Sneaky..........
Well Valene will need to sneaky around on up coming rounds.
The weight limits on the teleport makes it difficult. Besides we need her crossbow in the attack to weaken the beholder. Ulthok would like to flank and sneak attack with a backstab too, but.......
Now if Valene were invisible...... No she can't have Ulthok's ring!
Maybe Ulthok can make her one if she stays around.

Yeah
Hopefully Tann can find her a player long term. I'll stop posting for her after this coming combat I suspect.
Backstab I think just requires a thief to be behind her/his victim and for the victim to be unaware. So if we catch the beholder by surprise with the teleport it could work out. Bit rusty on the rules, though, since it's been a long time since I played an AD&D thief.

More..........
Ok, I've tried to help set things up. If the rest seem to agree then I can post Ulthok's teleport. He and Weaver will recon to the top of the hill to agree on the locations to appear. They will then return and gather the members they are taking in to the fry.
We want to sure that the warriors appear only after the arrows hit their target so they don't get hit by them by mistake.

backstab
Very hard to get behind a beholder since it has so many eyes. Just keep that in mind.

Just looked it up...
Turns out it's impossible to backstab a beholder. It can only be done on something with a humanoid shape (and beholders, unfortunately, don't have that).
Still we should catch them by surprise.

Umm...
Only question I can think of was over the distance between us and the critters, and how well we'd be able to see and hear what was going on.

Questions from before......
We have the high ground for the attack and need to use it to our advantage as best we can. It say the Beholder floated into view, where did it come from if it was out view at first?
Is there tree cover along the sides of the raod and how far and how thick?
If we are traveling Southeast then the wargs would be to the left of the wagons (east). Is the beholder on the same side?
Again, what the cover to each side of the road?

How far away is that Orc going after Baby how far away is the Beholder from where Rayne is now. I seem to be screwing up my distances lately. The distance is not 1300 yards, I was thinking feet perhaps, but in truth the distance from hill to the first wagon is roughly 250 yards. 400 yards total from where you heard the first scream carried on the wind. As Rayne and Weaver are on higher ground it’s easy to see that far.
We have the high ground for the attack and need to use it to our advantage as best we can. It say the Beholder floated into view, where did it come from if it was out view at first? All you know is from somewhere behind the wagons. Think of the wagons of the old west and their high riding wheels and white and tan canopies. Easy not too see a Beholder behind them.

Very little tree cover as there are only a few individual trees. Think a grassy flat plain with a few low hills.
If we are traveling Southeast then the Wargs would be to the left of the wagons (east). Is the beholder on the same side? The Beholder and large Orc are to the right side of the second wagon (West) while the Wargs are a little behind and to the left (East) side of the 4th wagon and about 15 yards (Straight East) from there.
The other Orcs are intermingled throughout the wagons gathering loot.

Posts?
Are we on delayed posts for the Olympics or are we just missing folks?
I was hoping to hear from Kyle in the Q&A so we can know where to appear.
I would need to post first so the Bri, Gina and Tann can post to the gathering, teleporting and appearing. The will need to fire as soon as we appear.
----------------------
I would think keeper would like to coordinate the fighters attack here in Q&A and then in the post. Unless they are going to rush the Beholder as soon as they appear.

kill it
The plan for the ground punders is pretty simple; kill the beholder as quick as possible then take care of any remaining orcs at our lesuire.

Plan
Sorry for being silent for so long, but I'll be posting today.
As for the plan, teleporting is a good way to get us closer as long as it's not too close. I'd hate to see any of us being hit by the Death Ray. To me our best option is to use long range attacks as much as possible. Taking out the central eye might not be a bad idea, but naturally that needs to be done with weapons as the anti-magic ray will cancel all spells.
Ayreon too has a longbow available (thanks to your party pool) and would rather use it before charging in headlessly. Perhaps un-paladinlike, but still the best option I think.

Ugh...
I do wish Bri hadn't posted as she did for Rayne. I did carefully think out Sirene's actions (which have been ruined) and the teleport plan has been completely spoiled too. It's turned what could have been an easy-ish fight into a very difficult one.
I think the only thing to do is to adhere to Raven's suggestion and try and hit the beholder from range. Of course, the human shield makes that very difficult too. Sirene can hit the beholder with Magic Missiles without risking the humans, but she's down to 10d4+2 damage with that (so 30-60 damage with an average of 40).
I'm a little tempted to go with my original plan of a lightning bolt, simply because it has a chance to kill the critter outright. Unfortunately, Sirene is too much of a goody-two-shoes to accept the collateral damage. Sucks to be good. :-/
