Your Welcome

Ok I have decided in the interest of fairness to delay tommorrow's post till next Sunday to give you all as a group more time to figure out your spells and just how you plan to go up the stairs to the next LvL. This is a serious issue as the game, as it is now, could very well end up those stairs with the complete death of the party.
If that happens I'll do a restart somewhere further along in the events of the war that is now raging on Trilogies main land mass. So choose your strategy well.

A little more info...
The stairs go up two stories and as far as you can see, there is no door at the top.
There are no light sources above you
Finally you think you hear movement but are not sure of what or how many.

WE have a little more time, so really, if others are not going to step up to be support heal, then I'll have to. And when the party gets wiped out, we can all say "wow, that wold have been a good idea to have more people doing that..."

healing

Not only do we need to look at healing spells but also those that offer protection or bonuses to the party. Remember it is Althena who is the most important party member so keeping her alive is vital. Not that any member is expendible but...

Good time to look at our carried items as well.

Alasdair has 4 extra healing potions; perhaps Althena should be given one.

Cor has the staff of healing so that gives s a bit of extra healig as well. He also carries one extra healing potion.

Connal has an extra healing potion. His holy avenger also provides protection from eevil magic 10' diameter so if we keep close it will protect many of us.

Cynill has a one dose and a full potion of extra healing.

Hailia has her onyx dog, a chain lightning scrolland a one dose and 2 full potions of extra healing

Maggot has a potion of extra healing

Rayne has a potion of extra healing

Sirene has 4 potions of extra healing I would suggest she change wall of thorns spells to another "Heal"

Kenji has no healing potions; perhaps Sirene would give him one

Ulthok has an obsidion panther as well as 3 potions of extra healing, 2 levitations, 2 flying, and one of master thievery

I know most of us like to keep our potions and scrolls "in case things get bad". Well this is the time we have been saving them for. No good comes from having magic stuff if we are dead. :-)

Now lets go kick monster butt. Game On!

Gear up............

Now that what I was talking about, good cross research. I saw Ulthoks spells as those that could distract and drain. The mirror image would confuse and the vampiric touch would drain along with the shadow and summons monsters for addition attacker for distraction. I hadn't thought of his statue as another attacking distracter. I was leaving out my Fly spell because he had Fly potions. The D-door let him move and get better position. I wasn't sure about the acid arrows, magic weapons weren't working well and they might be a waist of spells.

Protection spells like Protection from Evil laid on Althena or others give them advantages.

Seeing Ulthok just got over thirty new spells I have to read up on them and change my mix. If any of you know good uses of his new spells, by all means point it out to me.

Sounds like we are 10 vs. 10, but hopefully it won't be all 10 at once. A 1 on 1 won't be pretty. Toe to toe ain't as much fun as "Back Stab".

As of November 1, my appearance on the sight will be drastically cut, due to my annual participation in NaNoWriMo. I'll still be playing, but you probably won't see me taking part in these strategy sessions much.

Ulthok's Temple Spells............

Ok, here's my guess as to the combination of old and new spells. If no one objects before Tann grabs it then I'll live with it.

I hope I've picked ones that can help others of the party and will make them more effective.



Lvl 1: Burning Hands / Chill Touch / Detect Magic x2 / Read Magic x2/ Enlarge/ Change Self

Lvl 2: Mirror Image x2 / Rope Trick x2 / Spectral Hand x2/ Knock x2

Lvl 3: Dispel Magic x3 / Non detection x2 / Invisibility 10’Radius / Lighting Bolt / Vampiric Touch

Lvl 4: Dimension Door / Wizard Eye / Rary's Mnemonic Enhancer /

Lvl 5: Monster Summoning 3/ Summon Shadow / Teleport.

2 level Barkskin x5 Flame blade
3 level Disspell Magic, Prayer, Remove Curse x2
4 level Neutralize Poison, Cure Serious Wounds, Protection from Evil 10 radius.
5 level Flame Strike, Raise Dead.
Ranger Spells unchanged.

My thoughts...

First thing we have to do is consider all of our options. I believe the first option we have is to go back down the stairs, but I feel that might be a trap. The guardians may be an illusion of some kind. They could be undead, or could be as simple as dispel magic. We could just ignore them completely and start walking towards them spells ready and see if they become hostile if we ignore them.

I think perhaps the spell FIND THE PATH might be useful here, but I could also be wrong about that. We may not be able to use magic at all, as he mentioned they resembled the roaches from our previous battle. Some could be killed quite easily with magic, and the others nearly killed us because they repelled the magic.

Two things worry me, when we entered the place, he said nothing is as it seems. (or something along those lines) it makes me wonder if perhaps these creatures arent what they appear. Perhaps they feel as if they are nothing but magic, but in fact could hold no magic at all, they could be hostages transformed with a polymorph spell.

*eyes go wide* Wait a tick! How many of us are there in the group? Are there the same amount of guardians as there are members? If that`s the case I fear attacking the guardians. Althena is the one destined to hold the sword. If we remove her from the equation, that leaves 10 of us, and 10 guardians. What if each guardian is assigned to us, and only Althena can pass through the guardians unscathed? My biggest fear is that the guardians are an evil form of ourselves and if we attack them, we are in fact attacking ourselves.

Tann has done something like that before where we faced ourselves. Well Rayne and Kenji and one other who went through the mirrors had to face themselves.

His scenarios can be won but they are never easy. Being flexible and prepared for just about anything is what we need to be. I changed up my many spell from healing to buffs and other spells that be of help, including remove curse and that one it is reversible--that might help. I took disspell magic at two levels. Oh an he doesn't give you enough information to really get any idea of what will be going on.

What if we took out the light stand? That seemed to summons the creatures. A well placed "Lightning Bolt" should shatter it. Then a "Continual Light" would still light the room.

or
Someone could cast "Dispell Magic" and see if that helps.

Then Ulthok could cast Non Detection on Althena and she could pass safely, maybe.

Flirty, your Q&A is good enough to post in character for the party to consider.

I was considering posting Ulthok asking about using a lightening bolt to shatter the light.

We don't have a strategy yet and I'm short on ideas.
