu. So i just picked that. It looked like the right stuff when it was dried Little did i know.

so nori it is! That will make my sushi perfect if i ever make it again. I really got tired of the kunbu. ick. But for now, I'm in love with sushi already made for me. It's expensive here, but i dish out the change once a month if i can for a little sushi or some maki. mm mm. This new store opened near my house just a couple of weeks ago, and they sell 10 pieces of sushi for only 4,98 euro. That's -amazing-. The rice isn't the best though. Falls everywhere. But I can live with that once in a while. Michiel and I are pretty darn good with the sticks! We eat with them 2-3 times a week. But with that crazy-rice sushi, chopsticks are pretty useless when trying to dip.
I prefer the maki they sell in the other store. 6-7 pieces for 6 euro. It's amazing, trully.

On Wasabi...wooo! I love a kick in the face with wasabi paste! haha

Oh, and no, i didn't use any sake for my rice. If i remember correctly, i used some suger and some kind of vinegar. It was great sushi rice though! very sticky and very tasty. I've never even tried sake before. For drinking or cooking.

Sushi, Pt. 2

It's actually a good thing you didn't use normal sake, as Mirin is the recommended ingredient. It isn't really important, though.

Sushi

I'm FAR too mistrustful of seafood to ever develop much of a taste for it. Although you make a good point about tuna - the poor people who have never had it except for shredded and mixed with mayo on a sandwich or something like that are missing out on one of the tastiest fish in the water - and one of the top sport fish as well.

For those of you who don't know, trust me, REAL tuna is is nothing like that. You haven't eaten tuna until you've fought a 300lb fish for four hours, the cleaned it yourself and eaten it fresh the same evening. It's like the difference between a seventeen-year-old Glenlivet and Wild Turkey.

Wasabi.

I remember having made a piece of sushi, which was about 2" across, and about 1" thick. I coated the top of it with about 1'8" of wasabi. The casual onlooker couldn't tell there was anything in it, as they couldn't see the filler for the wasabi on it. I thought I was going to die when I ate it, but it turned out I just had no sinus problems for about a month.

Wow, I didn't expect ot come back to find a thread dealing with my favourite food! I love sushi, though sashimi of any kind is really my favourite. After working out in Beijing for a month last summer I also got a taste for Taiwanese cuisine which was second only to the hot and spicy offerings from Sezchuan province.....Mmmmm...chicken in a thousand chilis...(literally!!)

Fellow Spicy food person

My spicy brother/sister!! Relish chiles, Wasabi, and Szechwan Cuisine...The red side are they. Once you start down the spicy path, forever will it dominate your pallet!

last night's quizine

Last night we had "Menu Sezchuan" from our favorite chinese/indonesian restaurant. We mostly always get that, unless we go in to dine and wok. You pick the ingredients yourself from the raw buffet bars, and they cook it for you. It's just like an american buffet, all you can eat, except it's finer and nicer and they do crazy tricks with the woks, haha. But you pick your sauce also. Like Sezchuan sauce, or garlic, or Kanton, or any of the other 10+ sauces they have. It's lovely, yes. And they always have the best part: The sushi.

ok all this talk of sushi and food is making me hungey

that's it i'm going out for squid bye.

hm.. deep questions....(thinking)

why is it that some words just make people laugh.
i have a friend that when ever you say eith watery peknuckle or hospital tongs she craks up?

why is it there are people that lagh for no reson and it so, contagiouse you just have to laugh?

now don't think i'm bad mouthing the army with this one , but how can you be an army of one? isan't an army a lot of people?

has anyone here eat starfruit before? i like then and i can't understand why?

if god came down right now and looked at the world do you think he would cry? if he came down and gave you one question what would you ask?

i belive life has a balance to it does anyone else belive that?

my answer on the god question

If god came down to earth, and so happened to allow me one question for him to answer, I would say: "Why didn't you make yourself more obvious of existance?"
If it turns out that he is the God we know from the bible, and the bible turns out to be entirely true, then i will add on: "Why didn't you make yourself more obvious of existance? So many people will burn in hell for eternity because of their factual nature. They had no proof, no hard evidence that you existed. It was impossible to prove who or what you were. Impossible to prove if the bible was really from you. Impossible to know the truth. That isn't just on your part to hold them accountable for something they cannot know."
Well, i would at least LIKE to say that, but I'm sure that if god really came down and was standing before me, i wouldn't be so angry at him. Afterall, he is God. What are you gonna do? Or moreso...what is HE gonna do? >_<
