It's okay

As excited as I'm sure we all are about the game, RL has to take priority. We understand.

gather info

so i take it that all the scattered pieces didn't find anything out before they mashed back together when meeting the mayor.

Did Zau find anything interesting using his detect magic ability?

yeah, game post!

and none of us died!

I'm not sure where to go with this game post so I'll let someone more official looking, acting, etc. handle things.

information?

Yeah, I was hoping someone in the group had been able to gather information during the search for the sheriff. Since we didn't really get more information then what we already knew, I'd say we need to have the sheriff help arrange boarding for us at the Inn in town. We are likely to get (more) information there and maybe it will give more time for people in the party to try gathering more info before night. (I'm assuming it's about mid-day now when we are talking to the sheriff, right??).

I'm assuming with our current group some type of ambush could be set up over the night to catch any thieves that try to strike at the new comings for untapped wealth. What is everyone else's thoughts on the matter. Do we try that or do we sleep the night away and head randomly into the forest looking for the forest bandits' hideout? I think it's a matter of do we try to ambush them or let them ambush us... I guess if we go in looking for the ambush then we'd be probably as prepared as if we try to ambush them...

Sorry, not sure what else to do at this point or maybe I'm getting too far ahead of the game here.

My suggestion

Rath'Sharr slept for most of the ride to this town, so allow him to watch over the group tonight. After all, they say night time is the time of the drow. Of course we would wan't locked doors and such as well. I'm sure they know we are here. I expect they will spend a day or two taking measure of us before they strike. Our advantage at the moment is that they don't quite know what they are up against.

Until nightfall, I agree that the sheriff should help set us up (but being a drow I would always be prepared for a double-cross, in case he is paid off bythe thieves or some such) and that we should go about our owninformation gathering. Then we can convene at night fall and swap info. Rath will catch up with the group in rooms before you bed down for the night to catch up on what has been discovered and share any significant observations he has had.

How does that sound?

Just a note:
You all know that Rath tends to stayout of sight until he is needed, which currently makes him a very effective weapon (assuming they haven't discovered me as of yet).

plans

Sounds like a good plan for later, but i was wondering if anyone was going to try prying anything out of the mayor and sheriff.

Also, I was wondering if this town had sewer access, a river or creek that went through it, or if it had an aqua-duct that the thieves could possibly be using since no one has seen them come or go.Or maybe they flew in. or they're using invisibility.

Are there any towns quarreling with this one that could be sending the thieves to do their dirty work for them?

How many men does the sheriff have and are they going to help us? Has the mayor or his family and friends been robbed?

There's more questions but I can't think of them right now. I'd have Zau ask but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't get taken seriously or wouldn't get a favorable answer because of his appearance.

Zau's apperance

To see what I'm talking about check this out.

I'm the first picture drawn.

Can somebody please get the official stuff rolling. I'll wait a few days and if nothing by then I guess I'll have to have Zau do some of the party representation stuff.

Khetarin

I'm discovering that Khetarin is kind of an asshole to non-guild members. I think he's become used to the high level of proficiency he encounters all the time back at the Citadel. Even the new recruits, while painfully under-trained compared to full fledged members are still, at least in Khetarin's estimation, miles ahead of the average lawman or criminal out in the world and light-years ahead of the average civilian.

Depending on how Sheriff & co. answer his questions, Khetarin will probably suggest that the group take some time to get a feel for the city and look for likely places to hop the walls. Shield, there are city walls, right? Also to look for any buildings near the walls that could have a basement and a tunnel under the walls. No reason yet this isn't partially an inside job. And I 2nd Drago's questions about "I was wondering if this town had sewer access, a river or creek that went through it, or if it had an aqua-duct that the thieves could possibly be using since no one has seen them come or go."

Khetarin won't believe they're using high powered magic like invisibility, until there's more proof that the thieves are good and it's not just a useless sheriff.

If there's time before nightfall and after giving the town the once-over, maybe we should scout the nearest portions of the woods. Shield, how big is the town? Thorpe, hamlet, metropolis?

another way into town

maybe there are caves nearby too. even if the town doesn't have city walls a cave could be connected to a basement such as in a church or other bigger building in town. I guess it could be a smaller cave entrance/exit and be in a regular basement or even connected to someone's well too.

Is the town completely surrounded by woods or are their any cliffs or hills nearby?

Or old ruins that could contain some kinda magical portal or gate?

brain storm

My thoughts were to use our groups ability to detect magic on anything left behind by the thieves. It seems rather sloppy of high quality thieves to leave behind something so oblivious, maybe some enchantment was put on them to hide tracks, scents. maybe it was left behind as a trap or possibly a non related person *shrug*

Besides that any mages in town are supporting them or they have some political pull a corrupt official being blackmailed into turning the other cheek maybe?

other possibilities

Things were found in the forest, no tracks, and they couldn't be tracked with scent. Sounds like a druid with trackless step ( level 3 class skill ) and or pass without a trace ( level 1 druid and ranger spell ) . Or it could be a ranger whenever they get their first level of spells.

Would anyone that's talking to the sherrif know anything about these things? I have knowledge arcane and I'm sure others do too. I was thinking we could figure out if that spell was being used with a knowledge arcana check with the info that we have received thus far.

A thought

If the town is as small as the sheriff's comments seem to reflect (given we haven't had any official answer) I would question whether there is a mage in the city at all. it wouldn't be uncommon for a hamlet or even a small town to now have a known wizard in it.

And a lot of these questions should be directed at the sheriff himself. Particlaurly about the cliffs/caves and such. These are very real possibilities, though it is equally possible that if they do exist the local authorities have made at least some attempt to look into them.

Sorry folks

I hadn't even realized the QA had gotten away from me like it has. No walls, the town is too small for such things. No one has noticed any mages, and most of the common folk avoided you during any attempts to gather information, some even thinking that some of you may in fact even be the thieves they are dealing with now. I'll try to get a reply from the sherriff posted when I find a free moment, but work has taken up a lot of my free time.

I roll a search check

I think we should do some sleuthing of our own. Just walk around in the woods for a bit and see if anything turns up. Also it'll let the common-folk calm down a bit after our "Hey we're here and you're all guilty" arrival.

Sounds like a plan...

However, I'd like to wait just a bit and see if anyone else has anything to add, any other plans to deliberate, or any other questions for the authorities.

invisible prankster

i think there is a possibility that we are dealing with a pixie/s. The items were all stolen one at a time if i read all the post right.if thieves were looking for something but wasn't sure what it was wouldn't they grab a bunch of stuff and then keep it to hawk it if it had any value at all.
i'm not sure if any of our characters would figure this out though since none of us are rangers or have knowledge nature.
