Regarding Plot Points...

I noticed a difference between your explanation of the use of plot points to improve actions, and the book's. Your explanation says one would need to use 6 points to gain a d6 bonus. The book, however, states each point spend adds a 1 step die bonus (so spending 6 points would give you a d12 bonus).

my bad

You are correct. I was working off a summary sheet I pulled from the net and didn't double check the source. So if you are using plot point before the action, or to reduce damage.

1pp - d2
2pp - d4
3pp - d6
4pp - d8
5pp - d10
6pp - d12
7pp - d12 + d2
etc etc

After the fact PP use was also incorrect. It is 1 pp for one point changed (not half as I posted).

Sorry for the bad data, and thank you Blamm for pointing that out. It is a new rule system for me too, so please continue to keep me honest.

The ship's name

I have a graphic of teh ship's emblem I need to post. But I wanted to say a bit about the name of your ship.

It has been established that Wyatt won Rocinante in a card game. The following is a narrative of the former owner, explaining the name of the ship.

Why Rocinante?

Let me tell you about this man back on Earth that was. Went by the name of Don Quixote and he wasn’t a lord or mayor or a man of standing; he was just folk like you and me. Lived in a place called Las Mancha, which I think was in Texas back on Earth. Anyways, the man had a love of reading though, and took to books like a fish to water. So much so that them folks in his town started to think he had a leaky brainpan due to all that reading. You know how them backwater folks can get them strange notions in their heads.

Anyways, this Quixote fella, he took disagreement with the local uppity-ups. Real giants of industry that held the area in a tight grip on the account that they owned all the wind-mill power generators. Since they had the power and the money, they basically took control of the area and made their ways known to the folks. Not completely different from some places in the Verse now, come to think of it. But Don wouldn’t stand for it. He took up arms against that sea of troubles, even though he was just one man.

Now Don had a horse - wasn’t a pretty horse or a fast horse or even a young spirited one. It was an old nag workhorse, much like any of us have rode or used on the farms. But Don didn’t see the horse as old and useless; he saw the horse as a faithful steed upon which to ride out and undo the wrongs of the world. So he called her Rocinante, which was Spaniard for “not a work horse”.

Now I’d like to tell you that Mr. Quixote went out and did great things and became a big damn hero. But, sure as shooting, one man against giants doesn’t have much of a chance. However, no matter how often he went out and got beaten, bruised and generally messed up – Rocinante always got him home again. The folks tried to get Don to stop, being scared of them lords and their power, but he kept right on trying, and Rocinante keep bringing him back for mending.

Soon enough though, an old man can’t take the beatings anymore and he died a broken man. But once he was gone, the folks suddenly realized they had lost something. They felt it in their hearts and it made them mourn something awful. Then they rose up against those giants of industry and cast off their shackles. Wasn’t for Quixote though, they wouldn’t have say boo. Isn’t that the way though? Folks don’t know what they got until its plum gone.

So I named her Rocinante, cause she was once a work horse, but she ain’t to me. She’s much more than that, and if I love her and take care of her; she’ll always bring me home. No matter if I succeed in my ventures or I am running bruised and bleeding – she’ll get me home again. She’ll do the same for you too.

Where we stand

So far I have complete characters from Bromern, Eol and Blamm. I have a partial from Lyskhala and I need to help Vanadia finish off her character this weekend (if she ever comes home from Philly).

I will want to establish an story of how you all met and maybe a few adventures you have had together.

Now, is there any information that I haven't covered here that you need? The only thing I can think of is perhaps language, slang and swearing in chinese. There are many websites on that though. Here is one:

a list by episode

Well

I would like to let Blamm post his own character. But here is a peek:

Name: Asher Talhone
Race: Caucasian
Homeworld: Ezra
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Height: 5 ft 11 in
Weight: 178 lbs
Hair: Chin length, nearly straight, blonde
Eyes: Lively blue
Skin: Tanned
Features: Young, boyish features. Smooth-ish skin, clean shaven. Handsome.

Now eventually I will want to post summaries of all characters on the site becuase you will need to know each other well. The question is how much do you want revealed as we all have secrets.

More'n happy...

Folks, I'll be more'n happy t' work out the histories o' how the crew came t'gether with ya. Already got something breeding where Wyatt an' Sam's histories 're concerned.

Update on the Pretty: I started adding color night 'fore last. Got it set up this way: Rocinante's in the back hoverin'-like, prolly some good distance back 'cause she's kinda small-like. From left t' right I got Kora, then Asher, Wyatt, Sam, an' finally Willow.

Las' night I added the base color fer the whole of it an' nearly finished off Kora's skin tones. That's the good news. The bad'll be that I finally heard back from the publisher an' hafta get started on the interior illustrations fer this book. I'll try an' sneak in some time on the Crew, but it'll be slow goin' at best.

Roger's ship emblem 's nice an' I plan on addin' it t' the pretty when finished. Jus' a heads up.

Ai-aight.

Ni how
Well, I done did some more work on the pretty tonight after burnin' through ten sketches fer the publisher. I finished up Kora. Next I'll be startin' on Asher, then movin' 'cross the line-up. Right now, my neck 'urts an' my hand's killin' me, so I'm out fer the night. Adios.

Hard workin' Cap'n

Give your hand, eyes and mind a rest, Cap'n so's not to tax your strength too much. Payin' work comes first, that's a rule we can all understand.

My work travels look to be done until January, so I'm catching up on other things, including Willow's character sheet. Plus finishing Alacrity's sweater, a scarf to match Mighty Miss V's coat, and two wraps that represent my first ever paid commission for my knitting skills.

Ok, so that last one's paid work, too, but for now, it's fun work

Buyin' a share of the Rocinante

Being a non-fighting type, writing up my character sheet was fairly easy After buying the sort of things that a former companion and almost doctor would have (lots of clothes, cosmetics and medical supplies), I'll be putting 1,000 credits towards my share of the ship. Alacrity also agreed that the balance of my medical tuition went towards installing an operating theatre on the ship, so we have, for what it's worth, a sick bay.

Given the investment in the ship, I'd like to claim dibs on the second double cabin. Otherwise, every other spare storage space on ship will be overflowing with Willow's clothes

Posilutely...

...don't go cripplin' up yer digits, Cap; ya may need 'em fer trigger pullin' an' sech.

As far as bunks go, I reckon I'll lay claim to yonder single closest to the bridge... I ruttin' hate havin' to scoot halfway 'cross the boat inna middle of the night, get me?

Friends and Family plan

I will be giving everyone three friends or family or aquaintances in the Verse. This is to give you someone to turn to for info or help in the future. Now I do take requests so feel free to ask. I will assign them a place in the Verse so you will have to be near them to get help, but you can always send a wave.

Example:
Wyatt knows another ship's Captain by the name of Griffith. He's a man with a good name and he'll back you up even if there's no profit except friendship. He currently owes you money (TBD), but you know he'll be good for it the next time your paths cross. Things have a way of going smoothly for Griffith, and he carries torch for the fine Miss Willow.
Location: Dragonfly Class transport - The Royale. Usually in Outer planets territory
