Kay-o...

...was wondering about the family thing, myself.

Also, I wasn't 100% sure whether or not sunow's character would be starting with us in the basement at all so no offense intended in omitting the guy from Murph's first posts.

action points

I am using the optional "action points" rules for D20 modern.

Basically, You each have eleven points that you can spend to help yourself in some manner. You will gain more (6 or so) if you live to see another character level.

Here are the uses:

Once per round, you can choose to use a point, and it will add 1d6 to any d20 roll (attack roll, skill check, etc).

Certain abilities that you may have require the use of an action point to activate them (I will let you know if this applies to you).

You may use them to emulate a feat that you do not currently have (say, blind fighting). This lasts for one round.

You may grant yourself one extra attack in a given round.

You may drastically boost your defense for one round using a point.

Let me know if you have questions.

Weaponry

A couple things on weaponry especially blunt melee weapons. are we going to be rolling damage on them or is it if we hit we kill im hoping its the first allows the game to be more difficult but hey each GM has their own style.

Also i hope no one minds at all since my guy was a carpenter i had him end up just bringing his tool belt with him so hes basically got hammer and nails this will help if we need to board up at a location again FYI but i wanted to make sure the GM didnt mind me having a personal weapon on me from the very start.

well

As the GM, I will handle all attack, damage, skill, saving throw, etc. rolls. You post your character's intentions, and I'll handle the mechanics of it.

I don't mind the hammer and nails, though it seems odd to have worn a tool belt to a bar. Perhaps your guy was there to fix something? That would work. As far it goes as a weapon, I don't see a hammer being any better than an improvised club (two by four, etc), so I have no issue. Had you pulled out an SMG, we'd have had a problem.

I'm not going to give away much yet - you'll have to learn how things work as we play - but I will state that, at any time, you may attempt a headshot in combat. A successful headshot (at least, one with a firearm) will result in an insta-kill of any zombie. A normal hit, on the other hand, will have to result in enough overall damage to take them down. However, do note that headshots are significantly harder to achieve than are regular hits in combat... something to keep in mind.

SMG

You know i hear that carpenters work with SMGs' on a constant basis jk.

one other thing do you have a set game end point for it by chance or will it just be survive as long as you possibly can?

well

As of right now, there is not set end point. A LOT of this game is totally up to you guys. Do you want to look for food first? Medicine?

Will you try to drive out of the city? Find a boat? Use the train tracks? Find an airplane?

How much of an effort will those of you with family members make to find those family (provided that they are even alive)?

Are you trying to leave the city at all, or will you try to develop some sort of stronghold?

I dunno. Up to you guys.

I know...

...it's probably rather darkish in the basement and all but it's Murph and Amber that are "bickering" and such, guys... Emily's the sickly college student...

I know... I'm a nit-picker... *pickpickpick*

Hmmm...

...I dunno... I don't think Murph's keen on "leaving a man behind" if you know what I mean.

Right now, he's trying to think of the safest place to go if/when they get out of the bar... somewhere defensible, decently supplied, and all that jazz ... then, like he said in post, his only goals thereafter are to see to it that Emily gets well and Amber gets to see her kid... beyond that...*shrug*... it's the end of the world... whaddya do?

okay

Guys, I hate to be a drag, but please note that I'm a teensy bit concerned at where we went over the past few posts.

Please remember our posting requirements for the game: 2-3 short paragraphs per post. You don't have to write a novella like Eol or Merideth, but you do need to do more than one sentence or two.

I do not care for "chat like" games, which is what this one is develving into. Have your character say their piece, describe what they are thinking, etc. If there's not enough to hit 2-3 paragraphs, either work on your post some more, or wait. If you are wanting to RP a conversation with another character, get in touch with that player (via chat, PM, email, whatever) and figure out who's writing what.

Do not use the forum to post 1-2 sentences back and forth. I don't want to see ten new posts in an evening, with nine of them being from two players talking back and forth.

Thanks!

Another Novella

Sorry... and hope I didn't step on anyone's toes... tried to get us all to the same point though.
