Game on!

A good start, in my humble opinion.

For the unstarted players.
If you will let me know when you are ready to go in, I will begin your own intros. Please allow me to introduce each of you first.

Some of you have unfinished characters and some have not snet me anything yet. Please submit your sheets asap. I know some of you can't start for a week or so, and that's okay.

Looks good.

Yes this is fine, along with your choice of heritage. You might want to purchase starting equipment.

I'm glad you like it!

Lol, thanks. This ship was the actual ship of the character Sarrius Talelore, now Sarrius Brocitas, played by the Innmate Fix-It-Joe. One of my tabletop players in a game a few years back. This is exactly what I mean when I say that this game world is player driven.

Answers to Nomad D2's questions.

Some things the characters would know, some we might not.

1. It looks like you attempted to insert a picture of the ship in the game thread. I, for one, can not see it. Should I be able to do so?

Its a link to the picture. As far as I understand, they don't like directly inserting images into the threads. You can copy and paste it into a web browser and it should show up.

2. Would it be possible to get a map? I don't need tons of detail, just a vague idea of where the heck Doogan was, is and might be going?

I would be happy to provide a map. I will draw a rudimentary one, marking everyone's original homes, but what I'd really like to do is get some pics of the giant map of pellios on my wall at home.

3. From your history of Pellios - were the Dunar you mentioned human?

They were elves, actually. Precursors to the modern elves. They stood about 6'5" and weighed around 200-210. They were big, strong and very well versed in magic. Try to imagine the Roman Empire with pointy ears and the abilities of Gandalf. The Witch-Caesars were capable of casting spells that cannot be reproduced in the modern era.

4. Who is at war with who? It seems that the "enemy" is Nixmir. A few comments and our destination seems to indicate that the Western and Eastern Kingdoms are alled? But Devlinsgrimm had fought a war vs. Brocitania (the East?) And Tallfellowpines is fighting Brocitania? But King Solomon of the West seemed to not want Brocitania to expand. I think. Maybe. Can you clarify any of this?

Ok, this is a bit confusing, but I'll try to put it into clarity.

Eleven years ago, the country of Devlinsgrimm was the center of the world. The capital, Griffon's Mane, was the most powerful city in the known world. Western Kingdom, Eastern Kingdom and Duncan were vassal nations to Devlinsgrimm.

A document surfaced that questioned the king's claim to that throne and placed the heir with a noble line called Brocian... cousins of the current vassals of Western and Eastern kingdom.

The king had the whole line executed, but one escaped. Princess Kaiera Brocian. She fled with the help of Solomon Vasgar, grandson of a very famous general of a war some twenty years before that.

They fled to Western Kingdom, which lies to the south of Devlinsgrimm, on the west end of the Myrdell River. Very big citystate.

The army of Griffon's Mane, complete with Griffon Riders, chased them down there and almost completely destroyed the city of the Western Kingdom. Solomon and Princess Brocian were exiled to the east.

Eastern Kingdom, who was so far east that they were basically immune to attack, uised this as an opportunity to declare independence. The vassal became Queen Brocitas. She took her husband, the Grand Admiral of the Myrdell, Sarrius Talelore. He is the king you are soon to meet.

Nine years ago, Solomon and Kaiera returned to Western Kingdom and liberated it. Solomon was named sovereign ruler and the ranks of their army swelled. With the combined might of Solomon's army, Sarrius's fleet (and hippogriff riders from EK) they lay siege to the city of Griffon's Mane, and killed the king. Turns out the king was some kind of ancient wizard with ridiculous amounts of power. Eastern Kingdom claimed Devlinsgrimm but to avoid conflict named Solomon the Lord Protector.

Eight years ago, as the rest of the world paused from all the fighting to consolidate power and recuperate, Nixmir City, ruled by the High Necromancer Vardon Nixmir, took this opportunity to attack Duncan, and damn near crushed it to death. Duncan was a honeycomb of caves and dungeons, literally hollowed out from hte underside. With a judicious application of some kind of explosive material coupled with the use of several unknown towers with the ability to cast spells for miles, he pretty must destroyed Duncan and animated its dead in the same action. Sixty percent of its population was delivered to undeath in this fashion on the first night.

Solomon declared war on Nixmir and swore to stop at nothing until the evil black tower was no more. It took five years to reclaim Duncan. It has taken up to this night to reach within striking distance of Nixmir City. As of right now, in the start of winter, his army is camped within marching distance of the city, wintering in the Whispering Widow Woods.

Tallfellow pines is a different story. The homeland of the halflings has been attacked by troops of the Eastern Kingdom after King Sarrius rather as an aside declared the Eldritch sea to be merely an extension of the banks of the Myrdell, and thus claims sovereignty over it as Grand Admiral of the Myrdell. Apparently, some of his army has taken independent action in his name and attempted to subjugate the halflings, who in turn gained protection from the Scholars, the priests of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom: Ylander.

I think that answers most of the question?

5. Where and what is Sanctuary? Is it a primarily gnomish place since Doogan is a gnome? If Doogan is an emesary to these Kings/Queens, whatever, what is Sanctuary's relationship with the two kingdoms?

Sanctuary is a gnomish mountain haven far to the east. It is a wonder of technology and has many feats of engineering keeping it running. This is where the fabled steam knights are based. It is probably going to be the last bastion of hope for Agoria, which is right now under siege by the forces of the dark Lord Kharsis to the south.

6. Wait, the East is matriarchal? But it is run by a king (Brocitus)? Huh?

It is matriarchal, but there is a king. He doesn't run the country, he just generals the army and admirals the navy. Queen Brocitas does not tolerate his presence in the city for long.

Ok, I think I will work on my first post. Looking forward to the game.

Ok, I think I got it. Oh, wait . . .

Ok, that helps explain a lot. Without going into details, I am left with two more questions specific to Sanctuary and Doogan's home.

1. The Kingdom of Agoria - of which Sanctuary is a part appraently, what is it? Is it some sortof loose confederation far to the East? Your original post for Doogan implied that Sanctuary was sort of part of it, but sort of not.

2. I think you said Lord Kharsis was attacking Agoria from the South. Is there any known link between Kharsis and Nixmir or are these independent threats? Why is he attacking? He is attacking the home of the gnomes so Doogan wouldn't like him, but is he otherwise notably evil? Ought Doogan to be more concerned about this than about some battle far off to the West of his homeland? (Of course he was still sent on this mission by the leaders of Sanctuary.)

Thanks for the explanation, I suspect it will help make things a bit more clear when listening to the King.

Pictures of the big map would certainly be cool.

Couple questions from me too!

1) Ansgar's "hometown" is a volcano?!?! Suh-weet!

2) Ansgar was seen as a "threat" and he feels "sold".. or at least pushed out of his tribe? Can you elaborate a bit more on this, or is this you give me space to elaborate?

Thanks! I'm looking to post tomorrow night.

Ayrn

EDIT: I lied... and posted tonight...

If I'm going overboard please reign me in. I don't mean to be over doing it on the whole making up the Blue Tower thing.

What we bring to the party

One more point of organization/information. It will probably come out in the writing, but my life would be easier if it were organized inone neat spot. Who exactly wo we have in the party - once it is formed?

I think we have a rogue, a wizard, a druid, a barbarian and a bard. Plus I think there is one more that I can't identify from the first posting. Not a bad mix.

Could we get a listing of everyone:
player - character name - race and class

It would just make my life a bit easier.
