The Party

About how many characters were you planning in the party?
Looks like we have picked up Pit F(r)iend and maybe Steelight may play too. I'm trying to recruit two friends to join the Inn and this game.

Are we going to be patroling the roads or sent out as a scouting party to find the scource of the change?

You will start off having just finished conversing with the guard who gave you the mission/quest. I want a 5 man party, but I will fill in gaps myself with some NPC's I can generate. As I said, the first 'quest' is the Kobold Hall one from the Dm's guide (4th ed) so i can get used to the party's play style. Then it will progress from there, mostly to do with the players actions. Perhaps you want to find the source of this new corruption? Perhaps you just want to explore some dark dungeon. Either way, I'm going to have events running in the background (Fights and such) that will decide how the world progress's that the party will hear about by word of mouth unless they were actually there. These shall determine how the world goes and be sure you will be dragged into the story, no matter how you start the first few things.

Oops, I should just reread the stuff...

Well duh, if I'd just gone back and reread the recruitment I would have seen you wanted 5 players. As I've said before I may be OLD but I'm slow too.

If Steelight still wants in he seems like a veteran and could help the NEWBIE (me). Pit F(r)iend seems willing too. Well that's 3 so far and I'm still trying to bring in a couple my friends that are veteran table top player. We'll see.

So is our next step that you'll set up the game on the D&D rules forum and kick things off as the Guard giving us our orders. Something like the five of us were recruited not because more soldier were needed but because of the skills we are known to have. That we are a scouting party to find what has changed and why have these Kobolds have become so bold recently. That we are to go several leagues down the road to where the last incedent occured. Track down the Kobold and discover what we can and perhap bring an end to the raidings.

How's that for a wild guess?

More along the lines of, The guard knows of these attacks but the general public remain unaware. The guard wants to keep it on the down-low due to this being the first real sign that the peace if ending for a good few years and may cause widespread panic. Yes, its only Kobolds, but since when were Kobolds bold enough to start attacking guarded caravans so close to a town? He is worried mostly that this isn't going to be the only event like this and if so, wants to prevent it as quickly as possible.

Mission Improvable.....

Ah, black ops. No backup! If any member of your force is killed or captured the secretary will disavow any knowledge...

Pit F(r)iend was going to do a Dragonborn, that could be handy against Koblods. Have you heard from him?

Sheets

I am going to leave Recruitment for the First chapter open for another week (Until the 01/05/10) at on that day i will only accept people for the next chapter. The first one will be shorter than the rest as its more of an 'introductory' chapter. If I could have a copy of the sheets to my email that would be appreciated.

Excluding Odyson, I have yours saved.

Game Stat Play vs. Story

As I said I'm new to this play. In reading RedWyrm I notice that some call out the + this and 1d6 that. Is that going to the play or will we story eluding skill and feats just letting the DM handle the stats? Such as "Nocking two arrows Odyson sites the two Kobolds standing by the statue and letting them fly." "Drawing his sword and axe Odyson charged the Bugbear." Adding more detail but still story more than call stats.

For attacks, feats etc, describe them in detail, or how you wish, but put the name of the skill/feat/attack in brackets and i'll do the rolls and post results in a similar style.

The Game has started!, If I don't get sheets by my Monday update then I'm afraid you will have to linger for Chapter two, if your still interested.

Oops...

I guess I just didn't get that we were off and running. This being my first posting game. My friend had some issues getting on the site but now he's here and want in too. I'll talk to him and get him to get you his stat sheet so he can start. He used to play on bulletin board systems so he should be able jump right in. I'll work on a post over the weekend.

Graven Silverkin

Background:
Graven's birth was called an omen by the townspeople and a curse by his family. After Graven was born a brilliant light shot out of his left eye. Some say that when this happened the house Graven was in started filling with fire and smoke. Others say that a bolt of lightning from the sky shot straight down to the house and lit it aflame. Either way the house was burnt to the ground. Graven's uncle barely managed to escape with him as it happened. His parents were both killed in the fire.

Graven's uncle Belkas took him under his wing as an entertainer a juggler of sorts. But Graven had a thirst for knowledge and history that went unquenched. As he learned more and more of the old world the more he new that he had a flare for the arcane. He studied religiously everything of the arcane that he could. Belkas saw the boys thirst for this knowledge and he took Graven to an old adventuring friend who was a wizard.

Belkas's friend was no ordinary Human wizard, he was a Dragonborn wizard. This Wizard's name is Gragretor Deathserpent he took Graven under his wing and taught him everything he knew. And gave him knowledge of many of the ancient ways.

Appearance:

Graven looks older than his current 21 years. But he learned much in his short life and the knowledge weighs heavily on him.

Graven is a somewhat small (5'6") and slender (135lbs.) man. His hair is black as pitch, almost like black satin, and long. One strand of hair the notoriously falls into his face is white as snow. When he asked his uncle about this he stated that he has always had it. He has a short black beard well kept although a little longer under his chin. Graven's hair is usually pulled back in a knot behind his head fastened there by two thin ancient looking metallic rods. He has a tattoo around his left eye that looks like a pyramid of some type. He also wears a necklace with a symbol on it that looks like an eye with lines coming under it. His eyes are two different colors left is greyish, and the right is deep brown almost black.

Graven moves awkwardly and is often seen standing somewhat slouched. He usually wears the hood of his cloak up but has been known when studying to drop it down so he can read a little more easily. He usually has a magical hand floating about him grabbing books for him to read or holding it up so he can read while juggling (a skill he mastered while very young).

Even with his awkward nature Graven is very fastidious about his appearance. His clothes are always meticulously clean. Never has he been seen to have mud or dirt on his clothes.

He does like to make somewhat of a spectacle of himself while walking around town. Always seems to be putting on a show of sorts.

Personality:
Others see Graven as charming, but reserved. He seems to be self-assured, and open-minded when listening to others.

When things get tough he becomes adaptable, and pragmatic but people see him as being a little apathetic to their feelings.

He becomes steady, driven and somewhat impulsive in dire straits.

His favorite saying, "Time is my ally. When I am eighty, I will shape reality itself to my will. And you? You will barely be able to lift that sword."

It is so much like you....

Gee this is so much like you, especially the hair part.
I could have picked you out in an instant, lol.

Ok Mr. C I know I bumbled the start so I'll post my acceptance of the guard's mission. I'll try to write it tonight or Sunday so you can review it. It should get us in syn by the end of the week. I have not heard from Pit F(r)iend so I guess we'll start without him. Looks like Erevan, the Wizard and what ever NPCs you setup.
